Netflix did briefly appear in Apple’s TV app on February 14, 2025, but it was not an official launch. Some Apple TV users were prompted to connect Netflix, after which selected Netflix titles appeared in Watchlist, Continue Watching, and search results. Apple later confirmed that the integration had been rolled out by mistake and removed it.
What Apple TV users saw
For a limited number of users, opening the Apple TV app produced a prompt to connect a Netflix account. Once connected, some Netflix programs appeared alongside content from services that officially support Apple’s connected-app features.
The reported integration could:
- Place some Netflix Originals in the Apple TV app’s Watchlist.
- Show unfinished Netflix programs in Continue Watching.
- Return Netflix titles in Search.
- Open the Netflix app when a viewer selected a program.
That last point is important: Netflix videos did not play natively inside Apple’s TV app. Apple’s app acted as a discovery and tracking layer before handing playback to Netflix. Reports from the time described examples including Stranger Things, Squid Game, Cobra Kai, and The Crown.

The behavior was inconsistent from the beginning. Netflix Originals appeared to be supported more reliably than licensed programs, although that does not mean every Original worked or that no licensed title appeared.

Some users found titles such as Suits in search but were not offered Netflix as a viewing destination. Other reports mentioned incomplete season listings, with only one season or a subset of seasons visible. Continue Watching entries also varied between accounts.
Those limitations, followed by the disappearance of the connection prompt and related buttons, were signs that this was not a polished public rollout.
Netflix did not officially join Apple’s TV app
Apple subsequently told The Verge, as reported by PCWorld, that the integration had been released accidentally and was rolled back. Reporting at the time also found no confirmed Netflix deal behind the appearance.

There has been no basis in the supplied evidence to promise that Netflix is coming back. The episode may show that a technical integration is possible or being considered, but it is not proof of an Apple-Netflix agreement or an upcoming launch.
Apple TV app, Apple TV hardware, and Apple TV+ are different
This story concerns the Apple TV app running on Apple TV hardware. It does not mean that Netflix became part of Apple TV+, Apple’s subscription service, or an Apple TV channel.
Apple’s own documentation explains that third-party subscriptions remain separate from an Apple TV subscription. The Apple TV app can combine discovery and playback handoffs for supported services, but each provider decides how much of its catalog, viewing history, and playback data it makes available. Can you enable the Netflix integration now?
Do not search for the old connection prompt as though it were a current setting. The temporary path involved searching for a Netflix title in the Apple TV app, opening its title page, and accepting a connection prompt if one appeared. Apple removed that prompt when it rolled back the accidental rollout.

For current access, use Netflix’s standalone Apple TV app:
- Open the App Store from the Apple TV Home Screen.
- Search for Netflix.
- Select Get or Install.
- Open Netflix and choose Sign In.
- Enter your Netflix credentials or follow the sign-in method shown on screen.
Netflix’s official Apple TV instructions continue to describe Netflix as a separately installed app.
Which Apple TV models support Netflix?
Netflix lists support for these Apple TV devices:
- Apple TV HD, fourth generation: up to 1080p HD.
- Apple TV 4K, first generation: 4K playback and Dolby Atmos support.
- Apple TV 4K, second generation: 4K playback and Dolby Atmos support.
- Apple TV 4K, third generation: 4K playback and Dolby Atmos support.
Netflix says Dolby Atmos requires tvOS 12 or later. Device, operating-system, account, and regional availability can affect the result.
Netflix 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision requirements
Installing Netflix is not enough to guarantee the highest picture quality. For Netflix 4K on compatible Apple TV hardware, Netflix lists these requirements:

- A 4K-compatible television.
- An HDMI connection supporting HDCP 2.2 or later.
- A Netflix plan that supports 4K.
- A sustained internet connection of at least 15 Mbps.
- Netflix playback quality set to High.
Dolby Vision or HDR10 also requires a compatible television and Apple TV setup, plus a Netflix plan that supports HDR. The title itself must be available in the relevant format. The brief Apple TV app integration did not change Netflix’s picture quality because playback still took place in Netflix’s own app.
If Netflix is missing from the App Store
Check the following before assuming the Apple TV is incompatible:
- Confirm that the device is an Apple TV HD or supported Apple TV 4K model.
- Update tvOS.
- Check that the Apple TV is signed in with the correct Apple Account.
- Review regional App Store availability.
- Check whether the app was deleted, hidden, or restricted.
If a Netflix title still appears in Apple TV search but does not offer Netflix as a viewing option, open the Netflix app directly. A search result alone does not prove that Netflix is currently connected to Apple’s TV app.

A note about Netflix billing through Apple
Netflix says billing through Apple is no longer available to most new or rejoining members. That means a new Netflix subscriber generally should not expect to sign up through Apple billing on the Apple TV. Existing Apple-billed customers may need to manage billing or cancellation through Apple. Details can change, so consult Netflix’s current billing guidance.
