Vudu is now branded Fandango at Home. If offline viewing is available for a particular movie and device, download it through the official Fandango at Home/Vudu mobile app, usually from My Library. The result is a protected, app-managed download—not an unrestricted MP4 that you can move to a USB drive, burn to DVD, or play in another program.
Download availability varies by title, rental or purchase status, device, operating system, account, app version, licensing restrictions, and country. Do not assume that every movie in your library can be downloaded.

What you need before downloading
- A Fandango at Home/Vudu account containing the purchase or rental.
- The official, current mobile app.
- A compatible device with enough free storage.
- A reliable Wi-Fi connection.
- A title for which the app displays a download option.
The service’s current help material lists mobile support for Android 5 or later, Apple iOS 17 or later, and Apple Vision Pro. These requirements establish app compatibility; they do not guarantee that every supported device can download every title. Fandango’s help material also says streaming is currently available only in the United States. Some devices stopped working with the Vudu app after December 10, 2024.

How to download a movie in the Fandango at Home app
Button names can change with app updates and may differ by title. Use this current-app workflow:
- Install or update the official Fandango at Home/Vudu app.
- Sign in to the account that purchased or rented the movie.
- Open My Library.
- Select the movie you want to watch offline.
- Look for a Download button, downward-arrow icon, or similar Download for offline viewing control.
- Choose a video quality if the app offers that choice.
- Keep the app open or allow the download to complete over Wi-Fi.
- Open the app’s downloads or library area and start playback from there.
- Test the movie while still connected to Wi-Fi before traveling.
The download remains tied to the app, account, device, and service’s digital-rights checks. It is not a normal video file that can be opened with a media player.
The official site currently provides access to areas such as My Library, Mobile App, and Manage Devices. However, older Vudu instructions and labels should not be treated as proof of the current interface. In particular, historical documentation referring to “Download and Watch Later” describes an older feature and not necessarily the present experience.

Can you download rented movies?
Do not assume that a rental can be downloaded. If the current app offers offline viewing for a rental, the download does not extend the rental period.
Under the service terms, rentals typically provide 30 days to begin watching and generally require completion within 24 hours after playback begins, unless the title’s displayed terms say otherwise. Check the rental window shown for the specific movie before downloading or starting it.

Can you download purchased movies?
A purchased movie has a stronger possibility of remaining available in your library, but “purchased” does not mean “owned as a DRM-free file.” The terms describe a purchase as a limited license to access and watch content through the service, subject to account access, compatible devices, studio or distributor restrictions, and continuing availability.

- Purchased: intended for repeated access through your account and supported service apps.
- Downloaded: a protected local copy for app-based playback, if the title and device permit it.
- Owned as a file: an unrestricted copy that Fandango at Home does not provide.
Why is there no download button?

Other possible causes include an account or device authorization limit, a title accessed through a connected service rather than directly through Fandango at Home, regional restrictions, or a rental whose terms do not allow the requested download. The retrieved Vudu terms describe up to eight linked devices, but that language may be dated; verify the current device policy rather than relying on the number unchanged.
What to do when a download fails
- Confirm that the movie appears in the correct account’s library.
- Update the Fandango at Home/Vudu app and the device operating system.
- Switch to stable Wi-Fi.
- Check available storage.
- Close and reopen the app.
- Sign out, then sign back in.
- Delete an incomplete download and retry.
- Restart the device.
- Play the movie online first to check whether the account has access.
- Try another supported mobile device.
- Contact Fandango at Home/Vudu support if the purchase is missing or the app reports an entitlement error.
Distinguish the problem carefully: a failed download usually points to network, storage, app, or device conditions; no download button usually indicates a title, platform, or licensing limitation; a missing purchase usually indicates an account, transaction, or catalog-availability issue.

Can you download a Vudu movie to a computer?
Do not assume that Windows or Mac downloading is currently supported. Streaming through a web browser is not the same as downloading, and a browser cache is not a usable movie file.
Older Vudu documentation described a “Download and Store” feature for selected hardware and legacy software. That document is historical and should not be used as a current universal guide. Use the current official app and account interface instead. Third-party “Vudu downloader” programs should not be recommended: they can create malware, account-security, copyright, and terms-of-service risks.

No—not as an ordinary transferable movie file. Fandango at Home/Vudu’s terms prohibit copying, transferring, reproducing, recording, or burning content to physical media, portable devices, computers, or other hardware except where expressly permitted. They also prohibit bypassing encryption or copy protection.

An app-managed download may be stored locally under the app’s control, but that is different from exporting a playable MP4. Do not use screen recorders, DRM-removal tools, or other methods intended to defeat those restrictions.
What if you own the DVD or Blu-ray?
Fandango at Home’s Disc to Digital service can convert selected eligible discs into a licensed digital entitlement. The current displayed prices are:
- Blu-ray to HDX: $2 plus tax
- DVD to SD: $2 plus tax
- DVD to HDX: $5 plus tax
Eligibility, location verification, title availability, annual conversion limits, prices, and other restrictions apply. Disc to Digital adds a digital library entitlement; it does not create an unprotected copy of the disc or guarantee that the resulting title can be downloaded on every device.

Can Movies Anywhere help?
Fandango at Home offers a Movies Anywhere connection. After linking accounts, eligible purchases may appear across participating digital retailers.
This is not a way to create a DRM-free file. Only eligible titles participate, and eligibility can depend on the studio, edition, and purchase route. Offline-download support may also differ between Fandango at Home and the other participating app. Check Movies Anywhere’s eligibility and terms before buying a second copy.

- Traveling with a phone or tablet: Check the official app for a download control and test playback before leaving Wi-Fi.
- Watching on a smart TV, Roku, console, or streaming stick during an outage: Streaming support does not prove that offline downloads are supported there. A supported mobile device may be the practical alternative.
- Needing a file for editing, archiving, or USB playback: Fandango at Home is not an appropriate source.
- Already owning a disc: Check Disc to Digital eligibility and the current conversion fee.
- Owning the movie through another retailer: Check Movies Anywhere eligibility before purchasing again.
- Outside the United States: The official help material currently describes Fandango streaming as US-only.
