Netflix’s January 2025 U.S. lineup combined returning franchises with new originals and international programming. The month’s main attractions included Missing You, American Primeval, Back in Action, The Night Agent season 2, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call and The Recruit season 2.
This is a retrospective guide to the U.S. schedule, not Netflix’s complete 2025 slate. Dates and catalogs varied by country, and some licensed titles could later be removed or delayed.

The January 2025 titles most worth knowing
- Best new mystery: Missing You, a Harlan Coben adaptation released January 1.
- Best new limited series: American Primeval, a six-episode Western starring Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin, released January 9.
- Best action film: Back in Action, starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, released January 17.
- Best returning series: The Night Agent season 2, released January 23.
- Best international highlight: Korean medical action-comedy The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, released January 24.
- Another major returning series: The Recruit season 2, released January 30.
- Best family and nature option: documentary series The Secret Life of Animals, released January 1.
- Most important weekly addition: WWE Raw, which began its U.S. Netflix run on January 6.

Netflix’s January 2025 release calendar
The table below focuses on the notable and verified U.S. additions identified in the January schedule. “Netflix original” describes a Netflix-branded or Netflix-distributed release; it does not mean that every title newly appearing in the catalog was produced by Netflix.

Returning series: The Night Agent and The Recruit
January’s schedule was particularly strong for viewers who prefer established Netflix series. The Night Agent returned with season 2 on January 23, while The Recruit followed with season 2 on January 30. Both should be treated as continuation releases: neither was a new series premiere, and neither should be confused with a weekly episode launch.
The month also included returning reality, documentary, children’s and international programs. Because Netflix often lists these by season, part or episode batch, the release label matters: a new batch is not automatically a new show, and a weekly program is not a conventional binge release.
January’s films and documentaries
Back in Action was the month’s most prominent mainstream film, pairing Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx in an action-comedy released January 17. For viewers looking for a different kind of feature, The Sand Castle represented Netflix’s international film programming and arrived January 24.
Documentary viewers had two clear January 1 options. The Secret Life of Animals offered a nature-focused series suitable for family viewing, while Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever took a more provocative documentary-film approach to longevity and healthspan.

International programming was a major part of the month
The January schedule was not simply a list of English-language U.S. productions. Korean programming was represented by The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, a medical action-comedy released January 24. The Breakthrough brought a Nordic crime-drama angle on January 7, while Belgian series High Tides season 2 was confirmed for January 31 in the Benelux announcement.
Netflix’s international catalog also included Spanish-language releases, European and Nordic mysteries, anime, children’s titles and programming from other markets. A date confirmed by Netflix in the Netherlands, Korea or another territory should not automatically be presented as a U.S. date. Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and other markets can receive different titles or schedules.
WWE Raw changed the shape of the schedule
WWE Raw began its weekly U.S. availability on Netflix on January 6, with subsequent Monday programming. That made it an important scheduling development, but not a normal full-season streaming drop. The U.S. arrangement also did not mean that every country received identical live or weekly access.

Licensed additions versus Netflix originals
Streaming guides often use “new on Netflix” as a broad catalog label. That phrase can include licensed films and series that Netflix did not produce. January 1, in particular, combined Netflix releases such as Missing You and The Secret Life of Animals with library additions.

For this schedule, Back in Action, The Sand Castle and Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever belong in the Netflix film or documentary-release category. Licensed additions should remain separately labeled rather than being described as Netflix originals without title-specific confirmation.
What left Netflix in January?
Departures were more difficult to state as one worldwide list because licensing windows and dates varied by market. One contemporaneous U.S. example reported for January 1 was Cats. That single example should not be treated as a complete January removals list.
For a current catalog check, search the title in Netflix U.S. rather than assuming that a January 2025 arrival—or departure—still applies in 2026. Netflix can also change dates, and local display times may differ from the standard U.S. release schedule.

How to interpret the January 2025 dates
- U.S. schedule: The dates above refer to the United States unless a regional qualification is stated.
- Regional availability: A title may be absent from Netflix in another country or arrive on a different date.
- Release format: Check whether a title arrived in full, in parts or weekly.
- Catalog status: “New on Netflix” and “Netflix original” are not interchangeable.
- Time zone: Netflix’s standard release timing is generally based on Pacific Time, so the local calendar date can differ near midnight.
- Retrospective context: January 2025 is past. A later article should say that these titles arrived during the month, not imply that Netflix is currently revealing the schedule.

Should you subscribe for this lineup?
That depends on how many of these titles you intended to watch. The strongest case for Netflix in January was concentrated among viewers interested in the returning seasons of The Night Agent and The Recruit, the Western American Primeval, the Cameron Diaz–Jamie Foxx film Back in Action or international programming such as The Trauma Code.
Access required a Netflix membership, subject to country, plan and title availability. Netflix’s current U.S. prices, plan restrictions and advertising terms can change, so check the official Netflix site and signup page for current information. If one January title was the only reason to subscribe, comparing the total catalog and cancellation terms may be more useful than judging the service by a single release.
For comparison, Max is aimed more at HBO and Warner Bros. programming, Prime Video combines included streaming with rentals, purchases and add-on channels, Disney+ is stronger for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and family viewing, and Paramount+ offers a different mix centered on Paramount, CBS and related franchises. None is a substitute for Netflix’s particular combination of international releases and Netflix-branded originals.
