YouTube Music’s “Pin to Speed dial” feature was introduced in December 2024, not 2026. It lets Android and iPhone users manually keep selected songs, music videos, albums, and playlists in the Speed dial grid near the top of the app’s Home tab.
This is a Home-screen shortcut feature—not a new playlist, Library category, or phone-level speed-dial function. Availability and behavior can vary by app version, account, platform, and rollout state.
What is YouTube Music Speed dial?
Speed dial is the grid near the top of YouTube Music’s Home feed. It traditionally surfaced music based on listening activity and recent relevance. Manual pinning gives users more control over which items appear there.

In the original rollout, the grid was shown as a 3×3 arrangement with a small pin icon on manually pinned items. Later app versions may use a different layout or icon style.

Speed dial does not reorganize your Library, change playlist order, or create a permanent shortcut outside YouTube Music. It simply provides faster access from the app’s Home tab.

Some newer YouTube Music experiences may also show Pin to Speed dial for generated radio stations. That appears to be a later or context-specific use rather than part of the original December 2024 announcement.
How to pin music to Speed dial
- Open the current YouTube Music app on an Android phone or iPhone.
- Find a song, music video, album, or playlist.
- Tap the item’s three-dot overflow menu. On some versions, you can also long-press the item.
- Select Pin to Speed dial.
- Return to the Home tab and find the Speed dial grid.
The option was also reported in the three-dot menu on the Now Playing screen. Menu placement and long-press behavior can vary slightly between Android and iOS versions.

How to unpin an item
- Open the pinned item’s three-dot menu, or long-press it where supported.
- Choose Unpin from Speed dial.
- Return to or refresh the Home tab if the grid does not update immediately.
Afterward, the menu should normally change back to Pin to Speed dial. If it does not, close and reopen the app and check again.
Android and iOS availability
The feature was reported rolling out on Android version 7.29 and iOS version 7.31 in December 2024. These are historical rollout markers, not current version requirements. Use the latest YouTube Music version offered through your device’s app store.
The original report said pinned items synchronized between Android and iOS. That should not be interpreted as a guarantee that Speed dial works identically on every YouTube client.

Is YouTube Music Premium required?
The available evidence does not establish a universal Premium requirement for Speed dial pinning. User reports have included both Premium and non-paid accounts, but community posts are not a definitive eligibility policy.
The safest conclusion is that availability may depend on the app, account, region, platform, or staged rollout. YouTube Music Premium may still be worthwhile for separate benefits such as ad-free listening, background playback, and downloads, but do not subscribe solely on the assumption that Premium is required for pinning.
Why Speed dial may not show everything
Manual pins are intended to remain available, but Speed dial is not a documented replacement for full Library organization. Users have reported seeing only some pinned items, losing the Speed dial section, or finding that automatic recommendations appear alongside manually pinned content.
These reports are anecdotal rather than confirmed Google-wide defects. The row may support horizontal scrolling on some interfaces, while other users have reported that scrolling or access to the complete pinned list was unavailable. There is also no reliable evidence of a supported drag-and-drop system for manually ordering pins.

Cross-device synchronization was reported for Android and iOS, but synchronization should not be assumed to be instant or universal across tablets and the web.

“Pin to Speed dial” is missing
- Update YouTube Music from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- Test a supported item such as a song, album, music video, or playlist.
- Check both the item’s overflow menu and the Now Playing overflow menu.
- Sign out and back in only if ordinary restart steps fail.
- Use YouTube Music’s in-app Help and feedback option to report the problem.
A missing command can mean that the account has not received the relevant interface, that the item type is unsupported, or that availability differs by region or server-side rollout.
The item is pinned but does not appear
- Refresh the Home tab.
- Close and reopen YouTube Music.
- Swipe horizontally across the Speed dial row.
- Open the item’s menu and confirm that it says Unpin from Speed dial.
- Check the same account on another Android or iOS device.
Reinstalling the app is not guaranteed to restore missing pins. Community reports describe cases where the Speed dial section or its contents remained inconsistent after routine troubleshooting.

Unpinning does not work
Confirm that the menu changes to Pin to Speed dial after unpinning, then restart the app and check another device using the same account. If the old state remains, report it through in-app feedback.

One community report described pin and unpin problems in version 9.16.51. That is an attributed user report, not confirmation of a current platform-wide bug. Users can also review the YouTube Music Community discussion.
Is Pin to Speed dial useful?
It is useful if you repeatedly return to a small set of songs, albums, videos, or playlists and want to avoid searching for them. It can also keep a favorite item visible even after your listening habits change.
It is less suitable if you need a complete Library-management system, artist shortcuts, podcast organization, manual ordering, or a shortcut that works outside YouTube Music. For those needs, playlists and the Library remain more appropriate tools.

Pin supported content through its three-dot menu, then use the Speed dial grid for quicker access. Treat the original Android 7.29 and iOS 7.31 numbers as historical, and expect availability or visibility to vary in current versions.
