The official website confirms a launch-day “Squirrel Cam,” but it does not independently verify that the reported stream happened or establish its production and animal-welfare details.
The story is an unusually literal expansion of the game’s premise, but the headline needs careful qualification. The strongest available evidence comes from one secondary report, while the official indexed material confirms only a squirrel-themed promotional camera.
Key takeaways
- A May 20, 2026 report says the developers promoted Squirrel With A Gun with real squirrels and miniature, non-functional gun replicas.
- The official game website confirms a launch-day “Squirrel Cam,” but its indexed material does not independently confirm real squirrels, gun props, or the reported 2026 production.
- The available evidence does not show that squirrels fired functional firearms or were trained to use weapons.
- Squirrel With A Gun is a commercial sandbox shooter and puzzle-platform game developed by Dee Dee Creations LLC and published by Maximum Entertainment.
- The game launched on Steam on August 29, 2024; Xbox Wire reported its Xbox Series X|S launch on October 15, 2024.
What does the report say about the Squirrel With A Gun livestream?
The report says that the developers behind Squirrel With A Gun streamed real squirrels interacting with tiny, non-functional gun replicas as an unusually literal extension of the game’s premise. Position Is Everything reported the claim on May 20, 2026, but no official developer post, publisher announcement, archived livestream page, or primary video description confirming the stronger claim was located.
That makes the headline a reported allegation rather than an independently verified fact. The available evidence supports saying that a secondary report described the stunt; it does not support saying that the developers publicly proved the event, that the animals fired guns, or that the production’s animal-welfare procedures have been verified.

What is the actual game Squirrel With A Gun?
Squirrel With A Gun is a commercial sandbox shooter and puzzle-platform game in which a squirrel moves through a suburban action setting. Firearms are part of the fictional gameplay: the squirrel uses their recoil for movement and traversal as well as for comic combat. Steam lists Dee Dee Creations LLC as the developer and Maximum Entertainment as the publisher, with a release date of August 29, 2024.
The official website describes the title as a squirrel-focused sandbox shooter and puzzle platformer and lists PC and console availability. Readers looking for the official Squirrel With A Gun game should use the developer’s site and the relevant platform listing rather than treating third-party merchandise pages as official sales channels.
| Element | What the evidence supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Game | A fictional sandbox shooter and puzzle-platform game | That real animals were used in gameplay or testing |
| Weapons | Firearms are fictional gameplay and traversal mechanics | That real squirrels handled or fired functional guns |
| Promotional concept | The official site references a launch-day “Squirrel Cam” | That the “Squirrel Cam” was the same event described in the 2026 report |
| Reported livestream | A secondary report describes real squirrels and non-functional gun replicas | Official confirmation of the event, its setup, or its welfare procedures |
Is the Squirrel Cam proof that the reported livestream happened?
No. The official website’s reference to “Rewatch the Launch Day Squirrel Cam!” confirms that the game used a squirrel-themed camera or promotional concept, but the indexed wording does not say that real squirrels appeared alongside gun replicas. The “Squirrel Cam” reference is therefore relevant context, not independent confirmation of the stronger 2026 claim.

- Made from high strength polymer

The distinction matters because promotional language can describe a themed camera, a gameplay broadcast, a mascot, or footage of real animals. Without an archived official stream or a direct statement from Dee Dee Creations or Maximum Entertainment, the two references should not be silently treated as the same production.

No evidence in the supplied reporting shows that the squirrels used functional firearms. The secondary report characterizes the objects as tiny, non-functional weapon replicas, so “real guns” would be inaccurate. The safest description is that the report alleged an interaction with miniature props designed to resemble guns.
The fictional game’s weapons should also be kept separate from the alleged real-world stunt. Xbox Wire’s October 15, 2024 coverage describes the game’s fictional weapons, quests, acorn collecting, neighborhood setting, and comic action; that coverage does not verify a later livestream with real animals.

What is known about animal handling and welfare?
The available report raises questions about how the squirrels and filming environment were managed, but it does not provide a verified production account or document a welfare violation. The evidence therefore supports asking whether appropriate handling and filming safeguards were used, not accusing the developers of putting animals in danger.
Several details remain unresolved:
- Whether Dee Dee Creations, Maximum Entertainment, or an official game account published or archived the reported 2026 stream.
- Whether the reported event was the same production as the official site’s launch-day “Squirrel Cam.”
- Who handled the animals and what conditions governed the filming.
- Whether every object described as a weapon was confirmed to be non-functional by an official production source.
How strong is the evidence for the headline?
The evidence is strong for the game’s identity and fictional premise but weaker for the central real-world claim. The following distinction captures what can responsibly be published from the located sources.
| Claim | Evidence level | Responsible wording |
|---|---|---|
| Squirrel With A Gun is a released commercial game | Well supported by official and platform sources | State directly |
| The game uses guns as fictional action and movement mechanics | Supported by Steam, the official site, and Xbox Wire | State directly and identify the weapons as fictional |
| The official site references a launch-day “Squirrel Cam” | Supported by the official site | State directly, without adding details absent from the site |
| A 2026 livestream showed real squirrels with miniature non-functional gun props | Reported by one secondary source | Attribute the claim and note the lack of independent corroboration |
| Squirrels fired real guns or were trained to use weapons | Unsupported and contradicted by the reported prop description | Do not claim |
| The production violated animal-welfare rules | Unsupported by the located evidence | Do not claim |
Where can readers find the game?
Readers can find the released game through the official website and platform listings, including Steam. The Steam listing identifies Squirrel with a Gun as the commercial PC title; availability, pricing, and platform options can change by region and date, so readers should check the current listing before buying.

The available research does not verify an official physical merchandise line or a useful Amazon product directly tied to this story. A third-party marketplace lists fan or seller-created designs, but that listing does not establish licensing by Dee Dee Creations or Maximum Entertainment. Generic squirrel toys, toy guns, webcams, microphones, and streaming accessories would not be direct substitutes for the game or evidence about the livestream.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should be verified next?
A definitive update would need a primary source from the developer, publisher, official game account, YouTube, Twitch, or a social-media archive. The most important checks are whether the reported stream exists in an archived form, whether the “Squirrel Cam” and the reported 2026 event are the same broadcast, and whether an official production description confirms the props and animal-handling procedures.
Until that evidence appears, the accurate conclusion is limited but still notable: a secondary report describes a promotional livestream that allegedly brought the fictional idea of Squirrel With A Gun into the real world with squirrels and non-functional gun props. The official material confirms the game’s squirrel-themed marketing, not every detail of the reported stunt.
