If you are asking what streaming service is Banana Fish on, Netflix is the best-supported answer for U.S. viewers as of August 13, 2026. The 2018 anime reportedly launched on Netflix in the United States on August 12 after leaving Prime Video, but country, episode, audio, and subtitle availability must be checked locally.
Older search results may still point to Amazon Prime Video because a U.S. JustWatch snapshot was checked before the reported service change. The sections below separate the current U.S. answer from historical listings and explain how to verify the version available to you.
Key takeaways
- Netflix is the best-supported current U.S. streaming service for Banana Fish as of August 13, 2026.

- An older U.S. JustWatch snapshot listed one season and 24 approximately 22-minute episodes on Prime Video, but Netflix’s current U.S. episode display should be checked before relying on that count.
- The anime is a 2018 adaptation of Akimi Yoshida’s manga, following Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura as they investigate the drug called Banana Fish.
What streaming service is Banana Fish on?
For viewers in the United States, the answer to “what streaming service is Banana Fish on?” is Netflix as of August 13, 2026. Reporting says the 2018 anime arrived on Netflix in the U.S. on August 12 after leaving Amazon Prime Video; availability, episode details, and language options can change by country and date.
You can watch Banana Fish on Netflix, but verify that the live Netflix page is localized to your country before subscribing or starting a plan. The retrieved official Netflix page is Japan-localized, so it confirms the title’s Netflix catalog presence but is not by itself proof of the current U.S. catalog metadata.

Did Banana Fish leave Prime Video?
Banana Fish appears to have left Prime Video in the United States when Netflix launched the title there on August 12, 2026. The timing matters because an older U.S. availability page can still produce a different answer.
JustWatch’s U.S. listing was last checked on June 22, 2026 and listed Banana Fish on Amazon Prime Video and Prime Video with Ads. That check predates the reported Netflix transition, so Prime Video is a historical answer rather than the best current U.S. answer on the evidence available for August 13, 2026.
| Service or format | What the research supports | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Current best-supported U.S. streaming service as of August 13, 2026 | Streaming the anime in the United States | Confirm the live local page, episode display, audio, and subtitles |
| Amazon Prime Video | Listed in a June 22, 2026 U.S. JustWatch snapshot | Historical listing before the reported move | Do not assume the older listing means the series is still available |
| Physical manga | VIZ lists the English-language manga, including Banana Fish, Vol. 1 | Reading the original source and owning a durable copy | The manga is not a streaming substitute |
| Blu-ray/DVD | The official anime site documents physical releases | Collecting or watching without relying on streaming rights | Current U.S. retail stock was not verified |
Is Banana Fish on Netflix in every country?
No. Netflix rights are country-specific, and the U.S. answer cannot safely be generalized worldwide. Current release reporting identifies the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France among the territories receiving the August 12, 2026 Netflix release. The exact catalog can still differ between those markets.
Search Netflix while signed in from the country where you intend to watch. Check the title page for the play button, season and episode list, audio languages, subtitle languages, and any maturity or profile restrictions. Netflix’s official catalog describes Banana Fish as a 2018 anime series and gives the premise: “A teenaged gang leader in New York City faces his abuser and rival gangs alongside a photojournalist from Japan as they investigate a deadly new drug.” See the 2026 Netflix release reporting and the official Netflix catalog page for the currently documented rollout and title information.

Does Netflix have the Banana Fish dub?
Release reporting describes Netflix’s 2026 arrival as including an exclusive new English dub, but the exact audio and subtitle tracks available in the United States were not exposed in the retrieved U.S.-localized results. Open the Netflix title page in the relevant country and use the audio and subtitles menu to confirm the options before watching.
Language availability can also depend on the viewer’s profile language, device, country, and download settings. A Japanese-localized Netflix page should not be treated as confirmation that the same audio or subtitle menu appears in the United States.
How many episodes of Banana Fish are there?
The older U.S. JustWatch snapshot showed one season and 24 episodes, with episodes running approximately 22 minutes. Because that listing was checked on June 22, 2026, before the reported Netflix move, confirm the current Netflix season and episode display in your territory rather than treating the old listing as current metadata.
The official anime story follows Ash Lynx, a teenage gang leader in New York, and Eiji Okumura, a Japanese photographer’s assistant. Ash hears the words “Banana Fish” from a dying man, and Ash and Eiji begin investigating the mystery together. The official BANANA FISH story page provides the anime’s story material.

What is Banana Fish about?
Banana Fish is the 2018 animated adaptation of Akimi Yoshida’s manga. The central mystery concerns a drug called Banana Fish, while the larger story brings Ash and Eiji into conflict with Ash’s abuser, rival gangs, and the forces surrounding the drug.
The anime is therefore an adaptation rather than the original version of the story. Viewers who want the source material can start with Banana Fish manga Vol. 1, VIZ Media’s official English-language edition. VIZ describes Ash with the line, “Nature made Ash Lynx beautiful; nurture made him a cold ruthless killer.” A physical volume is an ownership option for readers who do not want access to depend on changing streaming rights.
What should you check before watching?
- Confirm the country. Use the Netflix catalog for the country where you will watch; the reported U.S. availability does not establish availability elsewhere.
- Confirm the title is playable. A search result or catalog page is weaker evidence than a live title page showing the play button.
- Check the episode list. The historical U.S. listing showed 24 episodes in one season, but verify the current Netflix presentation.
- Open audio and subtitles. Confirm Japanese audio, English subtitles, and any English or French dub offered in your market rather than assuming that a reported dub is available to every profile.
- Decide whether you need ownership. Streaming access can change; the English manga or a verified physical-media edition is better for a permanent collection.
Can you buy Banana Fish instead of streaming it?
Yes. VIZ Media lists the English-language manga beginning with Banana Fish, Vol. 1 and links to additional volumes. The manga is the original source material, so buying it is useful for readers who want to own and read the story rather than use it as a substitute for the Netflix anime.
The official anime website also documents Blu-ray and DVD releases, while Shogakukan documents Japanese reprint box editions. Current U.S. retailer stock, language, shipping, and pricing were not verified in this research, so check an authorized retailer before assuming that a particular disc or Japanese box set is available in the United States.
