What matches and segments were announced before the broadcast?
WWE promoted John Cena’s return as the final televised confrontation before his WrestleMania 41 championship match with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. The announcement framed the appearance as a face-to-face encounter rather than a scheduled match. WWE’s preview of Cena’s return established the stakes.
The advertised match attractions included the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and a WWE Tag Team Championship defense by The Street Profits against Motor City Machine Guns. WWE noted that the teams had previously wrestled to a no contest, giving the title match an unresolved history. The official tag-title preview described the championship defense and the teams’ earlier inconclusive meeting.
A contemporary preview also listed Katana Chance, Kayden Carter and Zelina Vega against Piper Niven, Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green in a six-woman tag-team match. The available WWE results recap does not show that advertised match as completed, so it should be treated as a preview-card item that was changed or replaced—not as an aired result.
| Advertised item | What the preview said | What can be confirmed as aired |

Because the event is already complete, the following are retrospective preview-style picks based on the advertised stakes. They are not claims that these predictions were published before the show or that professional wrestling outcomes are unscripted competitive forecasts.

What were the WWE SmackDown results on April 18, 2025?
The main results were Carmelo Hayes winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, The Street Profits retaining the WWE Tag Team Championship by disqualification, and Zelina Vega defeating Chelsea Green in a non-title match. WWE’s official results recap lists the completed matches and major segments.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal: Carmelo Hayes won
Carmelo Hayes won the 2025 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. WWE identified Andrade, Shinsuke Nakamura and Rey Fenix as members of the final four, with Hayes eliminating Andrade to secure the victory.
The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is an over-the-top-rope elimination match. A wrestler is eliminated when another competitor throws that wrestler over the top rope and both feet touch the floor; the last wrestler remaining wins. WWE’s battle-royal preview explains the match format.

The Street Profits retained the WWE Tag Team Championship against Motor City Machine Guns, but the match did not end with a clean pinfall or submission. #DIY—Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa—interfered, attacked both teams and caused the disqualification. WWE’s result therefore supports “The Street Profits retained by disqualification,” not “The Street Profits won a clean title defense.”
#DIY leaving with the titles intensified the SmackDown tag-team championship situation without changing the champions. The disputed finish also preserved the competitive issue between The Street Profits and Motor City Machine Guns.

Cody Rhodes and John Cena: Cross Rhodes ended the confrontation
Cody Rhodes and John Cena’s face-to-face confrontation became the episode’s clearest final escalation before WrestleMania 41. After the two exchanged hostile remarks, Rhodes dropped Cena with a Cross Rhodes. WWE’s official episode recap records the physical ending, while the official full-segment video provides the complete televised exchange.
The segment did not replace their scheduled WrestleMania match. Instead, the confrontation raised the immediate personal stakes while leaving their Undisputed WWE Championship match for the following night.

What other WrestleMania 41 storylines were advanced?
The women’s WrestleMania title picture ended in a major brawl involving Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Bianca Belair, Naomi and Jade Cargill. Seth Rollins also delivered a “pipe bomb” promo aimed at both of his WrestleMania opponents, CM Punk and Roman Reigns. That description comes from WWE’s official highlight framing; it is not an independent characterization of the segment.
Why did the April 18 episode matter before WrestleMania 41?
WWE SmackDown on April 18, 2025, functioned as a final storyline checkpoint rather than a normal weekly reset. The show accomplished four practical objectives: it gave Cena and Rhodes one last televised confrontation, established Hayes as the battle-royal winner, kept The Street Profits as tag-team champions while adding #DIY to the dispute, and gave several WrestleMania programs a final physical or promotional escalation.
The distinction between the advertised card and the results is especially important. The six-woman match appeared in contemporary preview coverage but is not confirmed as completed by the available official results, while the tag-title match did air but ended through interference. A reliable recap should preserve both qualifications.
