Universal and Peacock describe Twisters as a standalone sequel rather than a remake. The film’s 2024 release date and connection to the 1996 movie are documented in Peacock’s release announcement, while its cast, classification, runtime, and audience reception are tracked by Rotten Tomatoes.
How much money did Twister make?
Twister is commonly described as a roughly $496 million worldwide hit, but $496 million is a rounded approximation rather than a single universally accepted database total.
| Source | Worldwide total | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Box Office Mojo | $494,580,615 | $241,830,615 domestic plus $252,750,000 international |
| The Numbers | $499,230,797 | A different worldwide total based on that database’s release accounting |
According to The Numbers’ 1996 worldwide box-office table, Twister ranked as the second-highest-grossing film released worldwide in 1996. Differences between box-office databases can result from release accounting and re-releases, so the most accurate editorial wording is that Twister made approximately $496 million worldwide.
Why is Twisters considered one of 2024’s most fun movies?
Twisters earns that “most fun” description through a straightforward combination of large-scale weather spectacle, likable performers, accessible action, and a story that does not require viewers to study the original film first. “Most fun” is an editorial judgment, not an official ranking, but the film’s audience response gives the characterization meaningful support.
Rotten Tomatoes lists the film at 75% from critics and 90% from verified audiences. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus highlights the tornado spectacle and Glen Powell’s charisma, while RogerEbert.com’s review of Twisters also emphasizes Powell’s screen presence within the film’s legacy-sequel format.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs approximately two hours and two minutes. Those details matter to viewers choosing a casual summer action movie: Twisters is a relatively brisk disaster adventure rather than a long, continuity-heavy franchise chapter.
What is Twisters about?
Twisters follows Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who is drawn back into field research in Oklahoma. Kate works to test a new tornado-tracking system, then crosses paths with Tyler Owens, a popular and confident storm chaser whose methods contrast with hers.
