JustWatch lets you search all your streaming platforms in one place by combining legal movie and TV-show listings from multiple providers. The service shows market-specific subscription, free, ad-supported, rental, and purchase options, then links you to the provider for playback; JustWatch itself usually does not host the video.
Key takeaways
- JustWatch is a cross-service search and discovery guide, not a streaming service that hosts every listed movie or show.
- JustWatch can show subscription, free, ad-supported, rental, purchase, DVD, and Blu-ray options, depending on the title and country.
- JustWatch results are market-specific and change as streaming rights, prices, and provider catalogs change.
- The free service includes search, filters, watchlists, new-release discovery, and provider links; JustWatch Pro is an optional paid digital subscription, not a bundle of video subscriptions.
- JustWatch’s app listing claims coverage of more than 4,500 streaming providers worldwide, while partner documentation gives separate, broader data-coverage figures that should not be treated as one consumer-catalog count.
What is JustWatch?
JustWatch is a streaming guide and cross-service search engine that helps you find where a movie, documentary, or TV show is legally available. Instead of opening Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV, and other services one at a time, you search the title in JustWatch and compare the offers returned for your selected country.
The service is a discovery and linking layer. JustWatch generally does not own or host the video being listed; a “Watch Now” result takes you to the relevant provider, where the provider’s account requirements, price, playback quality, subtitles, and regional rights apply. JustWatch’s U.S. streaming guide provides the consumer search interface.
How does JustWatch let you search all your streaming platforms in one place?
JustWatch lets you search all your streaming platforms in one place by combining provider catalogs into a single title-search and filtering interface. You can search for a specific film or show, browse a genre, or narrow results to services and viewing methods that suit you.

What can you do with JustWatch besides search?
JustWatch combines title search with discovery and organization tools that are useful when you know what you want to watch and when you do not.
Save a watchlist across devices
You can save movies and shows to a watchlist and synchronize the list across devices after signing in. That makes the watchlist useful for keeping track of documentaries discovered on a phone, browser, or television app. The account and synchronization behavior can depend on the platform and account state.
Find newly added movies and episodes
The Timeline and JustWatch’s “new” pages surface recently added movies, shows, and episodes for selected providers. The JustWatch new-release pages are particularly useful for checking what has recently appeared in a chosen market, although “new” does not mean the title is necessarily included in a subscription you already pay for.
Track rental and purchase price drops
JustWatch promotes daily updates for rental and purchase price reductions through its Price Drops feature. Price-drop information is useful when a documentary is unavailable through a subscription service but can be rented or bought digitally. The displayed price belongs to the external provider and can change.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use viewing links and supported TV features
JustWatch provides provider links and, where supported, a “Play on TV” function that can help open a title on a television. JustWatch does not guarantee one-click playback or casting for every title, provider, country, account, or device. JustWatch promotes web, mobile, and Smart TV experiences on its apps page, while exact platform availability should be checked for the reader’s device and region.

Screen titles using family-oriented metadata
The consumer app listing includes age ratings such as G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17. Age ratings can help a family screen a title, but ratings and metadata can vary by country and provider.
Does JustWatch show every way to watch a title?
JustWatch can show more than subscription streaming. Depending on the title and market, a title page may list the following options:
| Offer type | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | The title is listed through a subscription provider. | Whether the title is included in your plan, rather than requiring an extra payment. |
| Free | The title is available without a rental or purchase charge through the listed offer. | Whether an account, location, or other provider condition applies. |
| Free with ads | The provider offers the title with advertising. | Ad load, captions, video quality, and regional availability on the provider’s page. |
| Rental | You pay for temporary access through a provider. | Rental price, viewing window, expiration rules, and supported quality. |
| Purchase or download | You pay the provider for a purchase or download offer. | Price, device access, download rules, and the provider’s rights policy. |
| DVD or Blu-ray | A physical-media option is listed where available. | Region, delivery, format, and seller availability. |
“Where to watch” therefore does not automatically mean “free with the subscription you already have.” A title may appear in search because it can be rented, purchased, watched with ads, or obtained on physical media.
How large is the JustWatch catalog?
JustWatch’s published figures describe different products and should not be combined into one universal consumer-catalog number. According to the JustWatch app listing available for this article’s August 12, 2026 research timestamp, the company claims coverage of more than 4,500 streaming providers worldwide.
Separately, JustWatch partner documentation describes data coverage of up to 250,000 movies, 60,000 TV shows, more than 3,900 local provider catalogs, and more than 500 unique providers in over 100 countries. Those figures describe partner data coverage and are not a promise that every consumer-facing market displays every title, provider, or offer.

| Published description | Figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer app listing | More than 4,500 streaming providers worldwide | A broad company claim about worldwide provider coverage; the exact result set depends on country and product context. |
| Partner documentation | Up to 250,000 movies and 60,000 TV shows | Partner data-coverage figures, not a guaranteed identical catalog in every consumer market. |
| Partner documentation | More than 3,900 local provider catalogs and more than 500 unique providers in over 100 countries | International data coverage organized by locale and provider catalog. |
The partner API confirms that providers and offers are returned by locale. Supported examples include the United States (en_US), Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan, among other markets. JustWatch’s Content Partner documentation explains the country-specific structure.
Why can JustWatch show a title in one country but not another?
JustWatch shows a title differently by country because streaming rights, provider catalogs, prices, and release arrangements are territorial. A result found on the U.S. version of JustWatch should not be generalized to Canada, the United Kingdom, or another market.
Availability is also volatile over time. JustWatch title pages display when availability was checked, and a provider can add, remove, or reprice an offer after that check. When publishing a title-specific recommendation, include the market and the date checked—for example, “U.S. availability checked on [date]”—rather than presenting a provider result as permanent.
For a practical example of the information JustWatch title pages can expose, compare the service’s pages for Fireline and Things We Lost in the Fire. The available offer types and providers on a title page depend on the selected market and the time of the check.
Is JustWatch free, and what is JustWatch Pro?
JustWatch provides free core discovery features, while JustWatch Pro is an optional paid digital subscription. JustWatch Pro does not include Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, or any other video subscription, and it does not grant permanent rights to the videos listed by JustWatch.

The JustWatch Terms of Use describe Pro as a paid digital subscription whose price is shown in the app or website. Paid features are accessible through the mobile app and website, with some features also available through a TV app when the same account is used. Because pricing and feature availability can change, check the current in-product listing before subscribing.

JustWatch can direct users to third-party streaming, rental, and purchase offers. JustWatch’s privacy policy says the website may use affiliate links or other references to third-party offers and may receive commissions or other benefits if users click or use those offers. That means a provider link can have a commercial relationship behind it, but the policy does not establish a single commission rate, cookie duration, affiliate network, or universal commercial arrangement for every provider.
Commercial relationships do not remove the need to verify the provider page. Before starting playback or paying, confirm the displayed price, plan, rental period, subtitles, audio options, and country. JustWatch’s privacy policy provides the relevant disclosure about third-party references and potential benefits.

Publishers, media companies, apps, and other partners can explore JustWatch’s API, widgets, and data products for building a where-to-watch experience. The official partner materials describe title metadata, providers, offers, prices, currencies, monetization types, presentation types, direct provider URLs, and country-specific availability.
Partner integrations require a contract and a partner token or other access credentials. The documentation also requires branded JustWatch links beside widgets or where-to-watch integrations, including country-specific title links and the anchor text “JustWatch” or equivalent logo alternative text. The JustWatch Partner API documentation sets out those integration requirements.

JustWatch separately markets business-intelligence services using streaming availability, pricing, historical catalog, and consumer-intent data across more than 120 countries. That is a B2B partnership or sales opportunity, not an assumed public self-serve affiliate program. The company’s streaming API, widgets, and data-intelligence page describes these business products.
How should you use JustWatch without being misled?
- Set the correct country first. A provider result in one market may be unavailable in another.
- Read the offer type. “Subscription,” “free with ads,” “rent,” and “buy” are different costs and access conditions.
- Check the provider page before paying. Prices, availability, video quality, subtitles, and account requirements belong to the external provider.
- Record the date for published availability claims. Streaming rights and rental prices can change after JustWatch checks a title.
- Do not treat JustWatch as the streamer. JustWatch helps discover and launch offers; the linked provider supplies the playback.
- Use the watchlist for discovery, not guaranteed access. Saving a title does not prevent a provider from removing it later.
Is JustWatch worth using?
JustWatch is worth using if you regularly search across several streaming platforms, compare subscription and rental choices, track new additions, or want one watchlist for movies and shows. JustWatch is less useful if you expect one subscription to unlock every result, permanent availability, or identical catalogs across countries.
For a documentary viewer, the strongest use is simple: search a film once, confirm the market-specific offer type, compare the available providers, and verify the final details on the provider’s page before watching or paying. That saves repeated searches without confusing a streaming guide with a streaming subscription.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does JustWatch let you watch movies for free?
JustWatch is a search and discovery service, not a universal streaming subscription. JustWatch lists legal provider offers and links to the external service that supplies playback; the offer may be subscription-based, free, ad-supported, a rental, a purchase, or physical media depending on the title and country.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Does JustWatch Pro include streaming subscriptions?
JustWatch Pro is an optional paid digital subscription for JustWatch features. JustWatch Pro does not include Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, or other third-party video subscriptions, and it does not provide permanent rights to listed content.
How accurate is JustWatch availability?
JustWatch results can be accurate at the time they are checked, but streaming rights, prices, and provider catalogs change. Check the title’s market, availability-check time, and final provider page before relying on a listing or paying for access.
Can JustWatch find movies to rent or buy?
Yes, JustWatch can list rental and purchase options as well as subscription and free-with-ads options. A title appearing in JustWatch search does not necessarily mean the title is included at no extra cost in an existing subscription.
The Bottom Line
JustWatch is a legal cross-service guide for finding where movies and TV shows are available. It can compare subscription, free, ad-supported, rental, purchase, and physical-media offers, but availability is country-specific and temporary, and JustWatch Pro does not include third-party streaming subscriptions.
