There is no free setting that turns off ordinary Amazon Prime Video commercials in 2026. For U.S. customers, the supported solution is Prime Video Ultra, Amazon’s paid ad-free option. It costs $4.99 per month in addition to any Amazon Prime membership or other subscription you already pay for.
Prime Video Ultra removes advertising interruptions from most on-demand Prime movies and TV shows, but it does not make every Prime Video stream completely ad-free. Live TV, sports, free ad-supported titles, some add-on subscriptions, and promotional trailers can still contain ads or advertising material.
How to remove most Prime Video ads
- Go to the Prime Video website and sign in to the Amazon account you use for viewing.
- Open Your Account.
- Select Go Ad Free.
- Select Start Subscription.
- Review the displayed Prime Video Ultra price, billing information, and payment method, then confirm the subscription.
Amazon’s account menus can vary by country and app version, so the exact wording may differ. The website route is the most reliable because it is the path Amazon documents directly.

How to subscribe from a TV or streaming device
On supported Prime Video apps for Fire TV, smart TVs, game consoles, and set-top boxes, Amazon documents this route:
- Open the Prime Video app.
- Open Settings.
- Select Prime.
- Choose Go Ad Free.
- Select Start Subscription and confirm the displayed details.
If those options are missing, subscribe through the Prime Video website instead. A missing menu may indicate that the option is not available in your market, that the app needs updating, or that you are signed into a different Amazon account.
How much does Prime Video Ultra cost?
For customers in the United States, Amazon’s current public information lists Prime Video Ultra at $4.99 per month. It is an additional charge; it does not replace the underlying Prime membership.
Prime Video is included with U.S. Amazon Prime, which Amazon currently lists at $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Paying for Prime gives an eligible U.S. member access to the included Prime Video catalog, but it does not by itself remove the commercials Amazon has added to ordinary Prime Video programming. The extra ad-free subscription is what provides the relevant benefit.

What Prime Video Ultra removes
Ultra is intended to remove ordinary advertising interruptions from most Prime movies and TV shows on demand. Amazon says the benefit applies across all Prime Video profiles on the account, so creating a different profile should not be necessary.
“Most” matters. The accurate expectation is not “every Prime Video stream will be ad-free,” but rather “eligible on-demand Prime movies and series will generally play without ordinary commercial breaks.”

Can you skip Prime Video commercials without paying?
Amazon’s current customer-support guidance does not describe a free ad-blocking switch, account preference, or skip control that removes ordinary Prime Video commercials. The ads in affected Prime movies and shows cannot be skipped through a supported Prime Video setting.
A short trailer before a program is different: Amazon says promotional trailers can be skipped, even though they cannot be removed with Ultra. If the on-screen control lets you skip a trailer, use that control; it does not mean that ordinary commercial breaks can also be skipped.

Do browser ad blockers, VPNs, or a new streaming device turn off the ads?
They should not be treated as reliable or official solutions. The advertising entitlement is associated with the Amazon account and the type of content being played, not simply with the television, HDMI port, or streaming hardware.
- Changing devices: Moving from a smart-TV app to Fire TV, a game console, or another set-top box does not itself grant ad-free access.
- Changing profiles: Profiles on the same account do not bypass the subscription requirement.
- Reinstalling the app: Reinstallation can fix a software problem, but it does not remove account-level advertising.
- Changing device advertising settings: Television or operating-system ad preferences do not control Prime Video’s content entitlement.
- Browser ad blockers or VPNs: Amazon’s reviewed support material does not establish these as supported ways to disable Prime Video ads. They can also cause playback, sign-in, location, or terms-of-service problems.
A Fire TV device can run the Prime Video app, but buying one is not a substitute for Prime Video Ultra. Hardware may be useful if you need a compatible way to watch, not as a method for turning off the account’s advertising.

How to tell why you are still seeing ads
You are seeing ordinary commercial breaks in a Prime movie or series
- Open Prime Video on the website and sign into the intended Amazon account.
- Open Your Account and check whether the account shows an active ad-free subscription.
- If Ultra is not active, select Go Ad Free and review the subscription options.
- If you already subscribed, sign out and back in on the viewing device, then check that the device is using the same Amazon account.
You see a short video before the movie or episode starts
It may be an Amazon promotional trailer rather than an ordinary commercial break. Amazon says Prime Video Ultra does not remove these trailers, although they can be skipped. Look for the skip control and continue to the program.
You are watching sports, live TV, or another live event
Ultra may be active and working as intended. Live programming is one of the categories in which advertising can remain.
The title says “watch with ads” or “with ads”
That label indicates free ad-supported programming. Prime Video Ultra does not necessarily remove advertising from this category, so check the title’s description and subscription terms rather than assuming the account upgrade covers it.

You subscribed but the option or benefit is not appearing
Check the account used to purchase Ultra, update or restart the Prime Video app, and try the Prime Video website. If the charge appears but the entitlement remains unavailable, use Amazon’s account and Prime Video support channels; do not purchase the subscription again before resolving the account mismatch.

On the Prime Video website:
- Sign in to Prime Video.
- Open Your Account.
- Select Cancel Ad Free.
- Confirm the cancellation.
On supported TV and set-top-box apps, Amazon documents Settings > Prime > Cancel Ad Free.
On Android, iPhone, iPad, and Fire Tablet, the documented route is Settings > Prime & Subscriptions > Cancel Ad Free.
If you bought the subscription through Apple, Amazon says cancellation must be completed at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge. After the current billing period ends, limited advertising returns to eligible Prime movies and TV shows. Does Prime Video Ultra work outside the United States?
Do not assume that the U.S. name or price applies internationally. Amazon’s help documentation lists Prime Video Ad Free as available in multiple countries, while stating that Prime Video Ultra is currently available to customers in the United States.

Outside the U.S., open your local Prime Video account page and check the option Amazon presents. The name, currency, price, billing schedule, availability, and content exceptions can vary by market. A U.S. account’s $4.99 price should not be used as a worldwide price.
