What is The Beekeeper about?
Jason Statham plays Adam Clay, a quiet former operative of a secret organization known as the Beekeepers. After a personal tragedy is connected to a large-scale fraud scheme, Clay comes out of retirement and begins hunting the people responsible.
His investigation starts as a focused revenge mission but quickly expands into a threat involving powerful institutions and national stakes. The Beekeepers’ name is more than a codename: the organization uses an apicultural metaphor for maintaining order, eliminating threats, and protecting the wider “hive.”
The film is best approached as a fast, deliberately heightened action thriller rather than a realistic espionage procedural. Its appeal comes from the straightforward revenge setup, Statham’s controlled action-hero persona, escalating confrontations, and the increasingly elaborate mythology surrounding the Beekeepers.

Because the movie was released in 2024, it is more accurate to describe it as a 2024 action film—not as a new release. Its home-media release also means that viewers who prefer to keep a permanent copy can look for The Beekeeper on Blu-ray or Ultra HD Blu-ray, subject to current stock and edition availability.

No authoritative current Netflix listing was established for this guide. Do not assume that a social-media post, search snippet, or generic streaming article proves Netflix availability. The most specific U.S. listing reviewed here pointed instead to Prime Video, AMC+ services, Philo, and digital storefronts.
That answer applies to the U.S. snapshot described above. Netflix and other services use different catalogs in different countries, and licensing arrangements can change. Viewers elsewhere should search their local digital storefront or a country-specific availability guide.

How well was the movie received?
Reception has been mixed to positive rather than universally acclaimed. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists a 71% critics score and a 92% audience score. Its critics’ consensus characterizes the film as an intentionally undemanding, retro-styled action thriller.
Those figures are a snapshot, not a permanent score, and they do not mean every viewer will respond to the movie in the same way. The strongest fit is for audiences who want a compact Jason Statham vehicle with brutal set pieces, a simple revenge engine, and knowingly exaggerated conspiracy-worldbuilding. Viewers looking for a restrained or especially realistic intelligence thriller may find its tone and escalation less convincing.
What to know before pressing play
- It is action-first: the film prioritizes momentum and confrontation over procedural realism.
- The premise is intentionally simple: Clay’s mission begins with revenge and widens into a much larger crisis.
- The mythology is a major part of the hook: the secret Beekeeper organization gives the movie a comic-book-like framework.
- Expect mature content: the U.S. R rating and violent action make it unsuitable for children.
- It is a manageable commitment: at roughly 105–106 minutes, it is a relatively brisk feature rather than an extended franchise epic.
If the movie buffers while streaming
Buffering is usually a connection, device, app, or service issue—not a requirement to install a special movie-watching tool. First confirm that the streaming service is operating normally, restart the app, test another title, and if possible move closer to the router or use a wired connection. Lowering playback quality temporarily can also help identify whether the problem is bandwidth-related.
