Hulu identifies the movie as a 2025 R-rated horror-comedy directed by Osgood Perkins. The listed cast includes Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, and Colin O’Brien. Hulu’s catalog can change, and a title’s availability may differ outside the United States, so search for The Monkey directly in the Hulu app if it does not appear immediately.
Can you watch The Monkey free?
Possibly, through Kanopy. JustWatch lists Kanopy as a free streaming option in the United States. Kanopy access usually requires a library card from a participating public library or eligibility through a participating college or university.
That means Kanopy should not be treated as a guaranteed free service for every viewer. Search your library’s digital-media page or enter your library-card information in Kanopy to see whether your institution carries the film. If your library does not participate—or does not offer The Monkey in its catalog—you will need Hulu or a rental or purchase option.
Where to rent or buy The Monkey digitally
For viewers without Hulu or Kanopy access, JustWatch lists The Monkey for both digital rental and digital purchase on:
- Amazon Video
- Apple TV Store
- Fandango At Home
You can rent The Monkey on Amazon or compare it with the Apple TV and Fandango At Home listings. The exact rental period, purchase price, video quality, subtitles, audio formats, and supported devices should be confirmed on the individual storefront before payment. Digital storefront catalogs and prices are not fixed, and the options displayed can depend on your country or account region.

NEON’s official film page also includes a Watch Now option displaying a $5.99 price. Because the available page capture does not identify every transaction platform behind that button, it is safest to regard it as an official NEON viewing or purchase path and verify the destination and final terms before completing the transaction.
Is The Monkey available on Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray?
Yes. U.S. physical editions include DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray releases. A disc can make sense if you want a permanent copy rather than depending on a changing streaming catalog.
The most directly relevant physical option is The Monkey 4K Blu-ray. A standard The Monkey Blu-ray may be less expensive or easier to find, while the 4K edition is the collector-oriented choice for viewers with a compatible 4K Blu-ray player and television.
Before buying, check the specific listing for its included discs, video and audio formats, bonus features, seller, condition, delivery terms, and regional compatibility. Different editions do not necessarily contain identical extras or technical specifications.
What is The Monkey about?

After the toy’s arrival is followed by a series of deaths that tears their family apart, the brothers are separated. Twenty-five years later, renewed killings force them to confront the toy—and the past they tried to leave behind.

Osgood Perkins wrote and directed the film, which was produced by James Wan. Stephen King’s official site records the U.S. theatrical release as February 21, 2025, with NEON as distributor. NEON describes the movie as a new film from the writer-director of Longlegs.
Is The Monkey a sequel to Longlegs?
No. The films are connected by Osgood Perkins, not by story or characters. The Monkey is Perkins’s next feature after Longlegs, which is why it is often described as his follow-up. It is not a Longlegs sequel and does not share that film’s narrative universe.

The two movies also occupy different tonal territory. Longlegs is a grim investigative occult thriller, while The Monkey combines supernatural horror with horror-comedy. Someone looking for another Perkins-directed horror film may be interested in both, but watching Longlegs is not required to understand The Monkey.
