The three headline departures
Jigsaw — January 1
Jigsaw was the earliest of the three headline films in the reported U.S. calendar. Released in 2017, it is the eighth installment in the Saw franchise. If you had planned to watch it, it was the title requiring the most immediate attention: under the main schedule convention, its listed departure was the first day of the month.
For viewers who want to keep the film available beyond a streaming-license change, a Jigsaw Blu-ray/DVD is a format-qualified alternative. Edition availability, included discs, and current stock can change, so check the exact release details before buying.

Cats (2019) — January 15
Tom Hooper’s 2019 film adaptation of Cats was listed for mid-month removal. This is the 2019 movie—not the stage production and not another film with a similar title. The principal U.S. schedule placed the departure on January 15.
Universal Pictures At Home lists home-media editions including Cats Blu-ray and DVD, as well as a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital combination. A physical copy can therefore be a practical way to retain access if the movie is no longer included with a Netflix subscription, although retailer inventory and digital redemption terms are subject to change.
White Chicks — January 31
White Chicks was part of the large group of movies listed for the final reported removal date of January 31. The 2004 Wayans comedy was therefore available later in the month than Jigsaw or Cats, giving subscribers more time under that schedule to finish it.
Rank #2
For anyone who wants a non-streaming backup, Sony Pictures identifies the movie as available on digital and DVD. A White Chicks DVD is the most direct physical-media alternative; confirm the edition and seller’s current availability before purchasing.
Why Netflix removes licensed movies
A removal notice usually reflects the end of a licensing window, not a judgment that Netflix permanently owns—or has permanently rejected—a title. Netflix licenses films and television programs from studios and other rights holders around the world. When a license approaches expiration, Netflix says it weighs factors including whether the rights remain available, a title’s popularity in a particular region, and the cost of renewing those rights.
If Netflix does not renew a license, it generally gives members advance notice that the title is about to leave. The same movie can consequently remain available in one country while disappearing from another, or return to Netflix later under a new agreement.

Why some guides show a different date
There was a small but important date discrepancy in the January 2025 reporting. A December 29, 2024 tracker from What’s on Netflix described the list as U.S. departures but placed Jigsaw on January 2 and Cats on January 16. It also listed Focus and The Wedding Year on January 10 rather than January 9, among other differences.
TV Guide, Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Teen Vogue, and related coverage more consistently reproduced the January 1, January 15, and January 31 convention used in the table above. The difference may reflect a guide labeling the final viewing day versus the date a title disappears, a later update to Netflix’s schedule, or a regional/catalog change.

For a particular title, the most reliable practical check is the removal notice shown on your own Netflix account or device. Do not assume that a listed date means the movie will vanish at precisely midnight in every U.S. time zone.

What to do if you still want to watch one
- Check the title’s Netflix notice. Open the movie or series page and look for the “Last day to watch” or equivalent availability message.
- Prioritize the earliest date. Watch Jigsaw first under the principal schedule, then Cats, and finally White Chicks.
- Allow time for a series. The January list includes every listed season of Last Tango in Halifax, The Magicians, Monk, and New Amsterdam. A full-series binge may not be realistic before the relevant date.
- Consider home media for a title you revisit. DVDs and Blu-rays are not Netflix products, but they can preserve access when a streaming license ends. Verify the specific edition and region compatibility.
- Recheck after removal. A departure from Netflix does not mean a title has disappeared from all digital stores, disc retailers, libraries, or other licensed services.

Does leaving Netflix mean a movie is unavailable everywhere?
No. A Netflix departure normally concerns that service’s license in a particular region. The movie may still be available through another streaming service, a digital store, a library, or DVD/Blu-ray, and it may return to Netflix later.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: In the reported Netflix U.S. January 2025 calendar, watch Jigsaw first, before January 1; schedule Cats before January 15; and save White Chicks for no later than January 31. Treat those dates as reported catalog guidance rather than a worldwide, minute-by-minute guarantee.
