Lizzy Musi’s breast cancer diagnosis
Musi publicly disclosed in April 2023 that she had been diagnosed with triple-negative stage 4 breast cancer. In accounts of her public updates, she said the disease had spread to her lymph nodes and liver. Those details came from Musi’s own disclosures and contemporaneous reporting, not from publicly released medical records.
She continued to share parts of her treatment experience with followers, including updates about chemotherapy-related hair loss. The public timeline begins with her April 2023 announcement—approximately 14 months before her death—not with an earlier diagnosis established by the available reporting. There is no reliable basis for speculating about her treatment decisions, the progression of the disease, or the effectiveness of particular therapies.
A racing career built inside the Musi family business
Musi grew up around drag racing through her father, Pat Musi, who raced professionally and founded Pat Musi Racing Engines. She later became director of Musi Racing in Mooresville, North Carolina, combining the family’s engine-building background with her own career behind the wheel.

These accomplishments mattered in a form of racing that demands both mechanical precision and the ability to control a powerful car on a short, unpredictable track. Musi was not simply known because of her family name: she established a record of competition in her own right.
Her breakthrough on Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings
Musi’s national television profile grew through Discovery’s Street Outlaws franchise, particularly Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings. The series features high-powered cars racing on surfaces with little or no traditional track preparation, placing a premium on launches, traction management, tuning and driver reaction.

Discovery’s franchise coverage identified Musi as a featured racer and highlighted her nitrous-powered Camaro, known as Aftershock. Discovery also presented her as part of Team NOLA and promoted episodes in which she competed against other prominent drivers in the franchise.
Racing and obituary coverage described Musi as the first woman to win a No Prep Kings event. Legacy further credited her with becoming the first driver overall to win three No Prep Kings events consecutively. Because the latter is a specific record claim, it is best attributed to Legacy rather than presented as an independently audited series statistic.
Why Lizzy Musi’s career stood out
Musi occupied an unusual position in American motorsports. She competed at a high level in a traditionally male-dominated discipline while also working within a well-known racing-engine operation and appearing before a broad television audience. Her achievements were visible both in sanctioning-body competition and in the highly personal, character-driven world of Street Outlaws.

- Never underestimate the power of a girl.Live Love & Fight!
Her television appearances introduced viewers who might not have followed Pro Nitrous or doorslammer racing to the technical and physical demands of the sport. The image of Aftershock—a nitrous-powered Camaro driven by Musi—became closely associated with her place in the No Prep Kings field.
That public profile also shaped how fans experienced her illness. After announcing her diagnosis, Musi remained connected to the racing community and documented aspects of what she was facing. Her death therefore resonated beyond the show: fans were mourning a competitor whose career they had followed and a public figure who had spoken openly about a serious illness.
