But the broader claim that Raw became Netflix’s most-streamed show, or permanently “dethroned” Squid Game, is misleading. Netflix’s official weekly figures placed Raw fourth among English-language TV titles for the week of January 6, with 5.9 million views, while Squid Game led all titles with 26.3 million views.
What actually happened?
The confusion comes from treating several different Netflix and television audience measurements as though they were one chart.
On or around January 7, 2025, WWE Raw briefly occupied the No. 1 position on Netflix’s U.S. daily Top 10. That was a notable launch-day result: a live weekly wrestling program temporarily moved ahead of the highly popular second season of Squid Game on a country-level, day-by-day ranking.
It was not evidence that Raw had become Netflix’s most-watched program worldwide. Nor did it lead Netflix’s official weekly measurement. In Netflix’s weekly report covering January 6–12, Squid Game was the week’s most-watched title with 26.3 million views, while the debut episode of Raw ranked fourth on the English-language TV list with 5.9 million views. Netflix’s own January 6 Top 10 report also said that Squid Game Season 2 had reached 152.5 million views since its December 26 premiere.

Daily U.S. chart versus weekly global ranking
Netflix publishes several different Top 10 systems:
- Country-level daily lists: These show what is performing in a particular country on a particular day.
- Weekly global lists: These aggregate viewing across the Netflix markets where a title is available.
- Weekly country lists: These measure performance within individual countries over a full week.
- Separate language categories: Netflix publishes distinct English-language and non-English-language TV and film lists.
That means a title can top a U.S. daily list while ranking below other programs on a global weekly list. A daily chart captures a short-term snapshot; a weekly chart captures a longer viewing window and a different geographic footprint.
Netflix’s stated methodology also matters. Its “views” figure is calculated by dividing the total hours watched by a title’s runtime. Netflix measures seasons separately and uses different lists for different categories and languages. The company explains the structure and methodology behind its Top 10 reporting in its overview of Netflix Top 10 data.
The numbers side by side
| Measure | Result | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. daily Netflix Top 10 | Raw briefly reached No. 1 | A short-term chart position in the United States |
| Netflix weekly English-language TV list | Raw ranked No. 4 | Weekly Netflix views, not a daily U.S. ranking |
| Raw weekly Netflix views | 5.9 million | The title’s reported weekly Netflix view count |
| Squid Game weekly views | 26.3 million | The week’s most-watched Netflix title |
| Squid Game Season 2 cumulative views | 152.5 million | Season-total views reported since its December 26 premiere |
These figures do not contradict one another. They answer different questions. The daily chart asks which programs were most prominent in a particular U.S. snapshot. Netflix’s weekly list asks how many calculated views titles accumulated during the reporting week across its relevant measurement system.

In a January 9, 2025 announcement, TKO, WWE and Netflix reported 4.9 million global Live+1 views for the premiere. The same release reported an average of 2.6 million U.S. households, measured by VideoAmp. WWE said that the U.S. household figure was 116% higher than Raw’s 2024 U.S. average of 1.2 million households and higher than any Monday Night Raw broadcast in the previous five years. The announcement also said the show more than doubled its adults 18–49 audience compared with the prior year.
Those are meaningful launch figures, but they should not be substituted for Netflix’s 5.9 million weekly views. The measures differ in at least three important ways:
- Geography: The 4.9 million figure was global, while the 2.6 million figure referred to U.S. households.
- Time window: Live+1 measures viewing through the day after the premiere; Netflix’s 5.9 million figure covered the company’s weekly reporting period.
- Counting method: The WWE release used a views methodology based on total viewing hours divided by runtime and described it as a proxy for average-minute audience at the household level. It also said the metric excluded co-viewing.
The global Live+1 total also did not represent every country. WWE’s release said it excluded 92 countries and territories where Netflix did not yet distribute WWE programming, including France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Philippines and South Korea. The appropriate conclusion is therefore that Raw had a strong, internationally significant debut—not that every reported number can be placed on one universal leaderboard.

Why the premiere was designed as a major event
Raw was not simply moved from one television channel to another. The January 6 premiere represented a major rights and distribution transition for WWE.
The show had aired on linear television since its 1993 debut. Under the partnership announced by WWE and Netflix in January 2024, Raw moved to Netflix in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Latin America and other territories beginning in January 2025. The agreement also contemplated additional WWE programming and premium live events in international markets.

The premiere was staged live from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern. WWE promoted appearances by The Rock, The Undertaker, Logan Paul, Travis Scott and John Cena, alongside matches and storylines involving Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan, Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso and Drew McIntyre.
That combination—an exclusive streaming debut, a live broadcast, a large venue and a deliberately packed lineup—helped make the episode an event capable of generating immediate chart visibility. It also explains why a daily Netflix ranking can be newsworthy even though the show did not lead the subsequent weekly title table.
What “most streamed” should mean here
There are three defensible ways to describe Raw’s performance:
- Accurate: “WWE Raw briefly topped Netflix’s U.S. daily Top 10 after its January 6 debut.”
- Accurate with qualification: “Raw had a strong Netflix launch, reaching No. 1 on the U.S. daily chart and reporting 4.9 million global Live+1 views.”
- Misleading: “WWE Raw became Netflix’s most-streamed show and dethroned Squid Game,” unless the sentence clearly identifies the U.S. daily chart and the approximate date.
The last version implies a broader victory than the evidence supports. Netflix’s official weekly data show that Squid Game remained the dominant title for the week, while Raw’s No. 1 position was temporary and limited to a particular country-level daily ranking.

In markets where Netflix carries WWE Raw, viewers need access to the Netflix subscription service. Availability is territory-specific, and WWE’s distribution does not extend to every country under the same arrangement. Readers can check Netflix’s official site for current service and device information. Raw can generally be accessed through supported computers, smart TVs, mobile devices, streaming players and game consoles, subject to Netflix’s current plans and regional catalog.

The bottom line
WWE Raw’s Netflix debut was successful enough to briefly top the U.S. daily Netflix chart and to produce strong reported launch numbers. But it did not become Netflix’s most-streamed show overall. In the official weekly data for the week of January 6, Squid Game led with 26.3 million views and Raw ranked fourth among English-language TV titles with 5.9 million. The accurate story is a major live-streaming debut and a short-lived U.S. daily-chart win—not a global or weekly defeat of Squid Game.
