Correction: SpaceX’s seventh Starship flight test is not launching today. Flight 7 lifted off on January 16, 2025, at 4:37 p.m. Central Time from Starbase, Texas. You can watch the archived mission through SpaceX’s official Flight 7 mission page, which includes a REWATCH presentation.

The test produced a split result: the Super Heavy booster completed its landing sequence and was caught by the launch tower, while the upper-stage Starship vehicle was lost during flight. It was an uncrewed development test—not NASA’s Crew-7 mission and not a crewed Starship flight.

How to watch Starship Flight 7 now

There is no live Flight 7 countdown or launch today. The mission already flew on January 16, 2025.

  1. Open SpaceX’s official page for Starship’s Seventh Flight Test.
  2. Select the page’s REWATCH option to view the official mission presentation.
  3. For another official source, look for SpaceX’s Flight 7 video on the company’s YouTube channel.

Third-party space-news videos can be useful for technical explanation, but check that they are clearly labeled as a replay, news report, or analysis. An archived webcast should not be described as a current live broadcast.

When and where did Flight 7 launch?

Starship Flight 7 launched at 4:37 p.m. CT on January 16, 2025, from SpaceX’s Starbase test and launch site near Boca Chica, Texas. The flight was an uncrewed test of an upgraded Starship and Super Heavy vehicle.

The mission was intended to test the vehicle’s ascent, the separation of its two stages, booster recovery, and the performance of the upper stage. It was not a passenger mission and did not carry astronauts.

What happened during the test?

Super Heavy completed a successful tower catch

All 33 Raptor engines on the Super Heavy booster powered the ascent. After hot-stage separation—the maneuver in which the upper stage begins its engine burn while still close to the departing booster—the booster attempted to return to the launch site.

Twelve of the 13 planned engines relit for the boostback burn. Super Heavy then performed its landing burn and was caught by the launch tower’s mechanical arms, often called the “chopsticks.” That recovery was a major milestone for the booster portion of the test.

The upper-stage Starship was lost

The upper-stage vehicle did not complete the mission. The Federal Aviation Administration classified the event as a Flight 7 mishap and required a mishap investigation after the loss of the Starship vehicle during launch operations.

  • SIMPLE SETUP, SMOOTH TRACKING: Features a manual altazimuth mount with dual-axis slow-motion controls. Follow the on-screen arrows to your target; when the bullseye turns green, you can view it clearly through the eyepiece.
  • 130MM REFLECTOR WITH IMPRESSIVE VIEWS: The 5" Newtonian reflector with high-reflectivity coatings delivers sharp, vivid views of the Moon, planets like Jupiter and Saturn, and deep-sky favorites like the Orion Nebula and Andromeda Galaxy.

That means the most accurate summary is neither simply “a success” nor simply “a failure.” The booster catch succeeded, but the upper-stage Starship was lost. The two outcomes should be reported separately.

The FAA’s preliminary information reported no public injuries. It also described debris-response activity and possible property-damage reports in Turks and Caicos. The FAA later said the mishap investigation had been closed.

What should viewers look for in the replay?

The official replay is most useful when watched in stages rather than treated as one uninterrupted launch video:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Launch and ascent: Watch the performance of all 33 Super Heavy engines and the vehicle’s climb away from Starbase.
  • Hot-stage separation: Observe the transition between the booster and upper stage.
  • Booster boostback: The booster relit 12 of its 13 planned engines for the return maneuver.
  • Landing burn and catch: The Super Heavy booster approached the tower and was captured by its mechanical arms.
  • Upper-stage flight: Pay attention to the later portion of the replay and the point at which Starship failed to complete the planned mission.

Because this was a test flight, the result includes both planned demonstrations and failure data. A dramatic recovery does not mean the complete two-stage mission succeeded, and the upper-stage loss does not erase the booster’s successful catch.

Is this the same as Crew-7?

No. Starship Flight 7 was an uncrewed SpaceX development test. NASA’s Crew-7 was a separate crewed Dragon mission. The two missions used different spacecraft and are unrelated.

What has happened to Starship since Flight 7?

Flight 7 is no longer the latest Starship test. According to SpaceX’s June 2026 prospectus, the company had completed 12 Starship flight tests by May 2026. The filing said Flight 12 introduced a next-generation Starship and Super Heavy vehicle and that SpaceX expected payload delivery to orbit in the second half of 2026 after additional testing.

Independent reporting also records a Flight 13 test in July 2026, following a Federal Aviation Administration air-traffic advisory for launch operations from Boca Chica/Starbase. These later flights are why an article describing Flight 7 as launching “today” is out of date as of August 12, 2026.

The FAA’s current Starship project information concerns licensing, environmental review, and authorized future operations. It includes a framework that allows up to 25 annual Starship/Super Heavy orbital launches, but it does not establish a Flight 7 launch on the current date.

Optional collectible for viewers

If watching the replay leaves you wanting a physical reminder of the test, a Starship die-cast model is a natural optional collectible. A recently identified shopping placement described a 13.77-inch model at 1:375 scale sold through Amazon. Availability, price, product details, and eligibility can change, so verify the current listing before purchasing.

This is a memorabilia suggestion—not equipment required to watch the replay.

Starship Flight 7 is an archived mission, not a launch happening today. Watch SpaceX’s official replay to see a successful Super Heavy booster catch alongside the loss of the upper-stage Starship. That split result—and the mission’s January 16, 2025 date—are essential context for understanding the test.
