EE TV launched in the UK on 6 December 2023 as BT TV’s rebrand, with live channels, streaming apps and new hardware options. The current service offers five flexible packages, while TV Box Pro supports aerial or internet viewing and recording; Apple TV 4K provides an internet-mode alternative. Launch-day impressions are historical.

EE TV is now a broadband-linked television service rather than a separate channel network. The most important choice is not simply the package name: it is whether your household needs an aerial, traditional recording, internet-only viewing, multi-room access or a particular streaming subscription.

Key takeaways

  • EE TV is BT TV under a new name, officially launched in the UK on 6 December 2023.
  • EE currently organises the service into five packages: Entertainment, Sport, Big Entertainment, Big Sport and Full Works.
  • TV Box Pro is the important choice for aerial reception and recording; Apple TV 4K is an internet-mode route focused on apps and streaming.
  • EE recommends aerial mode for TV Box Pro customers with broadband speeds below 22 Mbps, but aerial mode requires a working aerial and an aerial cable that is not supplied with the box.
  • TV Box Pro can record two programmes simultaneously in Internet Mode and four simultaneously in Aerial Mode, according to EE’s current help documentation.
  • Channel lists, package inclusions, prices and app availability can change, so the current EE checkout and channel guide matter more than launch-day coverage.

What is EE TV, and did EE TV launch today?

EE TV is BT TV under a new name: the UK service officially rebranded from BT TV to EE TV on 6 December 2023. The launch introduced new hardware choices and an updated interface, but EE TV was not a new television network built from scratch. EE now describes EE TV as “the home of your favourite live channels and streaming services, all in one place,” alongside EE Broadband; that wording is EE’s marketing description, not an independent value verdict. Read the current EE TV service explainer for the package structure that applies at publication time.

The title “EE TV launches today” belongs to a Tech Advisor launch feature published on 6 December 2023. Hannah Cowton-Barnes, Tech Advisor’s Entertainment Editor, wrote that she had gone hands-on with the rebranded BT TV service. The hands-on observations below are therefore attributed to that 2023 preview; they are not a new independent test by this article.

What does EE TV include now?

EE currently offers five named TV packages: Entertainment, Sport, Big Entertainment, Big Sport and Full Works. EE positions the packages as flexible, allowing customers to change their entertainment and sports choices rather than permanently paying for every category. Package prices, contract terms, hardware charges and eligibility depend on the broadband and checkout offer available to the UK customer, so no launch-era price should be treated as a current universal price.

EE TV package What the name indicates Important qualification
Entertainment Entertainment-focused TV and streaming content EE’s current description includes NOW Entertainment, HBO Max, NOW entertainment channels, Netflix Standard with Adverts and free-to-air channels.
Sport Sport-focused TV and streaming content Exact channels, services and price must be checked in the current EE offer.
Big Entertainment A broader entertainment package Contents and eligibility can change with the live EE checkout.
Big Sport A broader sports package Exact sports services and channels must be checked before signing up.
Full Works EE’s broadest named package “Full Works” does not mean every app or service is automatically included; check the current inclusions.

EE’s current Entertainment description names BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, E4, Challenge, Food Network and CBeebies among its free-to-air and entertainment content. EE’s support hub also documents access or management pages for Apple TV, BBC iPlayer, DAZN, Disney+, ITVX, NOW, Netflix, Paramount+, Prime Video, TNT Sports and YouTube. A service appearing in the EE TV ecosystem does not necessarily mean that the service is included in every package.

What channels do you get with EE TV?

EE TV provides free-to-air channels plus additional entertainment, news, international, children’s and specialist channels, with the exact list depending on the delivery mode and package. EE separates aerial-mode and internet-mode listings in its official EE TV Channel Guide, which was marked last updated 22 July 2026 when researched. Channel names, numbers and package availability are changeable, so check that guide immediately before publication or sign-up rather than relying on a permanent channel list.

EE added the Paramount+ app to the Apps rail on EE TV Box Pro and EE TV Box Mini on 2 December 2024. The announcement covered Paramount+ films, original programmes, series and family content, but the app’s presence on a box is separate from whether a Paramount+ subscription is included in a particular EE TV package. EE’s Paramount+ announcement provides the dated launch information.

Which EE TV box should you choose?

Choose TV Box Pro if aerial reception, conventional recording or a slower broadband connection is important. Choose Apple TV 4K if you want the internet-mode EE TV experience and a strong app-and-streaming focus. EE TV Mini is intended for a second or third television, while EE also supports access through apps and other documented platforms.

Device or route Delivery mode Best fit Key limitation or condition
EE TV Box Pro Aerial or internet Homes wanting aerial reception, recording or either connection method Aerial mode needs a working aerial and an aerial cable; internet mode depends on broadband.
Apple TV 4K Internet mode Viewers who prefer apps and streaming through Apple TV 4K It is not the aerial-reception route described by EE’s current delivery-mode guidance.
EE TV Box Mini Internet-oriented multi-room device A second or third television Package, availability and current hardware terms must be checked with EE.
EE TV apps and supported platforms Internet Watching or managing EE TV on supported devices Supported apps and included subscriptions are not the same thing.

Does EE TV work without an aerial?

Yes. EE TV can work without an aerial when you use Internet Mode through TV Box Pro, TV Box Edge or Apple TV 4K. Internet Mode relies on the broadband connection rather than terrestrial reception. TV Box Pro also supports Aerial Mode, but Aerial Mode requires a working aerial and offers a different recording capacity.

EE recommends Aerial Mode for TV Box Pro customers whose broadband speed is below 22 Mbps. EE says picture quality in Aerial Mode depends on the aerial signal, while picture quality in Internet Mode depends on broadband speed. For Wi-Fi, EE says the Smart Hub should be within five metres of the TV box. The EE channel guide and delivery-mode guidance should be checked against the equipment and connection available in the home.

EE’s TV Box Pro documentation says the supplied box includes the box itself, power supply, remote control, user guide, HDMI cable and Ethernet cable. EE explicitly says an aerial cable is not supplied. If you are choosing aerial mode, you will need a working aerial and a TV aerial cable suitable for the wall socket and equipment in your installation. The accessory is not required for every EE TV customer because Internet Mode is an alternative.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can EE TV record live TV?

Yes, TV Box Pro can record live television. EE’s current help documentation specifies that TV Box Pro can record up to two programmes simultaneously in Internet Mode and up to four simultaneously in Aerial Mode. When storage is full, the box automatically deletes the oldest watched recording unless the recording has been locked. See EE’s current TV Box Pro product help for the operating details.

Launch-day coverage reported up to 600 hours of recorded live TV and four simultaneous Freeview recordings. That 600-hour figure belongs to Tech Advisor’s 2023 report and should not be presented as an unqualified current specification when EE’s newer documentation gives mode-dependent recording figures. Recording behaviour can also differ from streaming playback: a recording made from an over-the-air channel is not the same as an on-demand stream with the same programme.

How did the EE TV launch interface perform?

Hannah Cowton-Barnes’s Tech Advisor preview described a simple interface that was not overloaded with advertising. The report said live-TV labels indicated when a programme had just started and how many minutes remained in a programme already in progress. The preview also described universal search across live channels and streaming apps. These are launch-day observations from the named Tech Advisor hands-on feature, dated December 2023, rather than current test results.

The same report said that EE TV could show live television through the Apple TV app and that TV Box Pro supported 4K and HDR content. Supported content, software and package rules may have changed since launch, so those claims are best treated as dated product observations rather than guarantees for every current programme.

The launch preview also reported a playback restriction: the journalist was told that adverts could not be fast-forwarded on certain streamed channels, including ITV, although adverts could still be skipped on some over-the-air recordings. EE did not offer an ad-skipping add-on at launch. Current advert controls should be verified before relying on this behaviour, because streaming policies and software features can change.

Is EE TV better than Sky, Virgin Media or streaming-only TV?

There is no universal winner. EE TV is most compelling for a UK household that already wants EE Broadband, wants live channels and streaming apps in one interface, and values a choice between aerial and internet delivery. A streaming-only Apple TV setup may be simpler for someone who does not need traditional channel bundles or recording, while a rival broadband-TV service may be preferable when its local availability, sports rights, hardware or total contract price is better.

Decision factor EE TV question to ask Why it matters when comparing alternatives
Hardware Do you need TV Box Pro, Apple TV 4K or a Mini box? Hardware determines recording, aerial support, app access and multi-room suitability.
Reception Will the television use an aerial, the internet, or either? Aerial reception avoids dependence on streaming bandwidth but needs a usable aerial; internet viewing avoids the aerial requirement but depends on broadband.
Recording Do you need simultaneous recording and automatic storage management? TV Box Pro’s current figures differ between Internet Mode and Aerial Mode.
Package flexibility Can entertainment and sports choices be changed as your viewing changes? EE makes monthly flexibility a central proposition, but the practical terms belong to the current offer.
Content Are the channels, sports rights and streaming subscriptions you want included? App availability does not prove package inclusion, and channel lists change.
Broadband dependency What speed, Wi-Fi position and provider commitment apply? Internet Mode depends on broadband quality, and EE TV is offered alongside EE Broadband.
Total cost What is the complete broadband, TV, add-on, hardware and contract cost? A headline package price can omit contract conditions, price changes or optional subscriptions.
Playback controls Can you pause, restart, record, catch up and handle adverts as you expect? Controls can vary between live channels, recordings and streamed services.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Is EE TV worth it?

EE TV is worth considering if you want one UK television interface for live channels and streaming services, already plan to take EE Broadband, and value the choice between TV Box Pro’s aerial mode and internet mode. TV Box Pro is the stronger fit for recording or a household with broadband below EE’s 22 Mbps recommendation for Internet Mode.

EE TV is less obviously suitable if you want a standalone television service without EE Broadband, only use a few streaming subscriptions, or expect every app listed in EE’s support pages to be included in the package. Before signing up, compare the complete current checkout total with the cost of buying the streaming services and broadband separately, and confirm the exact channels, sports services, hardware, contract term and playback rules you need.

What should you check before ordering EE TV?

  1. Check the live offer. Confirm the current package price, broadband price, contract length, hardware charge, add-ons and any applicable price-change terms in EE’s checkout.
  2. Choose the delivery method. Select Aerial Mode if the home has a suitable working aerial and recording needs favour it; select Internet Mode if the home has reliable broadband and does not need aerial reception.
  3. Measure the connection conditions. EE recommends Aerial Mode below 22 Mbps and says the Smart Hub should be within five metres of a TV box when using Wi-Fi.
  4. Plan the installation. TV Box Pro includes HDMI and Ethernet cables, but EE says it does not include an aerial cable. Confirm the wall socket and cable requirement before installation.
  5. Audit the content. Check the current EE channel guide and confirm whether each desired app or subscription is included, paid separately, or merely available on the platform.
  6. Test the features that matter. Confirm recording, catch-up, pausing, restarting and advert controls for the particular channels and apps your household watches.

EE TV launched as BT TV’s rebrand on 6 December 2023, but the practical buying decision is current: package contents, hardware offers, channel lists and app rules move over time. The safest verdict is conditional. TV Box Pro suits aerial reception and recording; Apple TV 4K suits internet-based app viewing; and the right package depends on the exact EE Broadband checkout available to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does EE TV work without an aerial?

Yes. EE TV works without an aerial in Internet Mode through TV Box Pro, TV Box Edge or Apple TV 4K. Internet Mode depends on broadband speed and does not require terrestrial reception.

Can EE TV record live TV?

Yes. TV Box Pro can record two programmes simultaneously in Internet Mode and four simultaneously in Aerial Mode, according to EE’s current help documentation. EE says the box deletes the oldest watched recording when storage is full unless the recording is locked.

How many EE TV packages are there?

EE TV currently has five named packages: Entertainment, Sport, Big Entertainment, Big Sport and Full Works. Exact prices, inclusions, contract terms and hardware charges depend on the current EE offer and checkout.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What box do you get with EE TV?

TV Box Pro is the better choice for aerial reception and traditional recording because it supports both Aerial Mode and Internet Mode. Apple TV 4K is an Internet Mode route suited to app and streaming viewing, while EE TV Mini is intended for a second or third television.

Does EE TV include an aerial cable?

No. EE’s TV Box Pro documentation lists a power supply, remote, user guide, HDMI cable and Ethernet cable, but says an aerial cable is not supplied. An aerial cable is only needed when using the box in Aerial Mode.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: EE TV is the rebranded BT TV service, not a wholly new TV network. It is a sensible UK option for EE Broadband customers who want live channels, streaming apps and flexible packages, especially when TV Box Pro’s aerial and recording features matter. Check the current checkout and channel guide before committing, because the 2023 launch offer and hands-on impressions are not guarantees of the 2026 service.
