Animeflix is defunct. The Animeflix.live operation experienced domain disruption in May 2024, moved users to replacement domains including Animeflix.gg and Animeflix.li, and announced an immediate shutdown in early July. The operators did not publicly give a detailed reason. In August, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) said it had shut down Animeflix, linking the service’s disappearance to copyright-enforcement action involving a Finland-based operation.
The most accurate conclusion is that Animeflix closed amid escalating legal and anti-piracy pressure. It is not established that the service was raided, that an operator was arrested, or that a particular company directly took its servers offline.
The short answer
The Animeflix discussed in the May 2024 r/Piracy thread was not experiencing an ordinary temporary outage. Its main domain, Animeflix.live, was caught up in a Delhi High Court copyright-blocking action; users then reported replacement domains; and the service announced an immediate closure in July 2024.
Animeflix’s operators described the shutdown as a decision made after “careful consideration,” but did not identify a lawsuit, raid, hosting provider, police action, or technical failure as the cause. ACE later published a statement claiming responsibility for shutting down the service. Those accounts can be reconciled: Animeflix announced the closure, apparently while under growing enforcement pressure, and ACE later presented the shutdown as an enforcement success.

What happened, in order?
| Date | What happened | What it tells us |
|---|---|---|
| May 16, 2024 | The Delhi High Court issued an ex-parte interim order in Universal City Studios Productions LLLP & Ors. v. Movies123.la & Ors. | The order targeted websites alleged to stream or host copyrighted works without authorization and included domain blocking, suspension, and a dynamic injunction. [c003] |
| Around May 22, 2024 | Users reported that Animeflix could no longer be reached through the subreddit megathread or saved bookmarks. | Community reports described roughly 30 hours of DNS problems before users began circulating new domains. [c001] |
| Late May 2024 | Animeflix users were directed to Animeflix.gg and Animeflix.li. | The May domain action appears to have disrupted a principal domain without immediately ending the service. [c001] [c003] |
| July 4–5, 2024 | An announcement reproduced from the Animeflix Discord said the service was closing immediately. The site then became unreachable. | The operators publicly announced a closure but did not explain the specific cause. [c004] [c005] |
| August 15, 2024 | ACE published a statement saying it had shut down Animeflix. | ACE claimed the operation was based near Helsinki, Finland, and described the action as an enforcement success. [c006] |
Why did Animeflix.live stop working?
Animeflix.live was included in the legal-enforcement context surrounding the Delhi High Court’s May 16, 2024 order. The order directed registrars to lock or suspend listed domains and required Indian internet service providers to block access within 48 hours. It also granted what the court called a “Dynamic+ injunction.”
A dynamic injunction is designed to address more than one fixed web address. It can allow rights holders to seek action against mirror sites, redirects, and alphanumeric variations associated with an already-injuncted service. That is why moving from Animeflix.live to Animeflix.gg or Animeflix.li did not necessarily remove the underlying legal risk.
Reporting connected Animeflix.live to that action and said the service responded by moving users to other domains. The evidence supports saying the court action disrupted the original domain. It does not support saying that the court directly ordered the final July shutdown or that the court itself seized Animeflix’s servers.

Did ACE take Animeflix down?
ACE later said that it had shut down Animeflix. In its statement, ACE described Animeflix as an illicit anime streaming service operated from near Helsinki, Finland. It reported that the service received between 7 million and 13 million visits per month, including approximately 2 million unique visitors, and said that nearly one-third of its traffic came from the United States, followed by India and the Philippines. ACE also said Animeflix offered more than 500 anime films and more than 400 anime series. [c006]

ACE’s statement is the strongest public indication that enforcement activity played a role in the disappearance. However, it does not establish every detail that readers sometimes assume from the phrase “shut down.” The public record available here does not prove:
- that a physical raid took place;
- that an Animeflix operator was arrested or charged;
- that Finnish police carried out a specific action;
- that Cloudflare, a registrar, or a hosting company performed a particular technical takedown;
- that a single court order directly caused the July closure; or
- that the operators publicly admitted ACE was responsible.
TorrentFreak initially described the closure as voluntary because that was how the Animeflix team presented it, then updated its reporting after ACE claimed responsibility. The careful summary is therefore: Animeflix announced a voluntary immediate closure in the context of mounting enforcement pressure, and ACE later claimed the shutdown as its action. [c005] [c006]
What happened to the Animeflix domains?
The original Animeflix.live domain was affected by the May 2024 legal action. Users subsequently circulated Animeflix.gg and Animeflix.li as alternatives. Those addresses should not be treated as stable official replacements: the service itself closed in July, and ACE later said that Animeflix and associated domains redirected visitors to its “Watch Legally” page. [c003] [c006]
Readers should also be cautious with any current website, app, browser extension, or social-media account using the Animeflix name. A later Reddit post described a new Animeflix-branded recreation by a different developer and discussed migrating MyAnimeList and AniList data. That post does not demonstrate continuity with the 2024 operators. A matching name, logo, domain suffix, or catalog is not proof that the original service returned. [c007]
For that reason, this article does not provide links to replacement piracy domains. Apart from the copyright issues, lookalike services may have different operators, privacy practices, advertising networks, or download prompts.

Is Animeflix the same as the older AnimeUltima-related site?
Not necessarily. The Animeflix name has been used by more than one project. In a 2019 r/animepiracy discussion, the creator associated with AnimeUltima described an older Animeflix as a side project with its own interface and features. That history is separate from the Animeflix.live service that closed in July 2024. [c002]
This distinction explains some apparently conflicting search results and user memories. “Animeflix” is a reused brand name, not reliable proof of a single continuous service or operator.

Strongly documented
- Users reported access and DNS problems around May 22, 2024. [c001]
- Animeflix.live was linked in reporting to the Delhi High Court’s May 16 copyright-enforcement action. [c003]
- Users were directed to Animeflix.gg and Animeflix.li before the final closure. [c001] [c003]
- The operators announced an immediate shutdown in early July without giving a detailed public reason. [c004] [c005]
- ACE later officially claimed that it had shut down Animeflix. [c006]
Not established by the available record
- The identities of the operators.
- Whether any operator was arrested, charged, or prosecuted.
- Whether the July closure followed a specific direct court order.
- Which organization, if any, performed the technical action that made the service unreachable.
- Whether later Animeflix-branded projects are operated by the original team.
Is the original Animeflix still online?
No—the original Animeflix operation associated with the 2024 shutdown should be treated as defunct. That conclusion is better supported than claims that the original service is currently operating. New domains or applications using the name may be recreations, clones, unrelated projects, or attempts to benefit from the old brand. They should not be described as the official Animeflix continuation without an authenticated announcement or other strong evidence of continuity.
The status described here is based on the evidence available through August 11, 2026. That date is important because online services can change after an article is published, while a later site using the same name would still require separate verification.
What can you use instead?
If the goal is simply to keep watching anime, licensed services are the more stable option. ACE’s legal-viewing directory lists providers such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Crunchyroll. Catalogs vary by country, licensing agreement, language, and title, so no service should be assumed to carry the entire Animeflix catalog.

Crunchyroll Premium is a direct legal anime-streaming option. Its official help documentation describes ad-free Premium viewing, subtitled and dubbed programming, watchlists, profiles, simulcast access, and support for multiple device types. Availability and release timing still vary by region and by series. A subscription is therefore a practical alternative for many viewers, but not a guarantee that a particular show formerly found on Animeflix will be available in your country. [c008] [c009]
For series you want to keep permanently, check licensed anime Blu-ray box sets and other official home-video releases. The Crunchyroll Store maintains an anime Blu-ray and box-set catalog, while official GKIDS home-video pages identify Amazon as a retailer for selected Blu-ray and 4K releases. Physical availability is title-specific: some series have complete collections, some have only individual seasons or films, and some have no current release. [c012] [c013]

There is no evidence in the supplied record that the original Animeflix operation infected users with malware. Do not turn general caution about piracy clones into a claim that Animeflix caused a site-wide infection.
However, an unverified successor or lookalike can expose visitors to aggressive redirects, deceptive download buttons, unwanted browser extensions, or potentially unwanted applications. If you visited one and downloaded something, take these steps:
- Close the page and do not run files that you did not deliberately download from a trusted source.
- Remove unfamiliar browser extensions and check the browser’s notification permissions.
- Review recently installed Windows applications and uninstall anything you do not recognize.
- Run an up-to-date antivirus or Microsoft Defender scan.
- Change passwords if you entered them into a suspicious page, especially if you reused those passwords elsewhere.
- Check for unfamiliar browser redirects, new search engines, or changed homepage settings.
These steps are precautionary. They do not establish that Animeflix itself infected your computer.
Bottom line
Animeflix did not simply disappear because of a routine DNS outage. Its main domain was caught in a May 2024 copyright-enforcement action, the service moved to other domains, and the operators announced an immediate closure in July. ACE later claimed that it had shut down the Finland-based operation.

The responsible explanation is not “Animeflix was definitely raided” or “the operators were arrested.” Those details are unproven. The evidence supports a narrower and more defensible conclusion: the 2024 Animeflix operation is defunct, and its closure occurred amid escalating copyright-enforcement pressure that ACE later claimed as a shutdown.
