Kurt Russell says the Old Snowmass, Colorado, home he shares with Goldie Hawn is his favorite of the couple’s residences. He has described the long-held log-cabin lodge as a place of mountain views, horseback riding, family connection, and a quieter life away from Hollywood.
Kurt Russell says the Old Snowmass, Colorado, home he shares with Goldie Hawn is his favorite of the couple’s residences. In a March 20, 2026 Wall Street Journal House Call interview, Russell described it as “a large, beautiful log-cabin lodge on a ranch” and said they moved into it “a little over 40 years ago.”
The description matters because the Colorado property is more than a celebrity retreat in Russell’s telling. It connects several parts of his life: a childhood affection for log cabins, his long partnership with Hawn, a rural lifestyle that he deliberately chose, and the family’s continuing relationship with Colorado.
What Kurt Russell loves about the Colorado home
Russell offered a distinctly personal picture of the house rather than a conventional celebrity-real-estate tour. He said he enjoys waking up to a view of the mountains, going to the barn to saddle a horse and ride, and spending time in front of the living-room fireplace.

Those details help explain why he considers the Old Snowmass residence his favorite. The appeal is not presented as a matter of size, price, or celebrity status. It is the combination of a working ranch setting, mountain scenery, horses, and the simple ritual of sitting beside a fire.
Russell and Hawn continue to divide their time among homes in Los Angeles, Palm Desert, Old Snowmass, and New York, according to the Wall Street Journal interview. Current reporting does not support describing the Colorado property as their full-time residence or saying that they have permanently relocated there.
A log-cabin connection that began in Maine
Russell’s affection for the Old Snowmass lodge appears to reach back to his childhood. He told the Wall Street Journal that his grandparents built a cabin in Rangeley, Maine, in 1939, and connected that family history to his enduring preference for log homes.
That background gives the Colorado house a meaning beyond its architecture. For Russell, a log home is associated with family memory and a particular way of living. The Old Snowmass lodge allows him to carry that idea into an adult home shared with Hawn and their family.
The available interviews do not establish that Russell personally built the entire residence. They do, however, show that he has spoken about the property in terms of its atmosphere and daily use: the mountain view, the barn, the horses, and the fireplace.

The property has been a family project for decades
A 1987 Los Angeles Times report from Old Snowmass provides an earlier snapshot of the Colorado compound. The newspaper reported that Hawn and Russell had 70 acres divided between their properties, along with a guest house, horses, and other animals. It described a roughly 5,000-square-foot log cabin that Russell was building for the family, with completion expected the following summer.
Later coverage from the Aspen-area real-estate publication Avant Garde Aspen describes the broader estate as Home Run Ranch. That account identifies a 6,500-square-foot, two-story log cabin with eight bedrooms and a 2,700-square-foot guest house. It also reports that the guest house housed Oliver Hudson in the mid-1980s and attributes a Russian-style entry arch to Russell.
These measurements should be treated as reported property details rather than a precisely reconciled public record. The 1987 newspaper description of a cabin under construction and the later 6,500-square-foot description could reflect additions, changes to the home, different measurement methods, or different portions of the property. The safest conclusion is that the family’s Colorado residence began as a substantial log cabin project and has been described in later coverage as a larger lodge.
Likewise, details such as “Home Run Ranch,” the acreage, bedroom count, and guest-house size come from secondary real-estate coverage. They should not be read as evidence that the property is currently listed for sale, open to visitors, available for rent, or publicly accessible.
Why Colorado remains important to Russell and Hawn
Russell has spoken about choosing Colorado as a lifestyle decision rather than merely imagining a different life. In an interview with Men’s Health, he said he moved to Colorado at 26 after deciding to live the life he wanted instead of only talking about it.

That move did not end his connection to Hollywood. Russell said his professional business remained centered largely in Los Angeles, creating a long-running pattern of moving between Colorado and California. The arrangement gave him a rural base without requiring him to abandon film and television work.
The contrast also appears in his more recent comments. In a March 2026 interview with Fox News Digital, Russell said he wished he and Hawn could spend more time in Colorado. He emphasized that Hawn enjoys being there and described Colorado as offering “a different kind of life” from Hollywood.

Family is another reason the state remains significant. Fox News Digital reported that the couple’s son Wyatt Russell, his wife Meredith Hagner, and their children live in Colorado. That makes the property not only a retreat from professional life but also a place where the wider family can remain close.
The home reflects a long partnership
Russell and Hawn reconnected while working on Swing Shift in 1983. In the Wall Street Journal interview, Russell said they agreed to “have fun until we don’t,” and described their relationship as having lasted 43 years.
Their blended family includes Hawn’s children Oliver and Kate Hudson, Russell’s son Boston Russell, and their son Wyatt Russell. The Colorado property’s history overlaps with that family story: the 1987 account mentioned the guest house and the children, while Russell’s current comments place family life at the center of the home’s appeal.

From a private ranch to a Western state of mind
Russell’s comments about Colorado also echo the kinds of landscapes and emotional tensions that have shaped his screen work. His Men’s Health interview connected his real-life Colorado experience with his role in Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison, a series involving the emotional pull of the Western mountains.
That connection should not be taken to mean that the fictional story reproduces Russell’s home life. It does show why the setting has personal resonance for him. Colorado represents a place where professional identity, family life, outdoor activity, and a quieter pace can coexist.
For that reason, the most revealing feature of the Old Snowmass lodge may not be its reported square footage or number of bedrooms. It is the continuity behind it. Russell’s favorite home brings together the Maine cabin he remembers from childhood, the ranch life he chose in his twenties, the partnership he began with Hawn in the 1980s, and the family ties that still draw them back to Colorado.
For readers inspired by the lodge style
The story’s architectural appeal lies in the broader tradition of mountain cabins: exposed timber, a strong connection to the landscape, gathering spaces organized around a fireplace, and practical links to outdoor life. Readers who want to explore that tradition can look for a log cabin design book covering cabin style, log-home construction, or outbuildings. Relevant publisher titles include Cabin Style, Log Homes Made Easy, and Log Cabins and Outbuildings.
