Inside Château Miraval: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Provence Wine, and the Estate’s Music Legacy

Château Miraval is a private Provençal estate, winery, and historic recording site—not a public tourist attraction. Here is how its vineyards, wines, music legacy, Fleur de Miraval Champagne project, and Jolie-Pitt ownership dispute fit together.

Château Miraval is not simply Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s former French home. It is a private Provençal estate with vineyards, a château, a historic recording studio, and a wine business developed with the Perrin family. Its wines made the property famous, while its music history and continuing ownership dispute made it one of the world’s most closely watched celebrity estates.

Château Miraval is not an ordinary celebrity retreat—and it is not a public attraction that visitors can freely tour. The private estate in Provence combines vineyards, a residential château, a long-running recording-studio tradition, and a wine business developed with the Perrin family. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made Miraval globally famous, but its identity rests just as much on Provençal terroir, winemaking expertise, and music history.

The most accurate way to think about Miraval is as an estate and brand with several overlapping stories: a large vineyard property in France’s Var region, the home of the Miraval rosé label, a former recording destination for major musicians, and the subject of an unresolved business dispute involving Pitt, Jolie, and the company that acquired Jolie’s interest.

Where is Château Miraval?

Château Miraval lies in Provence, in southeastern France. The estate extends across the territories of Correns and Châteauvert in the Var department and covers more than 600 hectares, according to Miraval’s official information.

Its vineyards span the Côtes de Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence appellations. Vineyard parcels are arranged on dry-stone terraces, with an average altitude of approximately 350 metres. The setting is characterized by woodland, Mediterranean light, elevated slopes, and relatively cool nights—conditions that Miraval associates with freshness in its wines.

That landscape is central to the estate’s image, but it is important not to confuse a description of the property with an invitation to visit. Château Miraval is private and is not generally open to casual public tours. Miraval’s own FAQ directs people interested in its wines to the Famille Perrin tasting room in Châteauneuf-du-Pape rather than to the château.

What is actually at the estate?

Miraval is a working wine estate as well as a residential property. The château sits within a much larger domain of vineyards, terraces, woodland, and agricultural land. The estate’s public-facing identity also includes art and hospitality initiatives, including a private setting described by Miraval Hospitality as being dedicated to artists in residence.

The property’s visual appeal helped make it a natural subject for celebrity coverage: a historic-looking Provençal residence, broad rural surroundings, and a recognizable wine label. But reducing Miraval to a mansion owned by actors misses the commercial structure behind the wine.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and the Perrin family

Pitt and Jolie acquired the company behind the French Miraval business in 2008 through separate California investment companies. A California Court of Appeal opinion published on June 24, 2026, states that Pitt’s company initially held 60 percent and Jolie’s 40 percent. Shortly before their 2014 marriage, the shares were changed so that each investment company held 50 percent.

The couple married at Château Miraval in 2014, further tying the estate to their private lives. Their connection to the property, however, was not the same thing as independently running every part of the wine operation. The Miraval wine business was developed with the Perrin family, a prominent French winemaking family associated with Famille Perrin.

The Perrin partnership is one reason Miraval’s wine story is more substantial than a celebrity label placed on a bottle. The estate’s wines are presented through Provençal appellations, vineyard parcels, production choices, and a house style shaped with regional winemaking expertise.

Miraval’s wines: rosé, white, red, and premium cuvées

Miraval’s official FAQ describes four principal wine categories from the estate:

  • One rosé under the AOC Côtes de Provence designation.
  • Two white wines—one AOC Côtes de Provence and one AOC Coteaux Varois en Provence.
  • One red wine classified as Vin de France.

The best-known bottle is the estate’s Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé. The official product page identifies the 2025 vintage and describes fruit from clay-and-limestone parcels, including terraces at roughly 350 metres. Vintage-specific details matter: the bottle available in a given country may be from a different year, and availability changes by market.

Miraval also produces more specialized rosé expressions. Muse de Miraval is positioned as a premium wine made from selected older and higher-quality parcels. Miraval says it is vinified primarily in egg-shaped concrete tanks, with a smaller portion matured in demi-muids. The producer identifies Grenache and Rolle among its grapes. These are the estate’s own production descriptions, not independent laboratory findings or a substitute for tasting a particular vintage.

Studio by Miraval is a separate rosé created as a tribute to the recording studio on the estate. Its listed varieties include Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle, and Tibouren. The official description refers to direct pressing, stainless-steel fermentation for some varieties, and partial fermentation in ovoid concrete tanks. Miraval suggests serving it with Mediterranean food, salads, grilled dishes, sushi, or as an aperitif.

Readers looking for the bottle discussed here should search for the exact product name, Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé, and check the vintage, country of origin, alcohol-sale rules, legal-age requirements, shipping restrictions, and retailer licensing in their location. A specific bottle should not be treated as universally available simply because the brand is internationally recognizable.

Are Miraval wines organic?

This is a point where celebrity-wine coverage often becomes imprecise. Miraval says that its vineyards are certified organic, but it does not market all of the finished wines as certified organic.

The reason given in the estate’s FAQ is that Miraval may blend grapes from the estate with grapes sourced from other vineyards. The FAQ also refers to a stabilization method that is not homologated as organic in Europe. Therefore, the accurate wording is that Miraval has organically certified vineyards—not that every Miraval wine is a certified-organic wine.

The wines are bottled at the Famille Perrin winery. That means the château should not automatically be described as the place where every stage of production, from vineyard to bottling, occurs.

The recording studio that gave Miraval another life

Long before Miraval became associated with Pitt and Jolie, the estate had a music history. French jazz musician Jacques Loussier established a recording studio at the château in 1977. Miraval’s official music materials say that international artists subsequently recorded there.

The studio is especially associated in popular culture with Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Studio by Miraval explicitly pays tribute to the recording facility where Pink Floyd recorded material connected with the album. That association makes the wine’s name more than a generic lifestyle reference: it points to a real chapter in the property’s history.

There are several periods to keep separate:

  1. The original studio: established by Jacques Loussier in 1977.
  2. The historic recording era: when international musicians used the facility, including Pink Floyd’s association with The Wall.
  3. The restoration and Miraval Studios identity: later materials describe the facility as restored and reopened under the Miraval Studios name, with a planned summer 2022 reopening.
  4. The wine tribute: Studio by Miraval uses the recording legacy as part of its identity.

Those points should not be collapsed into a claim that the studio operated continuously in exactly the same form, or that every artist associated with the brand recorded there during the Pitt-Jolie ownership period.

Fleur de Miraval is not the same as Château Miraval wine

Another frequent source of confusion is Fleur de Miraval. It is a separate rosé Champagne project associated with Brad Pitt, the Perrin family, and the Péters family, whose roots are in Champagne.

Fleur de Miraval should not be described as a Provence rosé made from grapes grown at Château Miraval. Champagne and Provence are different wine regions, and the Fleur de Miraval project is presented as a separate Champagne house and collaboration. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences identified Fleur de Miraval as the Champagne served at the 94th Oscars in 2022.

In practical terms, “Miraval rosé” usually refers to the Provence wine estate and its Côtes de Provence bottling, while “Fleur de Miraval” refers to the Champagne project. The names are related through the people and brand story, but they are not interchangeable products.

What happened in the Jolie-Pitt Miraval dispute?

The legal dispute is about corporate ownership and the sale of an interest in the business—not simply about a disagreement over a bottle of wine.

According to the California Court of Appeal’s June 24, 2026 opinion, Jolie ended negotiations with Pitt in mid-2021 and sold her California company, Nouvel, to Tenute del Mondo B.V. in October 2021. Tenute is a Dutch company associated with SPI Group. The transaction made Tenute and its beneficial owner, Yuri Shefler, co-owners alongside Pitt’s company.

Pitt alleges that he and Jolie had an implied agreement requiring mutual consent before either could sell an interest. His claims include breach-of-contract theories and allegations of tortious interference. The appellate opinion did not decide whether those allegations are ultimately true.

The June 24, 2026 ruling addressed a narrower procedural question: whether California courts could exercise personal jurisdiction over Shefler. The Court of Appeal reversed an order that had quashed service on him. The court pointed to allegations that Shefler directed negotiations, guaranteed a substantial portion of the purchase price, communicated with Jolie and California representatives, and participated in a transaction governed by California law with a California forum-selection clause.

That ruling allows the case against Shefler to proceed in California. It is a procedural victory for Pitt in the jurisdiction question, not a final judgment awarding him the winery or deciding the underlying contract and ownership claims. Reporting that the ruling “settled” the Miraval dispute would therefore go too far.

The former couple reached a divorce settlement in December 2024, but the Associated Press reported that the settlement did not resolve the separate Miraval lawsuit. The divorce case and the winery-related litigation are consequently separate matters.

Why Château Miraval remains unusual

Many celebrity wines begin and end with a name on a label. Miraval is more complicated. It has a substantial Provençal estate, vineyards with a defined geographic identity, a partnership with the Perrin family, a private château, an artists-in-residence concept, and a recording studio with roots reaching back to the 1970s.

Its public image also contains a useful tension. The estate is highly visible but physically private. The wines are globally recognizable but vary by vintage and market. The vineyards are organically certified, while the finished wines are not marketed as certified organic. Fleur de Miraval is linked to the same celebrity and winemaking story but belongs to Champagne rather than Provence. And the legal dispute remains active even though the couple’s divorce settlement is complete.

So the best “peek inside” Château Miraval is not a promise of a tourist walkthrough. It is a look at how one private Provençal property became, at different times, a vineyard, a recording destination, an artists’ retreat, a celebrity symbol, and a contested international wine business.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Château Miraval is a private estate and is not generally open to casual public tours. Visitors interested in the wines are directed to the Famille Perrin tasting room in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, while the surrounding Provence region offers separate public travel and wine experiences.

What wine is Château Miraval famous for?

The best-known Miraval bottle is the Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé. Miraval also produces Muse de Miraval and Studio by Miraval rosés, along with white and red wines. Vintage, appellation, and availability vary by product and market.

Are Château Miraval wines certified organic?

No. Miraval says its vineyards are certified organic, but the finished wines are not marketed as certified organic because the estate may use grapes from outside vineyards and uses a stabilization method that is not homologated as organic in Europe.

Is Fleur de Miraval the same as Château Miraval rosé?

No. Fleur de Miraval is a separate rosé Champagne collaboration involving Brad Pitt, the Perrin family, and the Péters family. It is not a Provence wine made from Château Miraval grapes.

Did Brad Pitt win the Château Miraval lawsuit?

Not yet. The June 24, 2026 California Court of Appeal ruling concerned personal jurisdiction over Yuri Shefler and allowed the case against him to proceed in California. It did not decide the ultimate contract or ownership claims.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Château Miraval is a private, more-than-600-hectare Provençal estate whose wines were developed with the Perrin family and whose history includes Jacques Loussier’s recording studio and Pink Floyd’s association with The Wall. Pitt and Jolie’s connection made it famous, but Jolie’s 2021 sale of her holding company led to a still-unresolved ownership dispute. The 2026 California ruling lets one part of that case proceed; it does not decide the ultimate merits.
