The 153rd Open took place at Royal Portrush from July 17–20, 2025, with Scottie Scheffler winning at 17 under par. The 2025 Open Championship is over. The 153rd Open was played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20, 2025, and Scottie Scheffler won at 17 under par. There is no longer a legitimate way to activate a “free trial” specifically for the 2025 tournament.
If you are looking for the event now, use the official Open website and its video coverage for highlights, results, player information, and tournament stories. If you meant the live U.S. viewing options that were available during the championship, the short answer was:
- Free official streaming: R&A TV offered selected Featured Groups, a Par-3 Channel, and Live at the Range—not the complete U.S. broadcast.
- Free U.S. television for some households: NBC carried substantial live coverage, including the weekend rounds, for viewers who could receive their local NBC affiliate with an antenna.
- Complete U.S. digital coverage: Peacock carried the early rounds, main digital feeds, Featured Groups, the Par-3 Channel, Open All Access, and other exclusive coverage as part of its paid offering.
- Other countries: Coverage depended on the licensed broadcaster holding rights in that territory.
What “free” actually meant for the 2025 Open
There was no universal, full-event, free livestream of the 2025 Open in the United States. The legitimate options fell into separate categories:

| Option | What it provided | Was it the complete tournament feed? |
|---|---|---|
| R&A TV | Selected Featured Groups, the Par-3 Channel, and Live at the Range | No; it was official supplemental coverage |
| NBC over the air | Substantial scheduled television coverage, including the principal weekend broadcasts | No; it did not include every Peacock-only feed |
| Peacock | Early-morning coverage, digital feeds, Featured Groups, the Par-3 Channel, Open All Access, and weekend coverage or simulcasts | It was the broadest U.S. streaming option, but it was a paid service |
| TheOpen.com and the official app | Live scoring, live blog coverage, statistics, player information, schedules, selected video, and links to official streams | No; the free app did not automatically include the complete television presentation |
R&A TV: the main free official livestream option
The best free official streaming lead was R&A TV. During the championship, it carried two Featured Groups per day, a dedicated Par-3 Channel, and Live at the Range in partnership with HSBC.
The Par-3 Channel focused on Royal Portrush’s sixth and 16th holes. Featured Groups followed selected players rather than switching among every important moment in the tournament, while Live at the Range covered preparation and practice-area activity. These feeds were useful for following particular groups or getting additional course coverage, but they were not a free substitute for the complete NBC and Peacock presentation.
Availability could vary by territory and by the rights attached to a particular feed. The safest approach was to start at the official Open website rather than search for an unverified “free Open Championship stream.”
How U.S. viewers could watch without paying for a streaming subscription
NBC with an antenna
NBC carried substantial live coverage, including the principal Saturday and Sunday broadcasts and portions of the first two rounds. A U.S. household that could receive its local NBC affiliate could watch that NBC portion without subscribing to Peacock, cable, or a live-TV streaming bundle.

Reception depended on your location, local station, terrain, building materials, and antenna placement. An indoor TV antenna can help receive a local NBC signal, but it does not unlock Peacock-exclusive streams and cannot guarantee reception. Check which stations are available at your address before buying equipment.
This distinction matters: free NBC over the air meant free access to NBC’s scheduled broadcast, not to every Featured Group, early-morning stream, or alternate feed that Peacock carried.
Free online updates from The Open
The official Open website and app were useful even for viewers who did not have a full video subscription. They provided live scoring, a live blog, player information, statistics, schedules, and selected video. The app was free to download, but “free app” did not mean that every live broadcast feed was unrestricted.
What Peacock carried
Peacock was the principal U.S. streaming home for the broad digital package. The official schedule showed Peacock coverage beginning at 1:30 a.m. Eastern on Thursday and Friday, before NBC’s main daytime coverage. Peacock also carried digital feeds such as:

- Featured Groups
- The Par-3 Channel
- Open All Access
- Weekend simulcast or complementary coverage
The exact plan requirements and pricing were time-sensitive. Peacock’s service materials identified live sports and events as part of its Premium offering, so it should not have been described as a universally free service or paired with an outdated promise of a 2025 trial.

For viewers who already had legitimate Peacock access and wanted to watch on a television, a compatible streaming device was an optional convenience—not a source of viewing rights. The device still required an authorized Peacock account or official web/app stream.
Golf Channel and the U.S. broadcast split
The R&A’s U.S. schedule covered NBC, Peacock, and Golf Channel, with 187 total live broadcast hours across those platforms. The platforms were complementary rather than interchangeable:
- NBC: Free over the air for households receiving a local NBC affiliate, with substantial scheduled coverage.
- Peacock: The broad digital package, including early starts and exclusive feeds.
- Golf Channel: Part of the U.S. television coverage arrangement, generally requiring access through a participating pay-TV or live-TV provider.
Because schedules and authentication rules can change, viewers should consult the broadcaster’s current listings for future Open championships rather than reuse the 2025 schedule.

International viewing options
The Open’s rights were divided by territory. The R&A said the 153rd Open was televised in 199 countries and territories through more than 30 broadcast partners. The relevant broadcaster for one country might not be available—or authorized—in another.

How to watch the 2025 Open now
Since the championship ended on July 20, 2025, the practical viewing route is different from a live-event guide:
- Start at TheOpen.com and select the 2025 championship or Royal Portrush tournament coverage.
- Use the official results and leaderboard pages to review Scheffler’s 17-under-par winning score and the final standings.
- Look for official highlights, interviews, features, and video clips from the event.
- Check the relevant NBC Sports, Golf Channel, Peacock, or international broadcaster platform for any replay or archive that it currently lists.
Do not assume that a page advertising a “full replay” still has permission to show the event, or that every highlight remains available indefinitely. Confirm that the video is hosted by an official Open or licensed broadcaster account before watching.
What to avoid
Be cautious with sites and social posts promising a free full Open Championship livestream. Unauthorized sports-streaming mirrors can disappear without notice, provide poor-quality or misleading video, expose viewers to malicious downloads, or request suspicious payment and login details. They also do not establish that the stream is licensed.

Bottom line for the 2025 event
The honest answer is that there was no single free, full-event U.S. livestream. R&A TV supplied free official supplemental video; NBC supplied free over-the-air coverage to households that could receive a local NBC station; and Peacock provided the most comprehensive U.S. digital coverage through its paid service. Now that the 2025 Open is complete, use the official Open website and licensed broadcaster archives for highlights, results, and any replay that remains available.
