- 64GB Wi-Fi: the entry configuration.
- 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet: adds Gigabit Ethernet and Thread networking.
Both versions use Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, HDMI 2.1, and an integrated power supply. The 128GB version is therefore not simply a higher-storage option: it is also the model to consider if wired networking or Thread-based smart-home functionality matters to you.
current Apple TV 4K performance and video support
The third-generation model uses Apple’s A15 Bionic chip. At launch, Apple claimed up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to 30 percent faster GPU performance than the previous generation. Those figures are Apple’s launch comparisons, not independent testing of a 2026 product.
The current model supports 4K HDR video, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital 7.1, and Dolby Digital 5.1. Its compact, fanless enclosure and integrated power supply are established characteristics of the existing model. They should not be treated as confirmed specifications for Apple TV 2026.
The current Siri Remote
The supplied third-generation Siri Remote uses Bluetooth 5.0, includes an infrared transmitter, and charges over USB-C. Apple documents compatibility with Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models running tvOS 15.4 or later. There is no reliable reporting that establishes a redesigned remote for 2026.

Apple’s current Apple TV user guide documents tvOS 26 on supported existing hardware. On Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward, tvOS 26 introduces the Liquid Glass design, a redesigned Apple TV app, FaceTime updates, and changes to Aerial screen savers.
Apple’s software-update documentation also lists tvOS 26.5 as bringing performance and stability improvements, along with earlier tvOS 26 changes such as Apple TV app profiles and playback-related fixes.
These updates matter to someone deciding whether to buy the current box, but they do not show that Apple TV 2026 has been released. Software support for existing models and a future hardware announcement are separate events.

Apple Intelligence and the next Siri
Apple announced at WWDC26 that it was previewing a new generation of Apple Intelligence and a substantially upgraded Siri across its operating systems, including tvOS-related software improvements. That announcement does not confirm a new Apple TV product, nor does it specify which future Apple TV hardware will support particular AI functions.
Recommended Free Tools
A newer processor could provide more headroom for on-device or hybrid AI features. It could also improve interface responsiveness, Apple Arcade performance, and video-decoding capability. Those are reasonable technical possibilities, not measured results from an unreleased device. Apple TV 2026 should not be advertised as an Apple Intelligence product until Apple publishes a hardware and software compatibility statement.
Most credible Apple TV 2026 hardware rumors
1. A newer A-series processor
This is the strongest hardware expectation. The current Apple TV 4K uses the A15 Bionic, and multiple reports expect Apple to move to newer A-series silicon in the successor. Reporting has mentioned possibilities ranging from an A17 Pro-class design to other newer A-series chips, but no official source confirms the exact processor.
The useful conclusion is not that Apple TV 2026 will definitely contain a particular chip. It is that a newer A-series processor would make sense after the current model’s long run. It could extend the device’s useful life for demanding apps and games and give Apple more flexibility for future tvOS features.
2. Faster or more capable wireless networking
The leading wireless rumor concerns a newer Apple-designed chip often identified in reports as the N1. Coverage has variously associated it with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread-related improvements. The reports are inconsistent, so none of those standards should be treated as confirmed.
Even if Apple adds a newer wireless standard, the practical improvement will depend on your router, supported frequency bands, network congestion, distance from the access point, and streaming workload. Faster Wi-Fi is most useful for homes with congested wireless networks or demanding local-media and smart-home setups; it will not automatically improve the quality of a streaming service whose internet connection is already the limiting factor.
3. A continued smart-home role
The current 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet Apple TV 4K acts as a Thread-capable smart-home hub. A successor is widely expected to retain or improve Apple’s smart-home positioning, but Apple has not confirmed a new radio stack, a change in hub architecture, or specific Matter capabilities for Apple TV 2026.

- PLAYS 2K QUAD-HD VIDEOS - Works with TVs old and new! Smoothly plays videos up to 2560x1440@60fps, upscaled to UHD 4K/60Hz HDMI output. Sharp and clear video and audio in pure digital format, compatible with 4K and 1080p TVs, projectors, and monitor displays. Composite AV output for use with analog TVs or for sending sound to a stereo system.

Thread and Matter should therefore be treated as buying criteria only after Apple publishes the final specifications. For now, the confirmed fact is limited to the current Ethernet-equipped model’s Thread support.
4. No confirmed major redesign
Current rumor coverage does not establish a major enclosure change. Some reporting expects the form factor to remain broadly similar, with the processor and wireless hardware receiving more attention than the exterior.
There is also no official confirmation of a new port layout, optical audio, USB, expanded HDMI 2.1 features, or a built-in camera. The current box uses HDMI 2.1 for video output, but the HDMI 2.1 label alone does not mean that every feature associated with the standard is supported.
5. Storage remains unknown
Apple has not confirmed whether Apple TV 2026 will retain the current 64GB and 128GB choices, use different capacities, or offer a single configuration. A 128GB option would be logical for a device positioned around gaming, apps, and longer-term performance, but that is an inference rather than a reported specification.
6. A built-in camera is still speculative
A camera has appeared in earlier Apple TV rumor cycles, but there is no credible official evidence that Apple TV 2026 will include one. Apple already supports FaceTime on Apple TV by using an iPhone or iPad as the camera and microphone through its Continuity Camera-style workflow.
That existing feature makes a camera-equipped box technically possible but not necessary. Do not wait for Apple TV 2026 solely because of the camera rumor, and do not assume a camera will be present unless Apple shows it in the product announcement.

If your current remote is lost or damaged, a replacement Siri Remote is the practical solution rather than waiting for an uncertain accessory refresh. Check the exact Apple TV and tvOS compatibility before buying.
Apple TV 2026 release date: what to expect
There is no confirmed release date. The current model has been available since November 2022, making a 2026 refresh plausible simply because of the unusually long gap between hardware generations.
The latest reporting places the new box in a broad second-half-of-2026 window. Some reports connect a late-2026 launch to the availability of Apple’s upgraded Siri and Apple Intelligence features. Technology media have also discussed a possible September Apple hardware event, but neither the event date nor Apple TV’s inclusion is official.

Until Apple publishes a press release or product page, phrases such as launches in September and available for preorder on a specific date are speculation.
Apple TV 2026 price
Apple has not announced a 2026 price. The 2022 launch announcement listed a starting price of £149 in the United Kingdom, but that historical UK figure is not a reliable guide to the eventual US price or to pricing in any other country.
Rumors of a lower-cost model or a price reduction have circulated, while later coverage has suggested that a lower price is not assured. The responsible buying method is to compare the eventual US MSRP, storage, Ethernet availability, and included accessories with the current model’s price at the time of launch.
Do not buy a current Apple TV 4K on the assumption that it is the 2026 model, and do not delay a purchase solely because an unverified lower price has been reported.

Should you buy an Apple TV 4K now or wait?
| Your situation | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need a dependable Apple streaming box now | Buy the current model | The existing Apple TV 4K supports 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, tvOS 26, and current Apple ecosystem features. |
| You find the current model at a compelling sale price | Buy now | The 2026 product has no confirmed price or launch date, so a discounted current model may offer better certainty. |
| You want the newest processor and maximum performance headroom | Wait | A newer A-series chip is the most credible hardware rumor. |
| You have a congested wireless network | Usually wait, or use Ethernet now | Improved wireless hardware is rumored but not confirmed. A wired connection is the known solution on the current Ethernet-equipped configuration. |
| You need Thread networking today | Buy the current 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet model | Thread support is documented on that current configuration; future Apple TV support has not been confirmed. |
| You are waiting for a built-in camera | Do not make this the deciding factor | FaceTime already works by using an iPhone or iPad camera, and the built-in-camera rumor is weak. |
| You specifically want Apple Intelligence on the television | Wait for Apple’s compatibility announcement | Apple has previewed broader AI and Siri capabilities but has not confirmed their hardware requirements on a future Apple TV. |
If you buy now, the current Apple TV 4K is the clearly identified product to compare. Choose the 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration if you need Gigabit Ethernet or Thread; do not assume that the 64GB Wi-Fi model provides the same networking features.

Setup considerations for the current model
Apple TV requires an HDMI cable, which Apple sells separately. An Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is a sensible setup choice for a modern 4K television, although the cable purchase should not be framed as proof that every HDMI 2.1 feature is required or supported.
If you choose the Ethernet-equipped model, a Cat 6 cable can connect the Apple TV to your router or network switch. That cable is optional for Wi-Fi users. Wired networking can be preferable for a television located far from the router, a congested wireless environment, or a home using Apple TV as part of a more dependable smart-home setup.
People who want to hide the box behind a television can consider an Apple TV wall mount, but compatibility, ventilation, cable clearance, and the dimensions of the specific Apple TV model must be checked. A mount designed for the current enclosure should not be assumed to fit Apple TV 2026 if Apple changes the housing.
What is confirmed, rumored, and unknown?
| Feature | Status | Confidence | What readers should conclude |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 successor in development | Credibly reported | Medium-high | A refresh appears plausible, but Apple has not announced it. |
| Official Apple TV 2026 announcement | Not published | High certainty | There is no official product page, price, date, or specification sheet as of August 12, 2026. |
| Newer A-series processor | Strong rumor | Medium-high | Expect a newer chip as a possibility, not a confirmed model number. |
| N1 or another improved wireless chip | Rumored | Medium | Improved wireless connectivity is plausible; the final standard is unknown. |
| Wi-Fi 7 | Unconfirmed rumor | Low-medium | Do not list it as a specification. |
| Bluetooth 6 | Unconfirmed rumor | Low-medium | Do not list it as a specification. |
| Built-in camera | Speculative | Low | FaceTime does not require one, and there is no confirmation. |
| Major industrial-design change | Weak or unsupported | Low | Assume neither a redesign nor the existing enclosure until Apple confirms it. |
| September 2026 release | Media speculation | Low-medium | It is one possible timing scenario, not a date. |
| Price and storage | Unknown | High certainty that they are unconfirmed | Wait for Apple’s regional product page before making price comparisons. |
Bottom line
Apple TV 2026 is a credible expected refresh, not a confirmed product. The best-supported expectation is a newer A-series processor, with improved wireless connectivity also plausible. The exact chip, wireless standards, storage, price, enclosure, camera, remote, and Apple Intelligence support are not established.
Buy the current Apple TV 4K if you need a reliable Apple streaming and smart-home box now, especially at a good sale price. Wait if performance headroom or future Siri and AI capabilities matter more than certainty. In either case, treat every detailed specification and specific launch date as provisional until Apple publishes official information.
