Forgot your HBO Max password? The service is currently labeled Max in official help documentation, and the reset process is straightforward: go to max.com/forgot-password, select Forgot Password?, enter the email linked to your account, and follow the newest reset email.
How to reset an HBO Max password
HBO Max is currently referred to as Max in the official help documentation, but your existing HBO Max and Max account credentials are handled through the same account. To reset the password, open the Max app or visit max.com/forgot-password, select Forgot Password?, enter the email address associated with the account, and select Submit.
- Open the Max app or the Max sign-in page.
- Select Forgot Password?. On a computer, you can go directly to max.com/forgot-password.
- Enter the email address used for your HBO Max or Max account and select Submit.
- Look for an email titled Max Password Reset or a similar subject, such as Your Max Password Reset Link. Max says the message should arrive within a few minutes.
- If you requested more than one reset email, open the newest message and select Reset Your Password.
- Enter a new password and select Save or Create Password, depending on the screen you see.
- Return to Max and sign in with your account email and new password.
You do not need to create a new Max account simply because you forgot the password or a reset email is delayed.
Reset your password on a phone, tablet, or computer
The same recovery process works in the Max app on a phone or tablet and in a web browser on a computer. A computer is often the simplest option because you can open the reset page directly, but the password-reset email can be opened on any device.

If you are using the Max app, open it and go to the sign-in screen. Select Forgot Password? and follow the prompts. If you are using a browser, go to max.com/forgot-password. Enter the email address you believe is connected to the account, then check your email for the reset message.
Reset the password on Apple TV
On Apple TV, the reset link is completed through email on another device:
- Open Max on Apple TV.
- Select Sign In.
- Select Use Email Address.
- Select Forgot Password?.
- Enter the account email address.
- Open the reset email on a phone, tablet, or computer and create the new password.
- Return to Max on Apple TV and sign in with the new password.
Reset the password on a smart TV or streaming device
Most television and streaming-device apps use the same Forgot Password? option. However, completing the reset from a phone or computer is usually easier than opening an email link on a television.
Start the reset in the TV app if necessary, then open the email on another device. After saving the new password, return to the TV app and sign in again. Your HBO Max profiles, watch history, and settings should remain available in Max when you use the same account.

- Search your entire mailbox, including Spam, Junk, Promotions, and other filtered folders.
- Search for Max Password Reset or Your Max Password Reset Link.
- Look for a message from [email protected], which Max identifies in its documented troubleshooting flow.
- Wait a few minutes, then request another reset email if necessary.
- Try other email addresses you may have used when subscribing to HBO Max or Max.
- If you are still signed in on a device, check the account email from the profile or account settings.
A missing email does not necessarily mean the account was deleted. It may mean that the wrong address was entered, the message was filtered, or the account uses a different email address.
How to find the email address on your Max account
If Max is still signed in on one of your devices, you may be able to identify the account email without resetting anything:
- Phone, tablet, or computer: open the profile menu and choose Account.
- TV or streaming device: open Settings, then choose Account.
You can also search each personal email account for messages from Max. If you subscribed when the service was called HBO Max, search for HBO Max as well. Check spam, junk, promotions, and other inbox folders.
If the password-reset link does not work
Use the newest reset message. Every time you request another link, an older link may no longer be the valid one. Max’s troubleshooting information says the reset-link subject includes a timestamp, which can help you identify the latest request.
If the newest link still fails:
- Open the newest reset email rather than an earlier message.
- Try opening the link on a different phone, tablet, or computer.
- Try a different browser.
- Request another reset email from max.com/forgot-password, then use the newest link.
If the reset link has expired
Max says password-reset links expire 24 hours after they are requested, or when a newer password-reset request is made. Return to max.com/forgot-password, request a new message, and use the newest link promptly.

If you no longer have access to the account email or phone
The self-service reset process requires access to the account’s email address. If the email contains a typo, you no longer control the email account, or you no longer have access to the phone associated with the account, contact Max Support through the official Max help channels.
Support is the next appropriate channel, but do not assume it can bypass account verification, change the account email, or restore access without confirming ownership. Never give anyone your password, reset token, or verification code.
If you know the current password and only want to change it
You do not need the forgot-password flow if you can still sign in:
- Sign in to Max on a phone, tablet, or computer.
- Choose your profile.
- Choose Account.
- Select the edit icon next to Password.
- Enter your current password.
- Enter the new password and choose Save.
Max says that changing the password signs the account out on all devices. You will need to sign in again with the new password on your television, phone, tablet, computer, and other devices.
If you think someone else is using your account
If you suspect unauthorized access, change the password immediately. Max says that changing the password signs the account out of all devices. Afterward:

- Sign in again with the new password.
- Open Manage Your Devices and review the devices associated with the account.
- Remove or sign out devices you do not recognize, where the available account controls allow it.
- Use a password that you do not use for another service.
If you cannot remember the current password, use the reset process instead of the signed-in change-password option. If Max displays “We couldn’t update your password,” its documented explanation is that the current password entered does not match. Re-enter it carefully or reset the password.

Some people receive Max through an internet, mobile, or television provider. In that situation, you may first need to connect or activate the provider subscription before signing in to Max.
The provider username and password are separate from your Max credentials. If the error concerns your internet, mobile, or television provider account, reset that password through the provider’s own website. Max Support does not have access to provider sign-in information.
Security reminders after you recover the account
- Do not reuse the new Max password on email, banking, shopping, or other streaming accounts.
- Do not share reset links, verification codes, or passwords.
- Review the device list if you suspect someone accessed the account.
- Store the new password securely so you do not have to rely on old reset emails later.
