Taylor Swift made MTV Video Music Awards history on September 11, 2024, winning seven awards and tying Beyoncé’s 30-career-VMA total at the conclusion of the ceremony. Her wins included Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Fortnight,” but the 30-win figure should be treated as the 2024 result rather than an automatically current solo record.
Taylor Swift made MTV Video Music Awards history on September 11, 2024, winning seven awards at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The haul lifted her career total to 30 VMAs at the conclusion of the ceremony, tying Beyoncé’s then-record total rather than giving Swift an uncontested solo record.

What records did Swift set or tie?
She tied Beyoncé’s 30-VMA total
Swift’s seven trophies brought her to 30 career VMA wins at the end of the 2024 ceremony. Guinness World Records recorded that result as a tie with Beyoncé, whose total was also 30. Therefore, the precise historical description is that Swift tied Beyoncé’s record at the 2024 VMAs.
This distinction matters because award totals can change at every subsequent ceremony. “30 career VMAs” describes Swift’s total on September 11, 2024; it should not automatically be presented as a permanent current record or as proof that she is the sole most-awarded artist.
She became the first artist to win Artist of the Year consecutively
Swift’s Artist of the Year victory was also a category milestone. Guinness identifies her as the first artist to retain the award, following her win the previous year. Her 2024 victory therefore added a consecutive-win record to the night’s broader career-total achievement.

She extended her Video of the Year record
“Fortnight” was Swift’s fifth Video of the Year win and her third consecutive victory in the category. Her five winning videos are:

- “Anti-Hero” — 2023
- “Fortnight” — 2024
The result gave Swift a notable combination of achievements in one evening: a seven-award performance, a tie in the overall career tally, consecutive Artist of the Year wins, and an expanded lead in Video of the Year victories.
Why “Fortnight” dominated the night
“Fortnight” was not simply nominated as a high-profile pop collaboration. It prevailed across several different parts of the VMA program. It won the top video prize, the collaboration category, the pop category, the direction category, the editing category, and Song of the Summer.
Rank #3
The spread of wins recognized multiple elements of the release: the song’s collaboration with Post Malone, its visual concept, Swift’s work behind the camera, and Chancler Haynes’s editing. It also explains why Swift’s seven-award total was more than a general popularity sweep—the ceremony credited the same project in performance, creative, and seasonal categories.
One category should not be confused with another: “Fortnight” won Song of the Summer, not Song of the Year. The official 2024 winners list named Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” as Song of the Year.

How the album connects to the VMA story
“Fortnight” opens The Tortured Poets Department. The official Taylor Swift site credits Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Austin Post as the song’s writers and lists an acoustic version among the album’s tracks.

For viewers who want a physical copy of the music behind the ceremony, The Tortured Poets Department vinyl is the most direct collectible connection. The listed physical edition contains 16 tracks plus the bonus track “The Manuscript,” along with collectible packaging, lyric replicas, and unique photos. It is an album edition—not an official VMA commemorative product—and pricing, stock, formats, and regional availability can change.
A CD edition is a practical alternative for listeners who prefer a smaller or typically less display-focused physical format. Collectors displaying multiple records can also consider the The Tortured Poets Department vinyl display case, which is described as holding four vinyl records; the case does not include the records themselves.

At the 2024 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift won seven awards from 12 nominations. The victories raised her career total to 30 VMAs, tying Beyoncé’s total at that point. She also became the first artist to win Artist of the Year in consecutive years and took her fifth Video of the Year trophy, with “Fortnight” responsible for five of her seven wins.
The safest summary remains event-specific: Swift made history at the 2024 VMAs, but any claim about the current all-time VMA leader should be checked against results from ceremonies held after September 11, 2024.
