What is the official title of Scary Movie 6?
The studio markets the film simply as Scary Movie, not Scary Movie 6. “Scary Movie 6” remains the clearest search and fan shorthand because this is the sixth main entry in the series, but readers should know that Paramount’s official film page and promotional material use Scary Movie as the primary title.
That distinction matters when searching digital stores or physical-media listings: the movie may appear under Scary Movie (2026), Scary Movie, or Scary Movie 6, depending on the retailer.

Scary Movie 6 release date
The confirmed U.S. theatrical release date was June 5, 2026. Paramount’s official film information and franchise guide support that date. Some promotional posts and international listings have displayed June 4 or June 12, but those references should not replace the studio-confirmed U.S. date.
The film is no longer an upcoming release. Paramount currently lists Scary Movie as available digitally, including a separate listing for an extended cut. Digital storefront availability can change by country and over time, so check the retailer’s current listing before renting or buying.
Watch the official Scary Movie 6 trailer
Paramount Pictures released the official trailer on March 2, 2026. The trailer’s headline promotion highlights the return of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall.
The marketing presents the film as a broad contemporary horror spoof. Its targets include reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, origin stories, “elevated” horror, and films that lean heavily on the word “legacy.” The studio’s language supports describing the movie as a parody of modern franchise culture rather than as a direct remake of the original 2000 Scary Movie.

Plot and premise
The story brings back the original Core Four—Shorty, Ray, Cindy, and Brenda—26 years after the beginning of the franchise. They are once again targeted by a suspiciously familiar masked killer, drawing the characters into a new slasher scenario populated by younger figures and contemporary horror conventions.
The setup deliberately resembles the kind of legacy-sequel premise that has become common in horror: recognizable survivors return, a new generation enters the danger zone, and the past becomes part of the threat. The difference is that Scary Movie turns that structure into the joke. The official synopsis says that “no horror movie IP is safe,” but it is more accurate to describe the film as taking aim at a broad group of current horror and pop-culture ideas than to claim that every specific recent movie is spoofed.
Scary Movie 6 cast
The returning Core Four
- Marlon Wayans as Shorty
- Shawn Wayans as Ray
- Anna Faris as Cindy
- Regina Hall as Brenda
The reunion is the film’s central casting event. Marlon and Shawn Wayans return alongside Anna Faris and Regina Hall, restoring the combination most associated with the original trilogy’s main characters. The Wayans family’s return is also significant behind the camera, with several members involved in the screenplay.
Additional returning and supporting cast
Current cast listings also identify a mixture of returning franchise performers, newer performers, and cameo appearances. The broader credited cast includes:
- Dave Sheridan as Doofy/Ghostface
- Cheri Oteri as Gail Hailstorm
- Chris Elliott as Hanson
- Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze
- Lochlyn Munro as Greg
- Kim Wayans as Nurse Ratchett
- Heidi Gardner
- Sydney Park
- Olivia Rose Keegan
- Savannah Lee Nassif
- Cameron Scott Roberts
- Gregg Wayans
- Damon Wayans Jr.
- Teyana Taylor
- Kenan Thompson
- Anthony Anderson
- Carmen Electra
Cast databases do not always agree on whether a performer is being credited for a major role, a cameo, or a character whose name has not been fully disclosed. The four-person Wayans–Faris–Hall reunion is therefore the safest headline cast claim; the additional names should be treated as the broader credited ensemble.
Director, writers, and production
Michael Tiddes directed Scary Movie. The screenplay is credited to:
- Marlon Wayans
- Shawn Wayans
- Keenen Ivory Wayans
- Craig Wayans
- Rick Alvarez
The movie is associated with Paramount Pictures, Miramax, and Original Film, with Paramount handling distribution. The five-writer credit and the return of the Wayans family place the film closer to the franchise’s original creative identity than the installments that followed the early Wayans-led films.
Genre, rating, and runtime

This is a viewer advisory rather than a judgment on the film’s quality. The rating makes the movie unsuitable for children and worth checking before planning a family movie night.
The standard theatrical/runtime listing is 96 minutes. Runtime can differ between services or editions, particularly because Paramount also lists an extended-cut digital edition.

Is Scary Movie 6 on Paramount+?
Do not assume that the sixth film is already included with Paramount+. Paramount’s franchise guide confirms that the first five Scary Movie films are streaming on Paramount+, but the available official information does not establish a Paramount+ streaming date for the 2026 movie.
For a franchise marathon, the practical order is to watch films one through five on Paramount+ and then watch the 2026 installment through a current digital rental or purchase listing. That is a viewing recommendation based on present availability, not an officially required order from Paramount.

Will Scary Movie 6 be released on Blu-ray or DVD?
Current home-media evidence points to standard Blu-ray and DVD editions, including listings associated with the extended cut. The most useful consumer search phrase is “Scary Movie 6 Blu-ray”, even though the official title is simply Scary Movie.
Before buying, verify the exact edition, format, release date, region compatibility, and stock status. Marketplace listings can change, and a confirmed 4K UHD edition should not be assumed unless Paramount or a current retailer product page specifically lists one.
For readers who prefer a disc, the Scary Movie 6 Blu-ray search path is the most directly supported option, but the exact retail edition should be checked before publication or purchase.
Should you watch the earlier Scary Movie films first?
You do not need to remember every plot detail to understand the new film’s basic parody setup. However, watching the first five entries can make the reunion, recurring characters, and franchise jokes easier to recognize.
- Scary Movie (2000)
- Scary Movie 2 (2001)
- Scary Movie 3 (2003)
- Scary Movie 4 (2006)
- Scary Movie 5 (2013)
- Scary Movie (2026), commonly called Scary Movie 6
The first five are currently identified by Paramount as streaming on Paramount+. The sixth film is currently listed digitally, but no official subscription-streaming date has been established for it.

The main point of continuity is not simply that the title returns. The film reunites the original central performers and uses their characters as part of a story about horror franchises looking backward while trying to launch something new. That gives the parody two subjects at once: the familiar masked-killer formula and the entertainment industry’s reliance on reboots, sequels, spin-offs, and nostalgia-driven “legacy” stories.
It is best approached as a new ensemble parody built around the franchise’s original survivors—not as a scene-for-scene continuation of the 2000 movie and not as a confirmed spoof of one specific horror title.
