Marvel currently lists two more Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 17, 2027. Neither had been released as of August 7, 2026, so their exact places in the in-universe timeline have not yet been established.

1. The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers is the first Marvel Studios film built around the combined superhero team. Nick Fury brings together Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rogers/Captain America, Thor, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, and Clint Barton/Hawkeye when Loki launches a threat against Earth.
The film establishes the basic Avengers dynamic: powerful heroes who do not initially trust or understand one another must become a functioning team. Loki’s invasion also connects the previously separate Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk storylines into one larger MCU conflict.

In Age of Ultron, Tony Stark’s attempt to create a global peacekeeping intelligence produces Ultron, an artificial intelligence that decides humanity itself is the problem. The Avengers must stop Ultron while dealing with tensions within the team and the consequences of their earlier battles.
The film introduces Wanda Maximoff and establishes story developments that lead directly into Captain America: Civil War. It also expands the team’s roster and explores the danger of allowing technology and security ambitions to outrun human judgment.

3. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Avengers: Infinity War brings the Avengers together with allies from across the MCU as Thanos seeks all six Infinity Stones. The conflict is no longer limited to one city or planet: it becomes a fight over the fate of the universe.

Although the film features a huge ensemble, it is also the first half of a continuous climax. Its ending sets up Avengers: Endgame, which follows the consequences directly. Marvel describes Infinity War as part of the MCU’s ten-year cinematic story.

4. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Avengers: Endgame begins with the surviving heroes responding to the events of Infinity War. They make a final attempt to reverse the catastrophe and defeat Thanos, bringing the central storyline of the Infinity Saga to its conclusion.
It is important not to describe the whole film as taking place in a single year. The opening follows Infinity War closely, but Endgame later includes a substantial time jump and moves through multiple points in the MCU timeline. For viewing purposes, Marvel’s official timeline still places it immediately after Infinity War.

Upcoming Avengers movies
Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on December 18, 2026. As of August 7, 2026, it had not been released, so its full story and definitive chronological position were not yet available. Marvel’s current listing names Joe and Anthony Russo as directors and identifies Robert Downey Jr. as part of the cast in a new role as Victor von Doom.
The current official title is Avengers: Doomsday. Some older Marvel web addresses may still contain the words “Kang Dynasty,” but that does not make the older title current.

Avengers: Secret Wars
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on December 17, 2027. Marvel’s current listing names Joe and Anthony Russo as director. Because the film had not been released as of August 7, 2026, its exact in-universe placement should not be presented as settled fact.

You do not need to watch the entire MCU to follow the four Avengers films. However, the following films provide the main character and plot setup.
Before The Avengers
- Iron Man
- The Incredible Hulk
- Iron Man 2
- Thor
- Captain America: The First Avenger
These are the main Phase One introductions leading into the first team-up. The most important characters to know are Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk, while Iron Man 2 and Thor provide additional setup for Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and the wider MCU.
Before Avengers: Age of Ultron
- The Avengers

- Thor: The Dark World
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy
The Avengers is the essential prerequisite. The other four films broaden the political, cosmic, and technological story threads that Age of Ultron continues.

Before Avengers: Endgame
At an absolute minimum, watch Avengers: Infinity War immediately beforehand. For the intended emotional and narrative payoff, watching the earlier MCU films is better: Endgame is designed as the culmination of the Infinity Saga’s central storyline rather than as a standalone adventure.
Best viewing order for a first-time viewer
If you want only the films with “Avengers” in the title, watch them in this order:
- The Avengers
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Avengers: Endgame
This order preserves the introductions, references, character development, and escalation intended by Marvel Studios. It is also the chronological order for the four released Avengers films, so there is no advantage to rearranging them.
If you are watching the wider MCU, do not treat this list as the complete Marvel timeline. The Avengers movies are major crossover chapters inside a much larger continuity. Disney+ distinguishes between an MCU Movie Timeline and an MCU Complete Timeline, which includes television series as well as films. Common mistakes about the Avengers movie order
“There are only four Avengers movies planned.”
That is outdated. Marvel currently lists Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars as upcoming theatrical films. They should not, however, be described as released movies until they are available.
“Infinity War came out in May 2018.”
The U.S. theatrical release date listed by Marvel is April 27, 2018. International release schedules can differ, which may explain why other dates appear elsewhere.

“Endgame came out in May 2019.”
Marvel lists the U.S. theatrical release as April 26, 2019. As with Infinity War, local release dates may vary by country.
“Chronological order is different from release order.”
That is not true for the four released Avengers films. Both orders are The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, then Endgame.
“The Avengers movies are the complete MCU timeline.”
They are not. They are four released crossover films within the wider MCU, which includes many additional movies and television series.
“Avengers: Doomsday is still called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
Marvel’s current movie page uses the title Avengers: Doomsday. An older URL may retain “avengers-kang-dynasty” in its web path, but the current official title is the one that should be used.
