Disney channels were temporarily blacked out on YouTube TV after Disney and Google failed to renew their distribution agreement before it expired on October 30, 2025. The dispute was resolved on November 14, 2025, when the companies announced a new multi-year agreement. Disney programming—including ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX, and National Geographic networks—then began returning to YouTube TV.
This was not a permanent removal of Disney programming from streaming. The blackout affected YouTube TV specifically, and restoration took place over the course of November 14–15, with the exact timing varying by channel and local market.
What happened between Disney and YouTube TV?
YouTube TV and The Walt Disney Company were negotiating a renewal of the agreement that allowed YouTube TV to carry Disney’s linear television networks and ABC-owned local stations. The existing contract expired late on October 30, 2025, before the companies reached a new deal.
As a result, Disney-owned programming disappeared from YouTube TV for a temporary period. The dispute involved the familiar economics of live television: carriage fees, channel packaging, and how much flexibility YouTube TV would have in offering or bundling networks.

The companies presented sharply different explanations:
- YouTube TV’s position: Disney’s proposed terms would have increased costs for subscribers and reduced YouTube TV’s flexibility in designing packages. YouTube TV also said Disney’s position could benefit Disney’s own live-TV offerings, including Hulu + Live TV and Fubo.
- Disney’s position: Google was refusing to pay fair market rates for Disney programming and was denying subscribers access to valuable sports, news, and entertainment channels, particularly ESPN and ABC.
Those are the parties’ public characterizations, not independently established findings about the other side’s motives. Neither company publicly disclosed the complete economic terms under negotiation, so the precise proposed fee increases, revenue shares, and other confidential provisions should not be treated as known facts.
Which Disney channels disappeared?
The affected programming portfolio was broad. Depending on the subscriber’s location and YouTube TV package, the blackout included:
- ABC and some ABC-owned local stations
- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, and other ESPN-related networks
- Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD
- Freeform
- FX, FXX, and FXM
- National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild
- ABC News Live
- Localish
- Other regional or language-specific Disney services
The impact on ABC was not identical for every viewer. ABC is delivered through local stations, and the station available in one market may differ from the station available in another. YouTube TV also indicated that local ABC stations would be brought back as quickly as possible after the agreement, rather than promising that every station would return at exactly the same moment.
How long did the YouTube TV blackout last?
The programming became unavailable beginning late on October 30, 2025, after the previous agreement expired. Disney and YouTube announced their replacement agreement on November 14, 2025, and channels began returning over that day and into November 15, depending on the network and market.
It is more accurate to describe the outage as lasting from late October 30 until restoration began on November 14–15 than to assign one exact duration to every channel. Local ABC stations, regional services, and individual channel feeds did not necessarily follow the same restoration schedule.
When did Disney channels return to YouTube TV?
Disney announced the new multi-year distribution agreement with YouTube TV on November 14, 2025. Disney said the full linear portfolio would be restored, including ESPN networks, ABC, Disney-branded channels, Freeform, FX networks, and National Geographic channels.

YouTube TV said subscribers should see ABC, ESPN, FX, and other Disney channels return during the day. It also said previous recordings and library availability would be restored as part of the process. Viewers who still could not see a channel immediately were likely dealing with the staged rollout or a local-market issue rather than a decision to exclude the network permanently.

YouTube TV offered a one-time $20 credit while the Disney programming was unavailable. Eligibility and the method of applying the credit depended on the subscriber’s account and the terms communicated by YouTube TV at the time.
The dispute also affected Disney movies and shows that had been available for purchase or rental through YouTube. However, existing purchases and rentals remained accessible. That distinction matters: a temporary loss of live channels did not mean that previously purchased or rented titles were erased from viewers’ libraries.
What changed under the new agreement?
The November agreement did more than restore the previous channel lineup. It also created additional distribution options involving Disney’s direct-to-consumer services.
Disney said ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer Unlimited Plan would be available to YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost, subject to the terms of the new arrangement. The agreement also gave YouTube options involving Disney streaming services such as Disney+ and Hulu, as well as future genre-oriented packages.

Subscribers should therefore check their current account notices and YouTube TV or Disney help information before assuming that a particular ESPN, Disney+, Hulu, or package benefit applies to them.
Was Disney permanently removed from streaming?
No. The headline describes a temporary carriage dispute involving one live-TV streaming service. Disney’s channels were pulled from YouTube TV, not from streaming as a whole, and they returned after the November 14 agreement.

Disney continued to operate its own direct-to-consumer services during the dispute. The issue was whether YouTube TV could continue distributing Disney’s traditional linear channels and ABC stations under a renewed contract.
What should YouTube TV viewers do now?
- Check the channel guide. Look for ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX, or the specific Disney network you were missing.
- Search your library. Previously recorded programs and library titles may require the YouTube TV app to refresh before they appear normally.
- Restart or update the app. Sign out and back in, update YouTube TV, or restart the streaming device if a restored channel is still missing.
- Verify the local ABC station. ABC availability depends on your market. A missing local affiliate is not necessarily evidence that the national agreement failed.
- Review account notices. The ESPN Unlimited benefit and any Disney-related package options may depend on the specific terms attached to your account.
- Contact YouTube TV support if the issue persists. Have your ZIP code, device model, and affected channel ready, especially if other Disney networks are working normally.
Should viewers switch to another live-TV service?
Once the agreement was reached, viewers who already wanted YouTube TV did not need to permanently purchase a different television service to regain Disney channels. The channels were restored under the new agreement.
During a future blackout, however, viewers may compare other services such as Hulu + Live TV or Fubo. That comparison needs to be made using current channel lineups, local-station availability, sports rights, regional restrictions, prices, promotional terms, and cancellation rules. No live-TV service is guaranteed to carry every Disney network in every market indefinitely, and a competing service may have its own distribution disputes.
Why these disputes keep happening
Traditional television networks still depend on broad distribution through cable, satellite, and live-TV streaming bundles. ESPN, ABC, and entertainment networks benefit from being easy for large audiences to find, while Disney is also building direct relationships with viewers through its streaming products.
YouTube TV, by contrast, is trying to control programming costs while offering a package that feels flexible and affordable. A large network group can make a renewal especially consequential: subscribers may value one channel, such as ESPN or their local ABC station, but the service may need to carry an entire portfolio under a single agreement.

The new deal appears to combine continued carriage of Disney’s linear networks with expanded integration or bundling options for Disney’s direct-to-consumer services. That is an interpretation of the announced structure, not a publicly stated explanation of the companies’ long-term strategy.
