The most reliable starting point is the airport group: ARRIVAL, DESTINATION, FLIGHT, and GATE. Once those are removed, the communication group becomes clearer, leaving a professional-athlete category and a playful farmers-themed group.
Connections asks you to divide 16 words into four groups of four. The groups may be based on direct meanings, common phrases, cultural associations, or wordplay. Hints come first below, followed by a clearly marked spoiler section with all four answers.
Hints for Connections #753 on July 3
Try these progressively more specific clues before looking at the solution:
- Yellow: These words describe ways people or organizations communicate, make contact, or deal with one another.
- Green: These are all items of information you might see on an airport departures or arrivals board.
- Blue: These details can appear in a professional athlete’s profile or statistics.
- Purple: Think of things associated with farmers. This is the most playful category and depends partly on cultural references and wordplay.

The complete groups and explanations appear below. Stop here if you are still solving.
Yellow: CORRESPONDENCE
CONTACT · DEALINGS · EXCHANGE · INTERACTION
These words all describe communication, contact, or dealings between people or groups. “Correspondence” is broader than simply written letters here: contact, an exchange, an interaction, and dealings can all describe the way parties communicate or conduct business with one another.
Green: AIRPORT BOARD INFO
ARRIVAL · DESTINATION · FLIGHT · GATE
This is the most concrete group in the puzzle. Airport information displays commonly identify a flight, its destination, whether it is an arrival or departure, and the relevant gate.
The category is not “words found only at an airport.” Instead, these are the kinds of details associated with airport departure and arrival boards.
Blue: PRO ATHLETE DATA
COLLEGE · NUMBER · POSITION · TEAM
A professional athlete’s profile may list the college they attended, their jersey number, playing position, and current or former team. These words can look tempting in other combinations, particularly NUMBER and POSITION, but together with COLLEGE and TEAM they form the intended sports-profile category.
Purple: FARMERS’ THINGS
ALMANAC · INSURANCE · MARKET · TAN
This is the deliberately whimsical group. ALMANAC points to the Farmers’ Almanac; INSURANCE can refer to farm insurance; MARKET evokes a farmers’ market; and TAN suggests working outdoors.

- Adhesive binding sturdy cardboard backing with easy page removal for durability and neatness.
- Full coverage 365 Day calendar with unique affirmations starting 12/31/2026.
- Jot down ideas and keep a running “to do” list of things you want to accomplish.
- Set reminders for yourself to motivate yourself to reach your goals.
Unlike the airport group, these four words do not share one narrow dictionary definition or a single grammatical pattern. The connection is a collection of associations with farmers, which is why this category is best saved for the end.
A practical solving path
- Lock in the airport terms first. ARRIVAL, DESTINATION, FLIGHT, and GATE create a strong, specific set. They are more tightly connected than the alternative possibilities involving NUMBER or POSITION.
- Look for interpersonal language among the remaining words. CONTACT, DEALINGS, EXCHANGE, and INTERACTION all describe communication or dealings. Once the airport words are removed, this group is much easier to see.
- Use the remaining eight words as a two-way split. COLLEGE, NUMBER, POSITION, and TEAM look like fields in an athlete biography or statistics page.
- Accept the broad wordplay in the final group. The remaining ALMANAC, INSURANCE, MARKET, and TAN point to farmers through a mix of named references, products or services, places, and an outdoor-work stereotype.
Why this puzzle can be tricky
The main trap is that NUMBER and POSITION can initially seem compatible with airport information. A flight has a number, and a gate has a position or location. That makes them plausible red herrings beside ARRIVAL, DESTINATION, FLIGHT, and GATE.

The purple category creates a second difficulty. The other groups have relatively recognizable structures: communication terms, airport-board fields, and athlete-profile data. FARMERS’ THINGS is intentionally looser. It asks you to connect ALMANAC, INSURANCE, MARKET, and TAN through associations rather than through a uniform phrase or technical category.
Rank #4

Contemporary coverage characterized this puzzle as hard, but any reported mistake count or solving score belongs to the individual publication that reported it—not to an independently verified universal difficulty rating. The more useful takeaway is that the puzzle’s difficulty comes from the airport red herrings and the broad final category.
