You cannot claim the January 2025 Apple TV+ free weekend today. Apple’s limited-time all-access preview ended on January 5, 2025. The official promotion ran from January 3 through January 5, 2025, although Apple’s social-media messaging emphasized January 4–5. It required an Apple ID—now called an Apple Account—and allowed viewers to watch Apple TV+ on supported devices without an Apple TV+ subscription during the promotional window.
As of August 12, 2026, the practical alternative is Apple’s currently advertised seven-day trial for eligible new subscribers. Check the terms shown at signup because trial eligibility, pricing, and renewal conditions can change.
What the January 2025 Apple TV+ offer was
Apple described the promotion as an “all-access pass” to Apple TV+, not as a permanent free tier or a normal ongoing free trial. During the promotional period, viewers could open the Apple TV app or Apple’s web player, sign in with an Apple ID, and stream Apple TV+ originals on supported devices.
The complete period stated in Apple’s December 30, 2024 announcement was January 3–5, 2025. That means both January 4 and January 5 were included. The reason many people remember the event as a January 4–5 offer is that Apple’s promotional video and social posts highlighted those dates. The official release provides the broader and more authoritative window.

How people accessed Apple TV+ during the free weekend
- Open the Apple TV app or visit Apple’s web experience. The app was available on Apple devices, many smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and computers. The web version was available at Apple’s TV website.
- Sign in with an Apple ID. Apple now labels this an Apple Account, but existing Apple ID email addresses or phone numbers and passwords continue to work.
- Choose a title and start watching. No paid Apple TV+ subscription was required during the January 3–5 preview. Access ended when the promotional period ended.
Apple’s announcement promoted shows and films including Silo, Shrinking, Bad Sisters, Presumed Innocent, Slow Horses, Disclaimer, The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, Severance, Dark Matter, For All Mankind, Foundation, Fly Me to the Moon, The Family Plan, Wolfs, and The Instigators. Availability of individual titles could vary by country or region.
Which devices supported the promotion?
Apple said the preview was available on any device where Apple TV+ was available. Supported categories included:
- iPhone and iPad
- Mac computers
- Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD
- Apple Vision Pro
- Supported Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL, and other smart TVs
- Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices
- Chromecast with Google TV
- PlayStation and Xbox consoles
- A computer web browser through Apple’s online TV experience
Compatibility was not necessarily identical across every model, country, or app version. A device needed to support the Apple TV app or the relevant web experience at the time.

- Select Sign In.
- Enter the Apple Account email address or phone number and password.
Some televisions and streaming devices offered QR-code sign-in instead. The exact labels could differ by manufacturer and app version.
Signing in on Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD
On an Apple TV box, go to Settings > Users and Accounts, then add or select a user. Apple supports manual sign-in and, on compatible setups, sign-in through a nearby Apple device.
Can you still get that free Apple TV+ weekend?
No. The January 2025 event was a one-time, limited-duration preview. It did not convert into a permanent free subscription, and there is no legitimate way to activate it retroactively in 2026.
Do not confuse the expired weekend preview with Apple’s separate device-purchase promotion. Apple also announced a limited-time offer of three months of Apple TV+ for customers who purchased and activated a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, or Mac. That was a different offer with its own eligibility, activation, Family Sharing, renewal, and cancellation rules. Buying one of those devices now does not recreate the January 2025 free weekend.

What can you use instead now?
Apple’s current seven-day trial
Apple’s current service page advertises a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Eligibility is determined at signup, and the displayed terms should be treated as controlling. Before confirming, check:
- whether the account qualifies as a new subscriber;
- the price after the trial ends;
- the date and method of renewal;
- any regional restrictions or bundle conditions; and
- the cancellation instructions shown by Apple.
A free trial is different from the January 2025 all-access preview: it is an individual subscription offer and may automatically renew into a paid plan unless canceled according to Apple’s terms.
Watching on a television
If you already own a compatible smart TV, Roku, Fire TV device, game console, or Chromecast with Google TV, you may not need additional hardware. Check whether your particular model supports the Apple TV app before buying anything.
For viewers who want a dedicated television streaming box, an Apple TV 4K is one supported way to access the Apple TV app. It is equipment for watching the service—not a way to unlock the expired January 2025 promotion. A compatible Roku or Amazon Fire TV device may also work, but support can vary by model and region.

Apple ID versus Apple Account
Apple renamed Apple ID to Apple Account in its current support documentation. The change does not require existing users to create a different login: the same email address or phone number and password remain usable for signing in.
Therefore, instructions or articles referring to an “Apple ID” and current Apple instructions referring to an “Apple Account” are describing the same account credentials for this purpose.
What not to rely on
- Old January 2025 coupon pages: A page that still presents the weekend as claimable is outdated.
- Unofficial streams: Pirated streams and authentication-bypass methods are neither legitimate nor necessary.
- Unauthorized account sharing: Use Apple’s permitted account and Family Sharing features rather than sharing credentials outside the applicable rules.
- Unrelated PC utilities: Computer-optimization or driver software does not provide Apple TV+ access.
- Cloud livestreaming services: A service designed to broadcast a user’s own recordings to YouTube does not unlock or replace Apple TV+.

Did the January 2025 promotion require a credit card?
