The simplest legitimate way to watch Apple TV at no charge is Apple’s seven-day trial. You need an Apple Account and may need to add a payment method; unless you cancel in time, the subscription renews at the then-current monthly price, which Apple’s U.S. service page currently lists as $12.99.
There is no permanent, universal free tier for the full Apple TV catalog. Longer access is possible through qualifying offers: three months with an eligible new Apple device, Apple TV access included with the Apple Music Student Plan, an Apple One trial, or a benefit attached to certain U.S. T-Mobile plans. Apple now calls the service Apple TV, although many people still refer to it as Apple TV+.
The fastest option: Apple’s seven-day trial
- Open the Apple TV app or visit Apple’s official television service page.
- Sign in with your Apple Account or create one.
- Select the displayed free-trial offer.
- Add or confirm a valid payment method if Apple requests one.
- Record the renewal date immediately.
Apple’s current U.S. offer describes seven days free, followed by a $12.99-per-month subscription. Pricing, trial availability and eligibility can vary by country, account and promotion, so use the price and renewal date shown on your own checkout screen as the final authority.
To avoid a charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Apple’s media-services terms also warn that a canceled free trial cannot be reactivated. Do not assume that canceling immediately will preserve access until the last minute: some promotions end access as soon as they are canceled. Check the cancellation screen and the terms for the specific offer.

All legitimate ways to get Apple TV at no additional charge
1. Three months with an eligible new Apple device
Apple’s current U.S. promotional terms offer three months of Apple TV when you buy an eligible new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller. The offer must generally be claimed in the Apple TV app within three months after you first set up the device, using the Apple Account associated with it.
If you are already shopping for a streaming box, an Apple TV 4K may be relevant to this offer, but check the current Apple promotion and the specific retailer listing before buying. The subscription benefit does not make the device free, and not every model or listing necessarily qualifies.
Important restrictions apply:
- The offer is for an eligible new device and is available only for a limited time.
- It is not available to current Apple TV subscribers.
- It cannot be combined with Apple One or another Apple TV trial or offer.
- Only one offer is available per Family Sharing group.
- The resulting subscription can be shared with up to five additional family members through Family Sharing.
- After three months, it automatically renews at $12.99 per month in the current U.S. terms, or at the then-current price.
- Canceling during the free period ends access immediately and forfeits the unused portion of the offer.
This is best understood as three months of Apple TV included with an eligible purchase, not a way to obtain the service without spending money.
2. Apple Music Student Plan
Verified college students can receive Apple TV access at no additional charge with the Apple Music Student Plan. Apple’s current U.S. page lists that plan at $6.99 per month after any applicable introductory period. Apple Music itself is not free indefinitely; Apple TV is included as part of the paid student bundle.

So, if you want Apple Music as well, this can be a good ongoing-value option. If you want only Apple TV and do not want to pay for Apple Music, calling the student plan “completely free” would be misleading—the standard seven-day Apple TV trial is the more accurate choice.
3. Apple One’s one-month trial
Apple One bundles Apple TV with services such as Apple Music, Apple Arcade and iCloud+. Apple’s materials state that an Apple One trial can last one month for services you do not already have.
This can make sense if you want several Apple services, not merely the television catalog. It is not a permanent free method: Apple One becomes a paid bundle after the trial. The Apple TV portion may also be unavailable as a new trial if you already subscribe to Apple TV, and Apple’s terms say subscription trials and offers generally cannot be combined. An existing free offer may expire while you are using Apple One.

T-Mobile currently advertises Apple TV benefits for qualifying U.S. wireless customers. Depending on the exact plan and account, the benefit may provide Apple TV at no additional charge while you keep the qualifying plan, six months “on us,” or a $3-per-month benefit.

This is a carrier-plan benefit rather than a free service in the absolute sense. Eligibility depends on your exact T-Mobile plan, account status and the promotion displayed when you redeem it. T-Mobile says features and promotions can change or be discontinued, so check your account rather than relying on an old list of qualifying plans.
T-Mobile’s FAQ says Apple TV may renew at $12.99 per month, or the then-current price, after a promotional period unless you cancel. The T-Mobile promotion and Apple’s direct trial cannot be active simultaneously. If you have already started Apple’s trial, T-Mobile says you may wait until that trial ends before activating the carrier benefit.

- Redeem the offer. Do not cancel before confirming that the trial or promotion has actually started.
- Write down the renewal date. Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the subscription screen.
- Cancel from subscription management. On an Apple device, the usual path is Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Apple TV > Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription. Labels can vary by device, region and billing provider.
- Cancel at least 24 hours early. Apple’s terms use that minimum to avoid renewal, but an earlier cancellation is safer.
- Check the result. Confirm that the subscription shows an expiration date or cancellation status, and keep the confirmation.
For a device promotion, be especially careful: Apple’s current terms say canceling during the three-month free period ends access immediately. The same behavior should not automatically be assumed for every other offer, so read the cancellation notice presented for your promotion.

What does not count as a reliable free method?
- Unauthorized streaming websites: They may carry copyright, malware, privacy and security risks and are not an official way to access Apple TV.
- Strangers’ shared passwords: Access can disappear without warning and may violate account or service rules.
- VPN workarounds: A VPN does not create eligibility for a trial and can conflict with regional availability or service terms.
- Unverified coupon codes: Do not treat a code as genuine until it appears in an official Apple, carrier or authorized-retailer redemption flow.
- The free Apple TV app: The app costs nothing to download, but that does not mean the subscription catalog is free.
Apple has occasionally run limited promotional events, including a free-access weekend at the beginning of 2025. A past event is not evidence of an active offer now; use a current Apple announcement before promising a new free weekend.
Which option should you choose?
- Want a quick sample? Use the seven-day Apple TV trial and set a cancellation reminder.
- Already buying an Apple device? Check whether the specific new device qualifies for three months. Do not buy hardware solely for a short streaming promotion unless the purchase already makes sense.
- Are you a verified student? Choose the Apple Music Student Plan only if Apple Music’s other benefits justify its monthly cost.
- Want several Apple services? Compare Apple One’s total price with the separate subscriptions you would otherwise pay for.
- Already a T-Mobile customer? Sign in and check the benefit attached to your exact plan before starting Apple’s direct trial.
Bottom line on “completely free” Apple TV
For most people, Apple’s seven-day trial is the only broadly available route that is genuinely free for a short period without buying another product or service. Students, eligible new-device buyers and some T-Mobile customers can receive longer access, but each route has a condition: a paid student bundle, a hardware purchase, or a qualifying wireless plan. Apple One is similarly a paid bundle after its introductory month.
Redeem only through the Apple TV app, Apple’s official website, Apple One, Apple Music, or an eligible carrier account. Note the renewal date, cancel early enough, and verify whether cancellation ends access immediately for the particular offer.

Can I get Apple TV free with Apple Music?
Apple specifically documents Apple TV access with the Apple Music Student Plan. Ordinary Apple Music Individual and Family plans should not be assumed to include Apple TV.
Can I share free Apple TV access with my family?
