Andrew Huberman was not found guilty of a crime or professional violation. The accusation comes from a March 25, 2024 investigation by New York Magazine and Intelligencer, which reported that several women who dated the Stanford neuroscientist described overlapping relationships, alleged deception, and behavior they experienced as controlling, angry, or erratic.
The investigation contrasted those accounts with Huberman’s carefully managed public image as a disciplined neuroscientist and wellness communicator. His spokesperson disputed or qualified several details, including claims involving HPV, children, IVF, and descriptions of his conduct. The reporting did not establish that Huberman transmitted HPV, commit academic misconduct, or violate a criminal law.
The short answer
The phrase “bizarre behavior” refers to the framing of coverage surrounding the 2024 investigation, not to a medical or legal finding. The central story was a reported gap between Andrew Huberman’s public message—built around self-control, discipline, health, and scientific authority—and former partners’ accounts of his private relationships.
According to Kerry Howley’s New York Magazine investigation, a woman identified by the pseudonym Sarah and several other women said Huberman maintained relationships with multiple women at the same time. Some said they believed they were in exclusive, or effectively monogamous, relationships. The article described texts, emails, voice recordings, and relationship timelines that the women used to compare their accounts.

Those materials were reported as part of the magazine’s journalism; the dossier does not independently authenticate every item or establish that every allegation was true. The responsible description is therefore that the investigation reported allegations and supporting material—not that it proved all of the claims.
Who Andrew Huberman is
Stanford’s official profile identifies Andrew D. Huberman as a tenured associate professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine and director of the Huberman Lab. His listed academic interests include visual perception, neural development, stress and resilience, and neural plasticity. Stanford pages list his appointments from 2016 onward.
Huberman also hosts the Huberman Lab podcast, which presents itself as a neuroscience program focused on science-based tools for everyday life. The podcast platform remained active in the research snapshot, including an episode dated July 27, 2026. His academic position and public media platform are important context, but neither one resolves the private relationship allegations reported by the magazine.
What the New York Magazine investigation reported
Overlapping relationships and alleged deception
The most consequential allegation was that Huberman dated several women simultaneously without each woman knowing the full extent of the others’ relationships. Former partners told the magazine that he presented himself differently to different women and made commitments that were inconsistent with his other relationships.
The reported accounts concerned more than the existence of multiple relationships. The women described what they viewed as concealment, misleading assurances, and a mismatch between the relationship they believed they were participating in and the broader situation. Whether every timeline was complete or accurate remains unresolved.

Accounts of controlling or erratic conduct
Former partners characterized some of Huberman’s behavior as controlling, manipulative, intense, angry, or erratic. The article also reported allegations that he repeatedly revisited or criticized a partner’s earlier romantic and reproductive decisions.
These are descriptions attributed to former partners, not clinical diagnoses or findings by a court. There is no responsible basis in the reviewed material for diagnosing Huberman with narcissism, sociopathy, or another mental-health condition.
IVF and discussions about having children
The investigation discussed conversations and procedures involving in vitro fertilization and the creation of embryos involving Huberman and Sarah. Huberman’s spokesperson disputed the characterization that the couple had simply “decided to have children,” saying instead that they had decided to create embryos through IVF.
That distinction should remain attributed to the spokesperson. It does not, by itself, establish what either person understood the relationship or reproductive plan to mean at the time.
The HPV allegation and what it does not prove
The article also described an allegation involving a woman who tested positive for a high-risk HPV strain during the period covered by the reporting. Her account connected the possibility of infection to unprotected sex and to what she believed were Huberman’s overlapping relationships.

This is not the same as proof that Huberman transmitted HPV. A positive HPV test generally cannot, by itself, establish when the infection was acquired or identify its source. Huberman’s spokesperson told New York Magazine that Huberman had never tested positive for HPV. The available reporting did not establish a transmission event, and it should not be rewritten as a claim that he “gave” someone HPV.
What evidence did the story describe?
The investigation was based on interviews with Sarah and other women, along with documentary material the women provided or described, including:
- text messages;
- emails;
- voice recordings; and
- chronologies or timelines used to compare the women’s accounts.
That combination can give investigative reporters a way to test whether separate accounts overlap in dates, statements, and commitments. It still does not mean that every document has been independently authenticated in a public proceeding, that every exchange has been presented in full context, or that every allegation has been legally proved.
The strongest accurate formulation is that the magazine reported multiple accounts and documentary material that it considered relevant to those accounts. Readers should distinguish between what the article documented as having been reported, what former partners alleged, and what remains unverified or disputed.
How Huberman and his representatives responded
Huberman did not agree to be interviewed for the New York Magazine article. The story included responses from a spokesperson, who denied or disputed several specific claims.

Among other points, the spokesperson said Huberman had never tested positive for HPV, challenged aspects of the descriptions of his behavior, and qualified the account of discussions about having children by describing the decision as one to create embryos through IVF. The spokesperson also disputed some characterizations involving past relationships and statements attributed to Huberman.

| Did Huberman’s representatives contest claims? | Yes. His spokesperson disputed or qualified several allegations, including the HPV and IVF-related descriptions. |
| Did Huberman transmit HPV? | The available reporting does not establish that. A positive test alone cannot identify the timing or source of infection, and his spokesperson said he had never tested positive. |
| Was he charged with a crime or found liable? | No criminal conviction, court finding, or other adjudication arising from these relationship allegations was identified in the reviewed sources. |

Why the story attracted so much attention
Huberman’s public platform is built around the authority of science and the practical value of disciplined behavior. His episodes commonly present routines, health practices, and behavioral strategies as tools for improving focus, resilience, sleep, and performance. That does not make a private relationship allegation a scientific finding, but it explains why former partners’ descriptions of alleged secrecy, anger, or inconsistency were seen as sharply at odds with his public image.
The controversy therefore raises two separate questions that should not be collapsed into one:
- What happened in the relationships? The answer remains a matter of competing accounts, reported documentary material, and unresolved factual disputes.
- What does the reporting say about his science? The investigation did not establish research fraud, fabricated data, or invalid peer-reviewed findings. Questions about personal credibility may affect how some audiences evaluate his advice, but that is different from proving that his scientific work is unsound.
A public figure can retain an academic appointment and an active podcast while serious allegations remain disputed. Continued institutional listing is evidence of current status, not a finding that every allegation is false. Conversely, the existence of a detailed investigation is not proof that every allegation is true.

How to describe the controversy accurately
Several common shortcuts go beyond the available evidence:
- Do not state that Huberman transmitted HPV. The reporting did not prove that.
- Do not describe him as having been convicted of abuse or another crime. No such adjudication was identified.
- Do not turn former partners’ descriptions into a clinical diagnosis.
- Do not call the story proof of academic misconduct or proof that Huberman’s research is invalid.
- Do not present the spokesperson’s account of IVF as an independently established description of the couple’s intentions.
- Do not treat later, broad comments about the controversy as precise admissions without checking the complete recording or transcript.
The clearest summary is also the most limited: a major 2024 investigation reported that several former partners accused Huberman of concealing overlapping relationships and behaving in ways they experienced as controlling or erratic. His representatives disputed important details, and the available record does not establish criminal wrongdoing, HPV transmission, or academic misconduct.
Read the primary reporting
Readers who want to evaluate the central account for themselves can read the original investigation in New York Magazine. The Guardian provided contemporaneous summary coverage, including the spokesperson’s HPV denial and IVF qualification. The original article remains the appropriate starting point for separating the women’s allegations, the reported documentary material, and the response from Huberman’s representative.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was Andrew Huberman found guilty of misconduct?
No. The reviewed reporting identified no criminal conviction, court finding, or verified university sanction arising from the relationship allegations. The 2024 investigation reported allegations and disputed accounts; it was not a legal adjudication.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Did Andrew Huberman give a former partner HPV?
The available reporting does not establish that. It described a former partner’s positive test for a high-risk HPV strain and her concern about possible exposure through overlapping relationships. A positive test alone cannot establish when or from whom HPV was acquired. Huberman’s spokesperson said he had never tested positive for HPV.
Did the allegations concern Huberman’s scientific research?
Primarily, no. The investigation focused on private relationships and the contrast between those allegations and Huberman’s public image. It did not establish research misconduct or invalidate his peer-reviewed scientific work.
Is Andrew Huberman still associated with Stanford and the Huberman Lab podcast?
As of August 12, 2026, Stanford’s official pages still listed him as a tenured associate professor and Huberman Lab director. The official podcast site also showed continuing episodes, including one dated July 27, 2026.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Andrew Huberman controversy stems from a March 2024 New York Magazine investigation reporting former partners’ allegations of concealed overlapping relationships and controlling or erratic behavior. Huberman’s representatives disputed or qualified several details. The story should be understood as investigative reporting about allegations and public-image contradictions—not as proof of criminal conduct, HPV transmission, a mental-health diagnosis, or academic misconduct.
