Her response was visible but brief: she looked toward the crowd and field with an expression that appeared surprised, skeptical, or bemused before continuing to watch the game. There is no verified statement from Swift explaining what she felt or thought in that moment.
What happened when Taylor Swift appeared on screen?
Swift attended Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to support her partner, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. During the first quarter, the stadium showed her on its video board. The reaction from the crowd included loud booing, and the moment was captured in broadcast and spectator footage.
Reports described Swift as giving a side-eye and wrinkling her nose when she realized the boos were directed at her. In other views of the footage, she appears to look around as if asking what was happening, then responds with a skeptical or faintly amused expression. It is reasonable to describe her as appearing surprised and composed. It is not possible to establish from her facial expression alone whether she was angry, embarrassed, amused, or indifferent.
The often-repeated claim that Swift “laughed off” the boos is an interpretation of the footage, not a confirmed statement from her. No reliable direct quote from Swift about the incident was identified in the reporting reviewed.

Why was Taylor Swift booed?
The clearest explanation is the game’s setting. Super Bowl LIX was played between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Caesars Superdome crowd was described as heavily pro-Philadelphia. Swift was publicly associated with Kansas City because of Kelce, making her a highly visible supporter of the opposing team.
The Eagles also won decisively, defeating the Chiefs 40–22. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl LIX MVP. In that environment, a famous Chiefs supporter appearing on the stadium screen was likely to receive a hostile reaction from at least part of the audience simply because of the rivalry.
Politics may have intensified the reaction for some spectators. Swift endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, while Donald Trump attended the game and had previously been involved in the political conflict surrounding Swift. But the available evidence does not establish that the boos came from Trump supporters, nor does it show that politics was the sole reason for the crowd’s response.

The most accurate summary is that a largely pro-Eagles crowd booed a high-profile Chiefs supporter, with political hostility toward Swift potentially adding to the moment for some people. Assigning one motive to every person who booed goes beyond the evidence.

Trump commented on the incident after the game in posts on Truth Social. Coverage reported that he wrote: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift.”
Trump’s post turned a short stadium reaction into a larger political and celebrity-news story. Three points should be kept separate: Swift was booed when she appeared on the screen; Trump commented on that reaction afterward; and Trump presented or implied a political explanation for it. The first two are reported events. Trump’s explanation is his interpretation, not an independently verified account of the crowd’s collective motives.
The sports context behind the viral moment
Swift’s attendance was part of the continuing public attention around her relationship with Kelce and her appearances at Chiefs games. Super Bowl LIX was her second consecutive Super Bowl appearance supporting him.
Her presence became a storyline alongside the game itself, but the football result supplied the immediate context for the crowd reaction. The Eagles were playing in a stadium filled largely with Philadelphia supporters, while the Chiefs were attempting to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Philadelphia’s 40–22 victory ended that attempt.
That combination—a championship game, a strongly partisan home-like crowd, a prominent celebrity linked to the opposing team, and an already politically polarizing public figure—helped make a few seconds of stadium footage unusually newsworthy.

What the footage does—and does not—prove
- It does show: Swift being displayed on the stadium video board and a negative crowd reaction that included booing.
- It does show: Swift reacting with a facial expression that can reasonably be described as surprised, skeptical, or bemused.
- It does not show: a verified statement explaining her private feelings.
- It does not establish: what percentage of the crowd was booing or whether the reaction was primarily political or sports-related.
- It does not prove: that all—or a measurable portion—of the boos came from Trump supporters.
Reports and social-media posts have disagreed about the precise loudness, composition, or broadcast mixing of the crowd. Those details should not be treated as settled without stronger primary evidence. The basic event, however, is clear: Swift was shown on screen, the crowd booed, and she appeared to acknowledge the reaction without making a public statement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the moment spread so quickly
The incident combined several established media storylines in one short clip: Swift’s global celebrity, Kelce’s championship-game appearance, the Chiefs–Eagles rivalry, the Chiefs’ loss, and the political dispute involving Swift and Trump. Because her reaction was nonverbal, viewers also filled in the meaning of her expression, producing competing descriptions such as “shocked,” “angry,” “confused,” or “laughing it off.”
Those labels should be treated cautiously. A video can document a gesture and a crowd response, but it cannot reliably reveal a person’s private emotional state. The strongest account stays with what can be observed and distinguishes it from interpretation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Taylor Swift make a statement about being booed at the 2025 Super Bowl?
No verified direct statement from Swift specifically addressing the booing was identified in the reporting reviewed. The available evidence centers on her brief nonverbal reaction in the stadium.
Why did the Super Bowl crowd boo Taylor Swift?
The clearest explanation is the crowd’s strong support for the Philadelphia Eagles while Swift was associated with the opposing Kansas City Chiefs through Travis Kelce. Political hostility may have contributed for some spectators, but the evidence does not establish one motive for everyone who booed.
Was Taylor Swift booed by Donald Trump supporters?
That claim was part of the political commentary afterward, but it was not independently established. Trump commented on the booing and connected it to the political conflict involving Swift, but no reliable evidence shows that the crowd—or a measured percentage of it—was made up of his supporters.
Did Taylor Swift laugh off the boos?
Some observers interpreted her expression as a brief laugh or an attempt to brush off the moment. The footage more securely supports describing her as appearing surprised, skeptical, or bemused; it does not prove exactly what she felt.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl LIX MVP.
The Bottom Line
Taylor Swift was booed when she appeared on the stadium screen during Super Bowl LIX, but she did not publicly explain the moment. The setting—a strongly pro-Eagles crowd watching a prominent Chiefs supporter—offers the clearest context. Politics may have amplified the reaction for some people, yet claims that the boos were entirely political or specifically came from Trump supporters are not supported by the available evidence.
