Short answer: If you want to follow the manga-derived story of One Piece, skip the 94 pure-filler episodes listed below. They account for roughly 8% of the 1,168 episodes classified by the current episode guide. Do not automatically skip mixed canon/filler episodes, especially episode 61, or anime-canon episodes that bridge important transitions.

This is a strict, manga-faithful skip list—not a list of every recap, crossover, film tie-in, or episode some fans consider slow. Some filler, particularly the G-8 Arc, is widely regarded as worth watching even though it is not manga canon.

Complete One Piece filler list

These are the pure-filler episodes that can be skipped without removing the manga-derived main storyline, according to the classification used for this guide:

54–60, 98–99, 102, 131–143, 196–206, 220–225, 279–283, 291–292, 303, 317–319, 326–336, 382–384, 406–407, 426–429, 457–458, 492, 542, 575–578, 590, 626–627, 747–750, 780–782, 895–896, 907, and 1029–1030.

Episode numbers are the safest way to use the list because streaming services sometimes group specials, recaps, or regional releases differently.

Every pure-filler range, explained

Episodes Material Can you skip them?
54–60 Warship Island and Apis material Yes. Episode 61 is mixed canon/filler, so stop the skip at episode 60.
98–99 Alabasta-side anime-original episodes Yes. They add an anime-original detour around the Alabasta story.
102 Another Alabasta-side anime-original episode Yes.
131–143 Post-Alabasta, Goat Island, and Ruluka Island material Yes for a manga-faithful watch. Episodes 131–135 are often recommended as optional viewing.
196–206 G-8 Arc Yes for plot efficiency, although this is one of the most popular filler arcs and is worth considering.
220–225 Ocean’s Dream and Foxy-related anime-original material Yes. Episode 226 is mixed, not pure filler.
279–283 Straw Hat backstory recap and original material Yes if you have already seen the relevant backstories and want to maintain the main-story pace.
291–292 Boss Luffy historical specials Yes. They are alternate-format comedy specials rather than manga-story episodes.
303 Boss Luffy historical special Yes.
317–319 Post-Enies Lobby anime-original material Yes. Episode 320 is classified as manga canon.
326–336 Ice Hunter Arc and Chopperman material Yes. This is a self-contained anime-original section.
382–384 Spa Island Arc Yes.
406–407 Boss Luffy historical specials Yes. Watch only if you enjoy the alternate historical-comedy format.
426–429 Little East Blue Arc Yes. It is an anime-original pre-film detour.
457–458 Marineford retrospective episodes Yes if you do not need an anime recap of the preceding story.
492 One Piece/Toriko crossover Yes. It is not part of the manga storyline.
542 Crossover-style anime-original episode Yes.
575–578 Z’s Ambition Arc Yes. It is a tie-in to One Piece Film: Z and is most relevant if you want film-related material.
590 Crossover episode Yes.
626–627 Caesar Retrieval material Yes. Episode 628 is mixed canon/filler, so do not extend the skip through it automatically.
747–750 Silver Mine Arc Yes. It is an anime-original adventure.
780–782 Marine Rookie Arc Yes.
895–896 Cidre Guild Arc Yes. These episodes tie into One Piece: Stampede.
907 20th-anniversary Romance Dawn special Yes. It is a celebratory retelling rather than a required continuation of the weekly story.
1029–1030 Uta-related anime-original episodes Yes for the main plot. They are tied to One Piece Film: Red and may be worthwhile before or alongside that film.

What the four filler classifications mean

“Filler” is not one single category in the underlying guide. It separates the anime into four groups:

  • Manga canon: Episodes primarily adapting material from Eiichiro Oda’s manga.
  • Mixed canon/filler: Episodes that combine manga-derived scenes, story movement, or details with anime-original content.
  • Anime canon: Anime-original episodes that the guide treats as relevant to the anime’s continuity or character progression, even though they are not direct manga adaptations.
  • Pure filler: Episodes or arcs that can be removed without cutting the manga-derived plot.

That distinction is why this guide does not tell first-time viewers to skip every episode labeled “anime canon,” every recap, or every film promotion. The pure-filler list is the cleanest answer to “Which episodes can I skip?”

Episodes you should not skip automatically

The following episodes are classified as mixed canon/filler rather than pure filler:

45–47, 61, 68–69, 101, 226, 354, 421, 489, 520, 574, 625, 628, 633, 653, 657, 679, 690, 731, 738, 751, 777–778, 789, 803, 807, 878–879, 881–885, 887–890, 924, 988–989, and 991.

For a first watch, the practical rule is to watch these episodes. You may encounter recap material or anime-original padding, but skipping the entire episode can also remove a manga-derived scene or a transition into the next story section.

Important examples: Episode 61 follows the pure-filler Warship Island material but is mixed, so the safe viewing order is to skip 54–60 and resume with 61. Likewise, episode 226 follows the pure-filler 220–225 run and should not be treated as part of that skip range. Episode 628 is mixed after the pure-filler Caesar Retrieval episodes 626–627.

Anime-canon episodes

The guide identifies these episodes as anime canon:

50–51, 93, 213–216, 418–420, 453–456, 497–499, 506, 737, 775, and 1084.

These are optional if your only objective is to move through the manga storyline as quickly as possible. However, they can be useful in transition-heavy portions of the anime, and a beginner should not remove them automatically without checking what surrounds them. “Anime canon” means “not directly adapted from the manga,” not necessarily “irrelevant” or “poorly made.”

The best One Piece filler worth watching

Safe to skip does not mean bad. Filler can offer character comedy, contained adventures, or film setup that some viewers prefer not to miss.

1. G-8 Arc — episodes 196–206

This is the strongest recommendation for viewers who normally skip filler. The Straw Hats become trapped at a heavily defended Marine base, creating a compact situation built around disguises, improvisation, and crew interplay. It does not advance the manga plot, but it gives the ensemble room to interact in a way many fans find unusually effective for anime-original material.

2. Post-Alabasta episodes 131–135

These episodes are part of the larger pure-filler block 131–143, but the early Post-Alabasta stories are frequently singled out as enjoyable optional viewing. They focus more on the crew’s personalities and relationships than on a major external conflict. Skip the entire block for efficiency, or sample 131–135 if you want a gentler character-driven interlude after Alabasta.

3. Boss Luffy specials

Episodes 291–292, 303, and 406–407 present the Straw Hats in an alternate historical-comedy setting. They have no role in the main continuity, but they can be fun if you enjoy parody and do not mind leaving the standard adventure format.

4. Film-related episodes

The Z’s Ambition episodes 575–578, Cidre Guild episodes 895–896, and Uta-related episodes 1029–1030 are most useful to viewers who also plan to watch One Piece Film: Z, One Piece: Stampede, or One Piece Film: Red, respectively. They remain optional: watching the associated film is not required to understand the main series, and the tie-in episodes are not required to follow the manga storyline.

A practical viewing plan

Strict manga-faithful watch

  1. Watch every episode except the pure-filler ranges in the complete list.
  2. Watch mixed canon/filler episodes, including 61, 226, and 628.
  3. Treat anime-canon episodes as optional only after checking their position in the surrounding arc.
  4. Do not skip an episode solely because it is a recap, crossover, or film tie-in if you want the complete anime experience.

Balanced watch

  1. Skip the full pure-filler list.
  2. Add G-8 episodes 196–206.
  3. Consider Post-Alabasta episodes 131–135.
  4. Add selected Boss Luffy specials if you enjoy comedy.
  5. Watch film-related episodes only when they match your movie plans.

Complete anime watch

Watch everything in numerical order. This is the right option if you want all anime-original stories, recaps, crossovers, alternate-format specials, and movie tie-ins. The filler list is then a reference for context rather than a set of instructions.

What to do with the newest episodes

The verified filler database used for this article was updated on June 28, 2026 and classifies episodes through 1168. It reports 1,168 classified episodes, including 94 pure-filler episodes, 43 mixed canon/filler episodes, and 21 anime-canon episodes. The 94 pure-filler episodes represent approximately 8% of that classified run.

The anime returned to Crunchyroll with the Elbaph Arc on April 5, 2026, according to Toei Animation USA. At the research timestamp of August 11, 2026, episode 1173 was the latest released episode in the researched schedule, while episode 1174 was scheduled for August 16, 2026. Episodes 1169–1173 had not yet received a filler classification from the main database.

Do not extend the 94-episode total or invent a filler label for those newer episodes. The safest approach is to treat the ongoing Elbaph episodes as part of the current main story and watch them until a reliable episode-by-episode classification is published. The official One Piece episode information identifies Elbaph as an active anime arc, while current arc documentation identifies it as a manga-derived story section.

Where to watch

Availability depends on territory, licensing windows, subscription tier, and how far a service’s episode catalog has progressed. Toei’s announcement for the Elbaph return named the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America among the regions receiving the anime on Crunchyroll. In the United States, current availability listings also show One Piece on services and purchase stores including Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, Netflix Standard with Ads, and Amazon Video, but catalogs can change.

For a legal source, check the episode coverage in your local catalog rather than assuming that every platform carries the same arc. One Piece on Crunchyroll is the most directly relevant option for the Elbaph return in the regions covered by Toei’s announcement, but regional availability should still be confirmed before subscribing.

A manga-first alternative

If anime pacing is your main concern, reading the manga avoids filler by definition and lets you return to the anime for favorite fights, performances, or story moments. The English-language One Piece manga box set, Box Set 1: East Blue and Baroque Works, contains volumes 1–23 and covers the series’ opening major story sections. VIZ identifies the set as including premiums and savings compared with purchasing the individual volumes.

That box set is an optional starting point, not a requirement for using this list, and it covers only the beginning of the enormous series. Readers who prefer digital or individual volumes can also read the One Piece manga through VIZ-authorized retailers. A manga-first route is especially useful if you want the original story without anime-original detours, then plan to use the anime selectively.

Why this list does not include every “slow” episode

Online filler lists often disagree because they use different definitions. One guide may label a recap or a mostly original episode as filler, while another may preserve it as mixed because it contains a manga-derived scene. This article follows the four-part classification described above and reserves the main skip list for pure filler.

That approach avoids two common mistakes:

  • Skipping too much: Treating mixed episodes such as 61 or 226 as pure filler can remove story material or important transitions.
  • Calling filler worthless: G-8, selected Post-Alabasta episodes, Boss Luffy specials, and film tie-ins can be enjoyable even when they are not necessary for the manga plot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the G-8 Arc really filler?

Yes. Episodes 196–206 are classified as pure filler in this guide, so they can be skipped without losing the manga-derived storyline. They are also widely regarded as some of the best optional anime-original material in One Piece, so many viewers choose to watch them.

Should I skip One Piece episode 61?

No. Episode 61 is classified as mixed canon/filler. Skip episodes 54–60, then watch episode 61 unless you are following an unusually aggressive pacing edit.

Can I skip every episode labeled anime canon?

You can if your only goal is the shortest manga-faithful route, but it is not the best default for a first watch. Anime-canon episodes are original to the anime and may provide useful character or transition material. Check their position before removing them.

Do I need the filler episodes before watching the One Piece movies?

Usually not for the main story. Some pure-filler episodes are film tie-ins, including Z’s Ambition, Cidre Guild, and Uta-related material. They can add promotional or setup context, but the associated films and the manga-derived series plot do not require the entire filler list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much of One Piece is filler?

The cited classification lists 94 pure-filler episodes among 1,168 classified episodes, or approximately 8%. It also lists 43 mixed canon/filler episodes and 21 anime-canon episodes, which is why the total amount of anime-original or partly original material is larger than the pure-filler percentage alone suggests.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: For the cleanest manga-faithful anime order, skip only the 25 pure-filler ranges listed above, watch mixed episodes such as 61, 226, and 628, and treat anime-canon episodes as optional rather than automatically disposable. If you are willing to watch one filler arc, make it G-8 (196–206); if you want to eliminate anime pacing altogether, use the manga as your primary route.
