The Snake was a FOX social-strategy reality competition hosted by comedian Jim Jefferies. The series premiered on June 10, 2025, and began with 15 announced contestants whose occupations were presented as clues to their possible strengths in persuasion, performance, investigation, negotiation or social influence. A pair of later entrants brought the total number of contestants who appeared during season one to 17.

The contestants competed for a reported $100,000 prize. Each week, one player became the Snake and controlled the Saving Ceremony—a chain-reaction elimination in which contestants saved one another until the person left at the end was eliminated. FOX did not renew the series for a second season, so The Snake is currently a completed one-season reality show rather than an active returning program. FOX’s announcement identified the show’s premise, host and prize.

Who was in the original cast of The Snake?

FOX’s pre-premiere announcement named 15 original contestants. Their listed occupations functioned as the show’s promotional archetypes—not independent judgments about their personalities, careers or abilities. The cast represented a deliberately varied group, including a pastor, lawyer, detective, poker player, bounty hunter, police officer, boxer and politician.

Contestant On-show archetype Hometown
Jacob Buchholz “The Pastor” Upland, California
Alyssa Grassie “The OnlyFans Content Creator” Miami, Florida
Bryan Sobolewski “The Ex-Con” Lewisville, Texas
Amanda Short “The Lawyer” Richmond, Virginia
Derek North “The Detective” Naperville, Illinois
Devonte Kavanaugh “The Poker Player” Los Angeles, California
Jack Micco “The Non-Profit Director” Austin, Texas
MacLaine Funsch “The Indianapolis Colts Cheerleader” Carmel, Indiana
Mena Samara “The Bounty Hunter” Moore, Oklahoma
Jordan DeJesse “The HR Director” Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Cody Brewer “The Bull Rider” Cookeville, Tennessee
Kailee Fessock “The Police Officer” Hollywood, Florida
Brett Covalt “The Boxer” Tampa, Florida
Kethryn Cavender “The Tech Manager” New York, New York
Frank Lavecchia “The Makeup Artist” Charlotte, North Carolina

The names, archetypes and hometowns above come from the pre-launch cast announcement reported by No Reruns. The labels should be read as the program’s introductions to its players, not as a complete biography of any contestant.

The two later entrants

Some season-one cast lists contain 17 names instead of 15 because two contestants joined after FOX announced the initial lineup. Episode materials described an unexpected contestant arriving in the second episode and another arrival in the third. Those additions were:

  • Christine Pierre — “The Teacher” — Somerset, New Jersey. Secondary season documentation lists her age as 29.
  • John Bauters — “The Politician” — Emeryville, California.

FOX’s episode materials document the later arrivals; see the FOX release for the episode-related cast information. The clearest way to describe the cast is therefore: 15 original contestants were announced before the premiere, and 17 contestants appeared during season one after Pierre and Bauters entered later.

How the competition worked

The Snake built its elimination system around social influence. Players took part in challenges designed to test qualities associated with their promotional archetypes, including persuasion, performance, negotiation and investigation. The central power was held by the contestant designated that week as the Snake.

The Snake controlled the Saving Ceremony. Contestants saved one another in sequence, creating a chain reaction. Whoever remained unsaved at the end was eliminated. That structure made relationships and trust as important as challenge performance: a player could be safe because another contestant chose them, while the final person in the chain had no remaining protection.

The format also made the cast’s labels strategically relevant without making them definitive. A lawyer or detective might be marketed as naturally analytical; a poker player might be associated with reading opponents; a performer might be expected to manage attention. But the show’s outcome depended on how each contestant actually navigated alliances, pressure and the Saving Ceremony.

Who hosted The Snake?

Jim Jefferies, the Australian comedian and actor, hosted the series. FOX announced The Snake as a FOX Entertainment competition series produced by 495 Productions. SallyAnn Salsano served as executive producer and showrunner, alongside Frank Miccolis and Kim Green.
