Spoiler warning: Mel Owens chose Peg Munson over Cindy Cullers in The Golden Bachelor Season 2 finale. Munson received Owens’s final rose and a diamond ring—but it was presented as a commitment or promise ring, not an engagement ring.
Who won The Golden Bachelor Season 2?
Peg Munson was Mel Owens’s final choice. The Season 2 finale aired on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, after a nine-episode season that began on September 24. Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL linebacker and lawyer from Southern California, ended the season with Munson, a 62-year-old retired firefighter and bomb technician from Las Vegas.
ABC identified Munson as the recipient of Owens’s final rose. The finale also included a diamond ring, but viewers should not describe the ending as a traditional Bachelor-style proposal: Owens and Munson called it a commitment or promise ring rather than an engagement ring.
Was Peg Munson engaged to Mel Owens?
No—not based on the finale or the post-finale updates covered in the available reporting. Owens gave Munson a diamond ring as a symbol of their commitment, but he did not ask her to marry him.

The distinction was deliberate. During their fantasy-suite date, Owens and Munson discussed what the ring would mean before he presented it. Owens said he did not want to surprise Munson with an expectation to become engaged if they had not agreed to that step. Munson likewise said they were choosing a definition of love and commitment that worked for them.
That made the ending unusual for the franchise, but it also made the couple’s position clear: they were committing to the relationship without rushing into marriage. Calling Munson Owens’s “fiancée” would therefore be inaccurate unless a later, direct announcement confirms an engagement.
What happened to Cindy Cullers?
Cindy Cullers was the other finalist before the last decision. She left after Owens told her that he was not ready to make an engagement commitment. Her departure effectively narrowed the finale to Owens and Munson and made Munson the final-rose recipient.
In other words, Cullers did not lose a conventional proposal showdown at the final ceremony. The engagement question itself became the decisive issue. Once Owens made clear that he could not promise an engagement, Cullers chose to exit rather than continue under circumstances that did not match what she wanted.

Are Mel Owens and Peg Munson still together?
The latest well-sourced public updates located for this recap described Owens and Munson as together and in love, but did not establish a later engagement or marriage.
During the post-finale discussion, the couple said they were continuing to grow their relationship without rushing toward marriage. In a November 13, 2025 interview with TheWrap, they described spending private visits of several days together while maintaining separate homes. Their plans included traveling between Las Vegas, Orange County, Detroit, San Francisco, and other destinations.
Us Weekly reported in December 2025 that they were still in what it called the honeymoon phase and had chosen not to treat the absence of an engagement as a problem. Those reports support saying that they were together at that point. They do not support making a definitive claim about their relationship status much later without a newer direct source from Owens or Munson.
Who is Mel Owens?
Owens entered the season as a former NFL player who later became a lawyer. ABC’s production biography says he was raised in Detroit and has two sons. After his marriage ended, he focused on parenting and coaching before looking for a new relationship on the series.

The season began with 23 women and followed the franchise’s familiar progression of group dates, individual dates, hometown-style introductions, and fantasy-suite conversations. The finale ultimately turned less on a conventional proposal than on whether Owens and each finalist wanted the same kind of commitment at the same time.
The controversy before the season
Owens’s casting and preseason interviews drew criticism before the season aired. Reported podcast remarks attributed to him included saying that he did not want to date women over 60 and that producers should avoid contestants with artificial hips or wigs.
During the promotional cycle, Owens apologized to the contestants. He later told TheWrap that he believed he deserved the backlash. Those comments are relevant context for understanding the season’s surrounding coverage, but they are not evidence that the finale was manipulated. The verified finale outcome remains that Owens chose Munson and gave her a commitment ring rather than an engagement ring.
