Driver later charged in the fatal collision
The legal case changed several months after the crash. On March 16, 2026, the NYPD announced that the driver, identified in later reports as 62-year-old Bronx resident MD Abdul Shomuz, had been arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian. The charge was reported as a misdemeanor, and Shomuz received a desk appearance ticket.
Reports about the case said Shomuz was due in court on April 1, 2026. No reliable public report located through the research update of August 10, 2026, confirmed what happened at or after that appearance. Accordingly, there is no verified basis to say that Shomuz pleaded guilty, was convicted, was sentenced or that the case was dismissed.

The driver reportedly remained at the scene and was not injured. The available police-based accounts therefore do not support describing the collision as a hit-and-run.
Davis’s connection to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Davis appeared in the fifth and final season of Amazon’s period comedy series. Their role was small but identifiable: they played a police officer in “Four Minutes,” season 5, episode 9, which was released in 2023.
The episode-credit record lists Davis as “Cop,” and identifies the appearance as their most recent documented onscreen role. The episode credit places Davis opposite the show’s lead, Rachel Brosnahan. Davis was not a series regular or a major cast member; the accurate description is that they appeared in one episode.
A career spanning television, film and comedy
Born Wendy Davis in Durham, North Carolina, on October 18, 1965, Davis moved to New York in their late 20s. Reporting that cited their agent said Davis initially pursued stand-up comedy before moving into acting.
The available credits include the short film Ladies Room, Bare Knuckle, and the feature films Shame and The Normal Heart. Their television work included appearances in Rescue Me, American Odyssey, Blindspot, New Amsterdam, Girls5eva and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Davis also worked in security at John F. Kennedy International Airport and was connected to the JFK Customs hockey community. Their professional life was therefore broader than the screen credits that brought them to public attention.
Friends remembered Davis’s New York life
Jamie Harris of Clear Talent Group, Davis’s agent, described them as a “bright light” and spoke of their love for New York, acting, JFK colleagues, family and friends. Harris’s comments were reported by The Advocate.

Name and pronoun reporting
Davis was born Wendy Davis and worked professionally as Wenne Alton Davis. Public reporting differs in its use of gendered descriptions and pronouns. The Advocate reported that Davis listed they/them pronouns on their Instagram profile, while friends sometimes used she/her.
This article uses “Wenne Alton Davis” and they/them pronouns where a pronoun is necessary, while retaining the supplied headline’s use of “actress.” Readers should not infer additional details about Davis’s gender identity beyond what has been publicly documented.
