The catch: Season 3 is split into two cours
The phrase October 2026 release is accurate, but it does not mean that all of Season 3 will arrive in October. The official Japanese announcement describes the season as 分割2クール, meaning a split two-cour broadcast.

The December 2026 movie is not Season 3’s second cour
The film’s full Japanese title is 劇場版 薬屋のひとりごと 亡妃の秘宝. Official English-facing coverage calls it The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie. The Japanese subtitle refers to the “secret treasure of the deceased consort.”
The movie is a completely new original story based on a story concept by original light-novel author Natsu Hyūga. It is not a compilation of earlier episodes, and it is not a renamed version of Season 3 Cour 2.
In the film’s setup, Maomao and Jinshi travel south to return the remains of a consort who died five years earlier. Their journey takes them to the water city of Minan Province, where the mystery expands to include the remains, pirates, and hidden treasure. The official movie announcement confirms the Japanese release date and story premise.

This setup suggests a wider political and geographical scope than the earlier inner-court mysteries, but the official material does not yet provide a full episode-by-episode adaptation plan or identify which light-novel volumes the season will cover.
