There is no universal, legal, free livestream of every NHL game in the United States. You may be able to watch a particular game at no additional cost through a local over-the-air station, an official team stream, an eligible free trial, or an existing TV-provider subscription. Free official radio is the reliable fallback when free video is unavailable.
The phrase “NHL 2026” is also ambiguous. As of August 9, 2026, the 2025–26 season and 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs are over. The next regular season—the 2026–27 NHL season—begins Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The United States opening night has an ESPN tripleheader, followed by TNT’s first doubleheader on September 30. The NHL has announced the national partners, but not yet the complete 2026–27 broadcast schedule. Check the official listings again when the specific game is scheduled.
What “NHL 2026” means
If you are looking for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, that event concluded in June 2026. If you mean the next NHL season, it is the 2026–27 regular season, beginning on September 29, 2026. The NHL’s official schedule announcement says ESPN will carry an opening-night tripleheader in the United States, while TNT Sports begins its season with a doubleheader on September 30.

The 2026–27 U.S. national partners are ESPN/ABC and TNT Sports, with HBO Max serving as TNT Sports’ streaming home. The NHL says the 2027 Stanley Cup Final will be exclusive to TNT in the United States. Because the full game-by-game broadcast schedule was not yet published as of August 9, 2026, do not assume that a particular game will be on ESPN, ABC, TNT, HBO Max, or a local station until the listing confirms it.
Is there a free NHL livestream?
Not one that legally carries the entire league schedule for free in the United States. “Free NHL streaming” can mean several different things:
- Free with an antenna: a local team broadcast is carried by an over-the-air station in your market.
- Free inside a team territory: a team-owned or team-affiliated service streams selected local games without a separate video subscription.
- Free during a trial: a live-TV service temporarily includes the network showing the game.
- Included with something you already pay for: an existing cable, satellite, internet, mobile, household, school, or library entitlement may authenticate the official app.
- Free audio or clips: official radio, highlights, condensed games, and replays may be available without paying for live video.
A game may still be unavailable through a free local feed if it is assigned exclusively to a national partner. Local rights, national rights, geography, blackouts, and the exact game date all matter.
Do not treat unauthorized “NHL streams,” mirror websites, social-media embeds, or pop-up players as legitimate alternatives. They can disappear during the game, expose viewers to malicious advertising, and violate broadcast rights. Use the league, team, broadcaster, or official service listing instead.

Find the legal broadcast for a specific game
- Open the official NHL schedule and select the exact date and matchup.
- Read the game’s Where to Watch or broadcast listing. Identify whether it is on ESPN, ABC, TNT, a local team broadcaster, an out-of-market service, or a Canadian or international provider.
- Enter your ZIP code or postal code in the NHL’s local broadcaster and blackout lookup. This helps identify your local station and whether the game is in your broadcast territory.
These categories prevent most streaming mistakes:
- Local-market game: a team’s regional broadcaster has the rights in the area around that team. The game may be available through a local station, regional service, or team stream.
- Out-of-market game: you live outside the teams’ local broadcast territories. NHL Power Play through ESPN Select is primarily designed for this situation, subject to restrictions.
- National exclusive: ESPN, ABC, TNT, or another national partner has exclusive rights. A local team station or local team app may not show it.
- Blackout: the service blocks the game in a particular location because another broadcaster has priority. A paid subscription does not necessarily override that restriction.
Free ways to watch NHL games in the United States
1. Watch a local broadcast with a digital antenna
An antenna is often the cheapest legal option for fans who live in an NHL team’s television territory. It does not require a monthly streaming subscription, but it does require a suitable signal and a television station that actually has rights to that game.
Use the NHL ZIP-code lookup first, then check the game listing. If the listed station does not appear on your television, connect or rescan a digital antenna. Signal strength, building materials, terrain, antenna placement, and distance from the transmitter can affect reception.
| Team | Free local viewing reported by the official team or league information | Territory and exclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Florida Panthers | Regular-season local games air on Scripps stations, including WSFL in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market. The Panthers say viewers can use a digital antenna. | Only within the relevant local market; nationally exclusive games are excluded. See the Panthers FAQ. |
| Utah Mammoth | Most games not assigned to national broadcasts are available free on Utah 16, KUPX-TV Channel 16. | Local broadcast-market coverage only. Nationally televised games are not automatically included. See Where to Watch. |
| Seattle Kraken | Non-nationally televised games are available free over the air through TEGNA stations, including KONG and KING 5 in Seattle, plus partner stations. | Coverage extends to parts of Washington, Oregon, and Alaska; verify the affiliate for your ZIP code. See the Kraken broadcast announcement. |
| Vegas Golden Knights | Scripps Sports broadcasts selected locally produced games free over the air. | Available inside the Golden Knights’ television territory and subject to the game’s national assignment. See the team broadcast details. |
| Tampa Bay Lightning | Scripps distributes Lightning broadcasts through free over-the-air television, as well as cable, satellite, and digital options in the local market. | Free OTA access depends on the local station and game assignment. See the Lightning viewing announcement. |
| Nashville Predators | Beginning with the 2026–27 season, locally produced games not assigned nationally will be available free over the air through “The Spot – Nashville 28” and other local distribution arrangements. | Check local affiliate details and confirm the specific game is not a national exclusive. See the Predators–Scripps announcement. |
| Anaheim Ducks | KCOP-13 is listed as a free over-the-air outlet for certain games. | Not every Ducks game is on the free station. The Ducks also use Victory+ for eligible local streaming; check the Ducks broadcast schedule. |
| Dallas Stars | The main free option is Victory+, an official local streaming service rather than an antenna channel. | Victory+ is free inside the Stars’ four-state broadcast area—Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas—except for nationally selected games. See the Stars’ Victory+ announcement. |
This is not a complete list of every local arrangement, and stations or affiliates can change. The NHL’s ZIP-code guide should be the final check before puck drop.
2. Use an official free team stream
Team-owned streaming services can be excellent free options, but they are usually regional. They do not replace the national NHL package and generally do not show games selected for ESPN, ABC, TNT, or another national partner.

Victory+ for Dallas and Anaheim
Dallas Stars: Victory+ carries Stars games at no charge to viewers within the team’s four-state broadcast territory of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas, except for national broadcasts.
Anaheim Ducks: Victory+ carries locally available Ducks broadcasts free in the team’s regional market. A ZIP-code or location check may be required, and national exclusions still apply. Use the official Ducks TV FAQ and broadcast schedule rather than assuming every matchup is included.
Services that are not automatically free
- Florida: PanthersPlus.TV streams locally produced Panthers games, but the Panthers’ current FAQ describes the regular-season service as a paid season pass. The team has specifically confirmed free PanthersPlus access for 2026–27 preseason games with registration. See the Panthers FAQ and preseason announcement.
- Utah: Mammoth+ is a paid local-game service, although most non-nationally televised local games are also available free over the air on Utah 16.
- Vegas: KnightTime+ is generally a paid service for locally produced games. The free option is the Scripps over-the-air broadcast where available, not the streaming subscription itself. See the KnightTime FAQ.
Always use the team’s official “Where to Watch” page or app. A free service can have registration requirements, territory checks, device limits, or different rules for preseason, regular season, and playoffs.
3. Use a legitimate free trial for a nationally televised game
A trial is temporary access to a live-TV package—not a permanent free NHL service. It works only if the selected package carries the network showing the particular game in your ZIP code.
| Service | When it may help | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Hulu + Live TV | Hulu currently advertises a three-day trial for eligible users. The package includes ESPN access and more than 100 live channels, including ABC and TNT, subject to local availability. | A payment method is normally required. The advertised post-trial price is $89.99 per month, and the subscription automatically converts to paid service unless canceled under the offer’s terms. Check the channel and ZIP code first at Hulu’s NHL page. |
| YouTube TV | Eligible new subscribers may receive a free trial. The selected plan supplies the channels included in that plan, and YouTube TV lists TNT and local network coverage for NHL viewing. | Trial length varies by plan and user. Check your ZIP code and the exact game. The service’s NHL page may also show a limited preview, which is not the same as a full trial. See YouTube TV trial rules and its NHL page. |
| HBO Max | HBO Max is the streaming home for TNT Sports in the United States, so it is relevant when the game is on TNT. | Do not assume there is a standing free trial. HBO Max says most subscription providers do not offer one; any promotion or trial should appear during signup. See the official trial policy. |
Before beginning any trial, confirm all three points: the game’s network, the service’s local channel lineup, and your eligibility. A trial that includes TNT does not necessarily include ESPN or ABC, and a channel can be unavailable in a particular market or blocked for a particular game.
4. Activate a subscription you already have
The ESPN app is free to download, but downloading it or creating a basic ESPN account does not unlock all live games. Many ESPN and ABC broadcasts require authentication through an eligible cable, satellite, live-TV streaming, or other participating provider.
- Open the ESPN app or ESPN.com and select the NHL game.
- Choose Log in with TV provider or the equivalent authentication option.
- Select your provider and enter the account credentials.
- Watch if your package includes the relevant ESPN or ABC entitlement.
ESPN identifies providers such as Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, Spectrum, DIRECTV, Verizon FiOS, U-verse, Cox, and Comcast/Xfinity for relevant access, but the exact entitlement depends on the package. A provider login may therefore make a game “free” at the point of viewing only because it is already included in a subscription. See ESPN’s authentication instructions.
5. Listen to the game for free
When live video is unavailable, official radio is a genuine free live option—just not a video stream. Team radio may be available through the team website, team app, NHL app, Audacy, TuneIn, or a local radio station.

For example, the Washington Capitals say their radio network carries all Capitals games and is available free online and through the Capitals mobile or NHL app. The Anaheim Ducks offer free Ducks Stream audio, including live game audio, without requiring signup. Visit the Capitals radio page or the Ducks Stream FAQ for those examples. Other teams publish their own audio links on their official sites.
Official highlights, condensed games, recaps, and clips can also provide free postgame coverage, but they are not substitutes for a live full-game video stream.
ESPN Select and NHL Power Play: what they actually include
One of the most common mistakes in NHL streaming guides is describing ESPN+—now branded as ESPN Select—as if it includes every NHL game. It does not.
| Product or broadcast | What it is generally for | What it does not automatically include |
|---|---|---|
| ESPN Select | The successor to ESPN+ and the home for ESPN+ content, including NHL out-of-market games and ESPN+ exclusive games. | It does not automatically unlock ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, TNT, local regional broadcasts, or every playoff game. |
| NHL Power Play | More than 1,000 out-of-market games, subject to blackouts and other restrictions. | Local-market games may be blacked out, and nationally exclusive games may require the national broadcaster or a qualifying provider. |
| ESPN Unlimited | A broader ESPN service that can provide access to network programming according to the plan and entitlement. | It is not the same product as ESPN Select, and exact access should be checked against the game and current plan. |
ESPN’s NHL information page distinguishes ESPN Select, ESPN Unlimited, provider authentication, and NHL Power Play. Official ESPN pages have displayed inconsistent Select pricing—$11.99 in one location and $12.99 in another—so check the live checkout page rather than relying on a stale price in an article.
Why NHL Power Play may show a blackout
NHL Power Play is primarily an out-of-market product. If you live in a team’s local territory, the regional broadcaster may own the local rights and ESPN can block the game. ESPN says blackout decisions use the viewer’s location, including IP address and, on mobile devices, location information.
A blackout usually means check the local broadcaster, not that the subscription is broken. A viewer traveling to another location may see different availability, and a game can be unavailable on both a local team app and ESPN Select if a national partner has exclusive rights. Read ESPN’s blackout policy and location guidance for the service’s rules.
Do not count on a VPN to defeat a blackout. Streaming services can reject inconsistent or unavailable location information, and using a location-spoofing method may violate the service’s terms. The dependable approach is to use the broadcaster licensed for your actual location.
Choose the best option for your situation
| Your situation | Best first check | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| You want one local team and live in its market | Check the NHL ZIP-code broadcaster guide and the team’s official “Where to Watch” page. | Nationally exclusive games may be removed from local coverage. |
| You live near a free local station | Use a digital antenna and the station listed for your ZIP code. | Reception and geography vary. |
| You support Dallas or Anaheim | Check Victory+ for the eligible in-market game. | Territory restrictions and national blackouts apply. |
| You support Utah, Vegas, Tampa Bay, Florida, Seattle, or Nashville | Check the team’s local over-the-air affiliate first. | Only locally assigned games are free, and arrangements differ by team. |
| You want one ESPN or ABC game | Use an antenna if it is on local ABC; otherwise check an existing provider or an eligible live-TV trial. | The complete 2026–27 ABC schedule was not yet available as of August 9, 2026. |
| You want one TNT game | Check an existing TV provider, an eligible Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV trial, or HBO Max. | HBO Max generally has no standing free trial. |
| You want most out-of-market games | ESPN Select/NHL Power Play. | It is paid, local blackouts apply, and it is not a complete national TV package. |
| You only need live play-by-play | Official team radio or the NHL/team app. | Audio only. |
| You live in Canada | Check Sportsnet, Prime Video, and TVA Sports; use included Prime access or a qualifying trial where available. | CBC is not returning as the previous NHL partner for 2026–27. |
| You live outside North America | Use the NHL’s country-specific viewing guide and check NHL.TV on DAZN where listed. | Rights, blackouts, territory availability, and prices vary by country. |
How to use a free trial without getting charged
- Identify the game’s network first. Do not start a trial until you know whether the game is on ESPN, ABC, TNT, or a local channel.
- Check the service’s ZIP-code lineup. A service may carry a national network but not the local affiliate needed for your game.
- Read the eligibility terms. Trials are normally limited to eligible new or returning customers and may require a payment method.
- Record the exact end date and time. Do not rely only on the calendar date; cancellation deadlines can be tied to the exact trial period.
- Cancel before renewal if necessary. Use the provider’s account or subscription page, then save the confirmation email or cancellation screen.
- Verify that the subscription is canceled. A deleted app or sign-out does not necessarily cancel billing.
Hulu currently advertises a three-day Hulu + Live TV trial for eligible users, with automatic conversion to the advertised $89.99-per-month plan unless canceled. YouTube TV’s trial length varies by plan and user. Offers and prices can change, so verify the checkout page on the day you sign up.

How to watch NHL games free in Canada in 2026–27
Canada’s rights arrangement changes substantially for the 2026–27 season. Rogers and the NHL signed a 12-year Canadian national-rights agreement running through the 2037–38 season. Rogers retains national television, digital, streaming, regular-season, playoff, and Stanley Cup Final rights, with the ability to sublicense selected packages. The NHL’s rights announcement explains the arrangement.
Beginning September 30, 2026, Prime Video will exclusively carry Wednesday Night Hockey in Canada in English and French. The package includes at least 26 regular-season games and selected playoff series. There is no additional charge for Canadian Prime members, but a Prime membership is required, so it is not strictly free unless you already have Prime or qualify for a trial. Amazon lists Canadian Prime at $9.99 per month or $99 per year and says eligible young adults and students may qualify for a six-month trial, subject to its terms. See Amazon’s Canadian NHL announcement.
Sportsnet says it will carry all Saturday games moving forward, while TVA Sports and the TVA app remain part of the Canadian viewing options. CBC will no longer carry NHL games under its previous cross-licensing arrangement with Sportsnet; do not rely on old guides promising free CBC NHL streams. The NHL’s official viewing guide lists Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, Prime Video, TVA Sports, the TVA app, and Sportsnet+ for many out-of-market games.
The realistic no-new-cost Canadian options are an included Prime Video game for someone who already pays for Prime, an eligible Prime trial, any locally available television broadcast, and official radio or highlights. There is no reason to expect a universal free CBC livestream for 2026–27.

International NHL streaming
The correct service outside the United States and Canada depends on the country. The NHL says that beginning with the 2025–26 season, NHL.TV moved to DAZN in nearly 200 countries and territories. The publicly available NHL information confirms the 2025–26 arrangement, so 2026–27 country availability, pricing, and exact packages should be checked again before the season begins.
In listed territories, NHL.TV on DAZN provides live games, replays, recaps, and condensed games, with blackout exceptions in some markets. The NHL’s international information specifically notes restrictions in markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Start with the NHL country-specific viewing guide rather than trying to use a U.S. service that may be unavailable or blocked in your country. The NHL’s DAZN/NHL.TV information page provides an example of the territory-specific rules.
What to do when the official free option fails
- Confirm the date and season. Make sure you are not looking at a completed 2026 playoff game, a preseason game, or a 2026–27 regular-season listing.
- Confirm the broadcast network. A local app will not necessarily carry an ESPN, ABC, TNT, or other national exclusive.
- Check your ZIP code or postal code. Recheck the NHL broadcaster lookup and the team’s official local-market page.
- Check the antenna. Rescan channels, move the antenna near a window or higher position, and verify that the station is within reception range.
- Use the official app or website. If an embedded browser player fails, try the broadcaster’s supported app or a current browser.
- Allow legitimate location access. If the official app requires location information, grant the normal permission for your actual location. Do not spoof your location.
- Check the account entitlement. A basic ESPN account, a free app download, or a subscription to the wrong ESPN product may not unlock the game.
- Switch to official radio. If video rights or geography prevent free viewing, team radio provides live play-by-play without the same video subscription.
Before subscribing, confirm that the service supports your intended device—smart TV, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, phone, browser, game console, Chromecast, or AirPlay setup. ESPN publishes a current list of supported web, mobile, television, streaming-box, console, Chromecast, and AirPlay-compatible devices in its device support guide.
Preseason games can have different rules
Do not assume that a free preseason stream means the regular season will be free. Teams sometimes make preseason games available through their own services even when regular-season rights are paid or divided among national and regional broadcasters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch every NHL game for free in 2026?
No. There is no universal legal free livestream of every NHL game in the United States. Free full-game video is limited to selected local over-the-air broadcasts, certain team streams, existing subscription access, and temporary trials. Official radio, highlights, and replays are more widely available for free.
Does ESPN Select include every ESPN, ABC, and TNT NHL game?
No. ESPN Select is the successor to ESPN+ and includes ESPN+ content, including NHL Power Play out-of-market games and ESPN+ exclusives. ESPN, ABC, and TNT games may require ESPN Unlimited, an eligible TV-provider login, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, HBO Max, or another service carrying the relevant broadcast.
Is Prime Video’s NHL coverage free in Canada?
Wednesday Night Hockey will be included at no additional charge for Canadian Prime members beginning September 30, 2026. A Prime membership is still required, so it is only no-cost if you already have Prime or qualify for an eligible trial.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can I use an antenna to watch my local NHL team outside its market?
Usually not. Over-the-air broadcasts are limited by the station’s coverage area and the team’s broadcast territory. Enter your ZIP or postal code in the NHL’s local broadcaster lookup and confirm that the specific game is not nationally exclusive.
What is the best free fallback if the video stream is blocked?
Use the team’s official radio stream or the NHL/team app. For example, the Capitals offer free online radio coverage and the Ducks offer free Ducks Stream audio. This is live audio, not full-game video.
The Bottom Line
Best truly free video: a local over-the-air station with a digital antenna, or an official free team stream such as Victory+ when you are inside the correct territory.
Best temporary option: an eligible Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV trial after confirming the game’s network, local channel availability, and cancellation deadline.
