How U.S. viewers watched Paris 2024
Option 1: Receive scheduled NBC coverage with an antenna
The closest thing to a free U.S. Olympic broadcast was local NBC over the air. A suitable antenna connected to a television could receive a local broadcast station without a cable, satellite, or streaming subscription. The Federal Trade Commission’s antenna guidance says that televisions made since 2007 generally include digital tuners capable of receiving free over-the-air channels with an antenna.
This was free after the equipment cost, but it was not an internet stream and it was not a complete Olympic pass. NBC selected the events and programs shown on its broadcast schedule. Coverage included substantial daytime and primetime programming, ceremonies, and major portions of sports such as swimming, gymnastics, track and field, soccer, and basketball, but the exact events and times changed throughout the Games. NBC’s viewing guide reported at least nine hours of live event coverage on many Olympic days.
To try this route:
- Connect the antenna to the television’s antenna or RF input.
- Open the television’s settings and run an automatic channel scan. The label may be Channel Scan, Auto Scan, Auto Program, or similar.
- Look for the local NBC affiliate. Its virtual channel number may differ from the physical broadcast frequency.
- Check the local NBC schedule rather than assuming that a particular sport will be on all day.
If NBC does not appear, the problem may be reception rather than the television: there may be no NBC affiliate within usable range, the indoor signal may be weak, or walls, terrain, and building materials may be interfering. Rescan after repositioning the antenna near a window or higher location. An antenna receives local broadcast channels; it does not unlock Peacock or premium subscription channels.

Option 2: Use Peacock for complete U.S. coverage
For U.S. viewers during Paris 2024, Peacock was the comprehensive streaming option. NBCUniversal said its Olympic coverage included every sport and event in its U.S. plan, all 329 medal events, more than 5,000 hours of coverage, live programming, full-event replays, clips, and NBC content. The company’s announcement is the appropriate source for that historical coverage claim: NBCUniversal’s Paris 2024 streaming plan.
Peacock’s Olympic hub was designed for people who wanted to find an event rather than wait for a television network to schedule it. Its features included:
- Browse by Sport and sport-specific hubs.
- An interactive schedule showing live and upcoming events.
- Athlete search and medal standings.
- Full-event replays for delayed viewing.
- Gold Zone, a live whip-around program intended to move between the most important action.
- Discovery Multiview and traditional multiview for watching several feeds at once.
- Spanish-language coverage through Telemundo content.
Gold Zone was scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time from July 27 through August 10, 2024. It was useful for following multiple sports, but it was not a substitute for selecting the complete feed of a particular event.
The historical way to find an event was:
- Create or sign in to a Peacock account.
- Open the Olympics section or Olympic hub.
- Choose Browse by Sport, the interactive schedule, an athlete, or a live-event listing.
- Select the live event, full-event replay, clip, or companion program.
- For a complete delayed viewing experience, choose the full-event replay instead of a condensed highlight.
Peacock still exposes at least some Paris 2024 pages, including Best of Paris 2024. That surviving page does not prove that every event replay remains available, and the platform may require a current subscription or account access for some titles.
Option 3: Authenticate through NBC’s digital platforms
NBC’s online Olympic coverage was a middle option for viewers who already paid for a participating cable, satellite, or live-TV provider. The websites and apps were free to access, but the rights-controlled long-form streams could be locked until the viewer authenticated.

The practical sign-in sequence was:
- Open the event page in the NBC Olympics website or an NBC app.
- Select the live event or video with a lock symbol.
- Choose the sign-in, TV-provider, or authenticate option.
- Select the provider from the list.
- Enter the provider’s credentials, which may be different from the NBC account credentials.
- Return to the event page and start the stream.
NBC’s help center explains that the local NBC station and the TV provider must have an agreement for a live stream to be available. If the provider is not listed, a viewer should not assume that paying NBC separately will solve the problem. The NBC provider and live-stream support page gives the relevant rights limitation.
The NBC explanation of free sites and apps makes the distinction explicit: downloading and using the apps can be free while some video—including long-form streams—still requires authentication.
Free official coverage outside the United States
Olympic streaming rights are territorial. A service that was free and comprehensive in one country was not necessarily available—or legally usable—in another. These were the principal examples during Paris 2024; current replay catalogs must be checked separately.
United Kingdom: BBC and BBC iPlayer
The BBC retained free-to-air Olympic coverage in the UK. Its Paris 2024 offering included BBC One, BBC Two, BBC iPlayer, an Olympics Extra stream, BBC Sport, Radio 5 Live, and BBC Sounds. The BBC’s Paris 2024 coverage guide describes the platform mix.
There is an important qualification to the word free. BBC iPlayer requires a valid UK TV Licence, and BBC terms state that television programs on iPlayer are not to be streamed outside the UK. The BBC’s terms of use are the authority for those location and licence conditions. Discovery+ was the UK service associated with every moment of coverage, but it was a separate service from the BBC’s free-to-air offering.
Australia: 9Now
Nine announced that 9Now would stream every Paris 2024 event through more than 40 dedicated live channels, with replays and highlights. 9Now is advertising-supported and free to use in Australia.

Canada: CBC Gem
CBC’s Paris 2024 announcement said CBC Gem would offer live streams of every event, alongside coverage on CBC television, the CBC Paris 2024 website, and the CBC Paris 2024 app. This was a Canada-specific rights arrangement. A CBC page or app that still exists today may contain highlights or selected replays rather than the complete 2024 event catalog.
France: France Télévisions and france.tv
In France, France Télévisions carried Paris 2024 across its television and digital platforms and launched the france.tv Paris 2024 digital channel. Its Paris 2024 platform announcement explains the digital offering.
Do not assume that the original live streams or every event replay remain on france.tv. Olympic replay rights can expire or change after the Games.

Latin America: official YouTube broadcaster channels
YouTube’s Paris 2024 announcement described official broadcaster channels such as Claro Sports and CazéTV offering Olympic content in designated territories. In Brazil and 17 Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, supported viewers could receive full broadcast livestreams and multiview, with up to four events shown simultaneously. The same arrangement also included official highlights, replays, and behind-the-scenes material.

How to watch Paris 2024 now
Because the Games ended on August 11, 2024, search for an archive, replay, or full ceremony rather than a live schedule. The following are the most reliable places to start:

The historical Paris 2024 replay path is Olympics.com’s Paris 2024 replay page. The organization of the archive has changed over time, so check whether the specific sport or event is playable before promising it to someone else. A page title alone does not guarantee that the video still has rights clearance in every country.
Peacock’s surviving archive
In the U.S., check Peacock’s Paris 2024 sports pages, including Best of Paris 2024. Some feature packages, highlights, or ceremonies may remain even if complete event feeds have been removed. Do not describe Peacock as having the complete Paris archive unless you have checked the particular event and territory at the time of publication.

Coverage details and a terminology trap
Paris 2024 featured 329 medal events. The official Paris 2024 final report classifies the Olympic program as 32 sports. NBCUniversal’s U.S. coverage materials, meanwhile, referred to coverage of 39 sports while also referring to 329 medal events.
Those numbers should not be presented as a contradiction in the Games themselves. The most likely explanation is that NBC used a broadcaster-oriented count that included sports and disciplines, while the official Games report used the formal Olympic sports-program classification. The safest wording is: Paris 2024 had 329 medal events; the official report lists 32 sports, while NBCUniversal described its U.S. coverage as spanning 39 sports. The official Paris 2024 final report and NBCUniversal coverage announcement provide the respective figures.

Coverage also differed in presentation and language. NBCUniversal included Spanish-language Telemundo content; BBC, CBC, France Télévisions, Claro Sports, and CazéTV had their own commentators, schedules, and editorial selections. Two services could both be official while offering different commentary, event feeds, highlights, and replay lengths.

Troubleshooting common problems
The NBC app is free, but the event is locked
This is expected when the video is a rights-controlled long-form stream. The app may be free while the event requires a qualifying TV-provider login. Check whether the provider is listed and whether the local NBC station has a streaming agreement. Unlocked clips and highlights do not prove that live event streams are unlocked.
You have an antenna but cannot find NBC
- Run the TV’s channel scan again after connecting the antenna.
- Try a different antenna position, preferably near a window or higher up.
- Check whether a local NBC affiliate serves your area.
- Look for NBC under a different virtual channel number.
- Remember that an antenna receives broadcast television, not Peacock’s internet catalog.
Reception depends on local availability, distance, terrain, and the construction of the building. Buying a subscription will not fix an antenna that cannot receive a local affiliate, and improving the antenna will not provide events that NBC did not schedule on broadcast television.
The NBC sign-in keeps looping
Make sure you are using the TV provider’s credentials rather than only an NBC account. Sign out and back in, confirm that the provider package includes the relevant local station, and try the event page in a current browser or updated app. If the provider is absent from the list, the limitation is probably rights-related rather than a bad password. Use the provider’s support channel or an official service with rights in your location.
The device does not play the stream
NBC’s digital platforms were intended for mobile devices, tablets, web browsers, and connected-TV viewing. If an older app or television cannot play the video, try the current official website on a supported browser or an updated app. Do not install unofficial streaming applications that claim to unlock Olympic broadcasts.

A missing replay does not necessarily mean the event was never available. Possible reasons include:
- The replay window expired.
- Live and on-demand rights were different.
- The video moved from the main Olympics hub into a sport-specific archive.
- The title is unavailable in your territory.
- A full event was replaced by a condensed highlight package.
- The platform retained ceremonies and features but removed complete event feeds.
Historical promises of full-event replays applied to the service and rights window at the time. They did not guarantee permanent online access.
A foreign service will not play
BBC iPlayer, 9Now, CBC Gem, and other broadcaster services operate under territorial rights. BBC terms restrict iPlayer television programs outside the UK, and 9Now explicitly restricts its content outside Australia. A VPN may be blocked and may conflict with a broadcaster’s terms, so it is not an official or guaranteed solution. Use the rights holder serving your own country.
A free trial has expired
Free trials are temporary promotions with eligibility rules, changing terms, and cancellation deadlines. They should not be treated as a permanent way to watch Olympic coverage. The replay title or thumbnail spoils the result
Search for the event before opening the Olympics hub, disable notifications, and avoid athlete or medal-standing pages if you want a spoiler-free viewing experience. Some archives label a video with the winner or final score. A full-event replay can also be listed beside a highlight package, so check the description before starting.
What not to assume about free Olympic streams
- Online does not mean free: comprehensive U.S. streaming was a paid Peacock offering during the Games.
- Free app does not mean free live event: NBC required authentication for some long-form streams.
- NBC broadcast does not mean every event: the antenna route carried scheduled network coverage only.
- One country’s rights do not travel: BBC iPlayer and 9Now were not worldwide services.
