The hilarious and painful journey of Kenny Powers has captivated HBO viewers ever since the show Eastbound and Down first premiered in 2009. His character, created by executive producer Will Ferrell, was inspired by notorious professional baseball player John Rocker. Rocker gained notoriety after he made what were perceived as offensive and racist comments during an interview with Sports Illustrated.
The documentary series follows Kenny Powers‘ journey from pro-baseball star to a self-destructive and reckless burnout. The audience is taken along on his comedic, yet pitiful voyage through his failures and victories alike. With Will Ferrell’s signature over the top humor, we are able to laugh at Kenny’s ignorance while simultaneously being pulled in to experience the rollercoaster of emotions that come with each chapter of his story.
