John Reed was an American journalist who journeyed to Russia in 1917 during the revolution, taking note of the many events that would later be remembered in his book, Ten Days That Shook the World. But while his account of the tumultuous ten days captured readers’ hearts and minds around the world, his own life was brief and ended tragically.
Reed arrived in Petrograd (now known as St. Petersburg) at a pivotal time for Russian history. He saw first-hand how peasants, soldiers, and workers fought together to overthrow Tsar Nicholas II and form their own government. It was a revolutionary experience that would eventually become one of the most significant moments in 20th century history.
