Battle to hunt in Sweden’s Arctic

For Sweden’s indigenous Sami people, the recent Supreme Court ruling conferring exclusive hunting and fishing rights to them was a moment of historic significance after a decade-long legal battle. But the decision hasn’t been greeted warmly by all non-indigenous hunters and anglers, and the conflict threatens to escalate into a full-blown crisis.

As the wellbeing of the reindeer and the livelihood of the Sami people hang in the balance, the documentary examines the clashes arising from the decision and its implications for the future. With fears that other Sami communities could follow the example of Girjas Sameby and take their cases to court, the documentary delves deep into the long-simmering conflict and the difficult choices it has presented to the Swedish people.
