Bangladesh’s “golden fiber” jute may hold the key to a plastic‑free future. Scientist Mubarak Ahmad Khan has developed a biodegradable foil from jute cellulose, used to make the “Sonali Bag” as a sustainable alternative to disposable plastics. While jute farming remains labor‑intensive and often unprofitable, commercial success of this innovation could transform livelihoods for farmers like Ayub and Afaz in Bogura and challenge the dominance of the global plastic industry.
