Just days earlier, Inside Edition had hired her as a part-time special correspondent.
From helicopter reporting to a new television job
Tur was already known for reporting from helicopters, including her live coverage of the 1994 O.J. Simpson Bronco chase. In early February 2015, contemporaneous reports said Inside Edition hired her as a part-time special correspondent. The announcement marked a new opportunity in television; it does not establish her employment there today or provide a complete account of her later career.
Tur told CNN that she had approached Inside Edition executive producer Charles Lachman. She described their hiring conversation as lasting three minutes. TV Guide reported that her first assignment was an interview with Dana Vahle, another transgender helicopter reporter. Those details come from Tur’s account and contemporaneous coverage, rather than an independently timed account of the meeting.
The kind of reporting Tur wanted to do
Tur said she wanted to appear on television as herself without being limited to stories about transgender people. In TV Guide’s February 4, 2015 report, she put it this way: “I am not covering stories as a transgender reporter,” Tur says. “I’m a reporter who is transgender.” The distinction was about her work: her identity was part of who she was, not a beat she wanted assigned to her by default.

In The Advocate’s account of the hire, Tur also said: “I was good enough to interview but not good enough to get hired.” The remark points to the gap she described between being considered for interviews and securing a staff opportunity. The Inside Edition job was a concrete opening, but one hire cannot establish that broader employment barriers had disappeared.
How to understand the “first” label
Inside Edition billed Tur in contemporaneous coverage as “America’s first transgender television reporter.” That wording should be treated as the program’s attributed description, not as an independently established historical superlative: the available reports do not prove an absolute first.

The central contrast in the 2015 story is narrower and well documented: Tur said she had been told coming out would mean she would never work again, and then she secured a part-time special-correspondent role. The reports illuminate that reversal without establishing what happened across her entire career afterward.
