What is the Weapons teaser about?
Weapons is a 2025 horror-thriller written and directed by Zach Cregger. Its official synopsis says: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at 2:17 a.m., a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”

The teaser’s central hook is that unexplained event in Maybrook, the fictional Illinois town where the story takes place. It presents the disappearance as a mystery; neither the teaser’s premise nor the official synopsis establishes who or what is responsible. Bloody Disgusting’s April 21, 2025 report identified the official teaser’s release and described its campaign as an eerie mystery.
Why did the children disappear at 2:17 a.m.?
The official synopsis does not answer that question. It identifies 2:17 a.m. as the time the children vanished, but leaves the cause unresolved. Treat explanations circulating in fictional campaign materials or inferred from teaser imagery as speculation unless they are confirmed by the film itself or an authoritative synopsis.

When did the Weapons teaser come out?
Contemporary coverage dates the official teaser trailer to April 21, 2025. The film later opened in U.S. theaters and IMAX on August 8, 2025; its international release began August 6, according to WaterTower Music’s soundtrack announcement.
What to know about the film
- Writer and director: Zach Cregger.
- Setting: Maybrook, a fictional Illinois town, as described by the Associated Press.
- Cast: Apple TV lists Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan among the cast. Its listing gives the film a runtime of 2 hours 8 minutes and an R rating, and classifies it as horror and thriller; storefront metadata can change.
- Humor: Cregger told the AP, “If the humor is coming from an authentic reaction that a character’s having, then it works.”
Where to watch Weapons
Amazon’s Prime Video page says the film is available to buy or rent. When that page was captured, it showed U.S. prices of $24.99 to buy or $19.99 to rent; rentals had 30 days to begin and 48 hours to finish after starting. Weapons soundtrack formats
WaterTower Music announced the Weapons (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on August 1, 2025, with music by Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay and Zach Cregger. The announcement described digital availability and LP and CD formats, with pre-orders through Waxwork Records; it does not establish current stock at any retailer. Composer Ryan Holladay said the score aimed to capture the story’s intensity and “the mystery and the longing for answers” without overstaying its welcome.
