YouTube firearms presenter Paul Harrell, 58, told viewers he was dead in a video he had recorded in December 2023. He instructed his manager, Brad Nelson, to publish the recording after his death. The video, titled “I’m Dead,” appeared in early September 2024. It was a message prepared in advance and published posthumously, not a live announcement.
How the video was made and released
The final video states that it was recorded on December 20, 2023. Harrell, known for firearm reviews and instructional videos on his YouTube channel, spoke directly to the camera and framed the recording as a message for viewers who would see it after he was gone. He asked his manager to publish it once he had died.

The recording date, the upload date and the date of news coverage are three separate events, and the reporting treats them differently. Coverage places the upload on September 3 or September 4, 2024, and the articles about it were published between September 5 and September 7, 2024.

These are his statements as they appear in the video. Coverage does not add further medical detail, and nothing in the reporting establishes his treatment history or prognosis beyond what he said himself.
The words viewers heard
The opening line, which news outlets quoted directly, is the phrase that gave the video its headline:
“If you’re watching me, I’m dead.”
He closed with a line that mixed his usual sign-off with a farewell:
“So, as always, don’t try this at home. And thanks for watching.”

What his brother said at the end
Harrell’s brother, Roy E. Harrell Jr., appeared at the end of the video. He confirmed the death and said he would continue the channel’s legacy. The reporting does not describe any plans for the channel beyond that remark.

Who Harrell was
Harrell was known for firearm review and instructional videos. Yahoo News describes him as a gun safety advocate. That background explains why his audience received the message as a farewell from a familiar presenter, but the story itself is about the video and what it says, not about the firearms he discussed.

- The exact date of death. The reports establish that Harrell had died before the video was published and that he was 58. They do not give the date.
- A link between the upload date and the death date. The upload happened after his death, but the posting date should not be read as the day he died.
- Harrell’s medical course beyond his own description. Coverage relies on the statements in the video.
Read the coverage with the recording date in mind. The message was made almost nine months before it reached viewers, and the reporting cited here dates from September 2024.
