Fox channels did not permanently disappear from YouTube TV. The warning concerned a real carriage dispute in August 2025. YouTube TV set a 5 p.m. Eastern deadline for August 27, 2025, but reached a short-term extension that day and announced a broader renewal with Fox on August 28. As of August 18, 2026, the documented dispute is resolved, although no carriage agreement guarantees that future negotiations will be painless.
What the original warning said
On August 25, 2025, YouTube TV said its agreement with Fox was expiring during renewal negotiations. It warned that Fox channels could become unavailable at 5 p.m. Eastern on August 27, 2025. The announcement specifically mentioned Fox Sports, Fox Business and Fox News, among other affected services, and said recordings from affected channels could also become unavailable. YouTube TV said it might offer a $10 credit if programming remained unavailable for an extended period; that was a proposed contingency, not an automatic payment to every subscriber. The timing was significant: the deadline came just before the college-football and NFL seasons, when a loss of Fox broadcast stations, FS1 or related channels would have affected many sports viewers.
How the dispute ended
August 27: a short-term extension
The immediate blackout was avoided when the companies agreed to a short-term extension on August 27, 2025. That extension prevented the announced deadline from becoming an interruption, but it was not yet the final renewal.

August 28: full portfolio renewal
On August 28, Fox Corporation and YouTube TV announced a renewed distribution agreement covering Fox’s full network portfolio. The announcement listed Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox Weather, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, Fox Deportes, the Fox broadcast network, Big Ten Network and Fox local stations. Neither company’s public announcement establishes who conceded on rates, packaging, authentication, advertising or streaming rights. It is therefore inaccurate to say that Fox “won” or that YouTube TV “caved.”

Which Fox services mattered to viewers?

“Fox” is not one interchangeable channel. A subscriber may receive a local Fox affiliate while another market has a different affiliate arrangement, and a particular sports event can involve separate league, conference, station or regional rights. The renewal announcement covers the portfolio, but it does not make every subscriber’s lineup identical.

What subscribers would have lost in a blackout
- Live channels: Fox-owned news, sports, entertainment and local-broadcast programming would have disappeared from YouTube TV for the duration of an interruption.
- Sports access: Viewers could have lost games on the Fox broadcast network, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, Fox Deportes or other affected services, depending on the event and market.
- Local programming: The effect on a local Fox station could vary by affiliate and distribution arrangement.
- Saved library content: YouTube TV warned that recordings from affected channels could also become unavailable, not merely future live broadcasts.
The documented 2025 threat was not a permanent removal: the extension and renewal avoided the blackout described in the warning.

What each company said
YouTube TV’s position
YouTube TV said Fox was seeking payments “far higher” than those of comparable content partners. It argued that accepting those terms could put additional costs on subscribers and said it wanted an agreement it considered fair without passing those costs through. Those are YouTube TV’s characterizations, not independently established rate comparisons.
Fox’s position
Fox said Google was proposing terms “out of step with the marketplace” and accused Google of exploiting its influence. The Associated Press reported that position during the dispute in its chronology of the negotiations. Public statements do not disclose the final financial terms.

Should you use Fox One or change services?
Fox One
YouTube TV pointed customers to Fox One as a possible fallback. It is a separate Fox subscription, not a replacement for YouTube TV’s entire multichannel bundle, cloud-DVR workflow or local-channel setup. Check the current lineup, device support and price at Fox.com. The Associated Press reported a $19.99 monthly starting price when Fox One launched in August 2025; that historical figure should not be treated as the August 2026 price.
Fox One can suit someone who mainly wants Fox-owned news, sports or entertainment. It is a poor substitute for a household that needs non-Fox networks, one unified bill, or every local affiliate and event available through a distributor.

Before changing services, verify:
- Local Fox availability by ZIP code.
- FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network and Fox Deportes inclusion in the specific plan.
- National versus regional sports rights for the events you actually watch.
- Cloud-DVR capacity, retention rules and simultaneous streams.
- Regular pricing after any introductory offer, plus taxes, sports fees and add-ons.
- Device support and cancellation terms.
Current lineups and prices can change, so use each provider’s official site rather than relying on the historical figures reported during the dispute.
What the episode says about streaming-TV bundles
Streaming does not eliminate traditional carriage negotiations. A distributor such as YouTube TV still pays for the right to carry networks, while a programmer weighs fees, packaging, advertising and digital rights. When talks stall, the result can be a threatened loss of several seemingly unrelated channels at once. The 2025 episode also shows why an extension and a final renewal should not be treated as the same event: the extension prevented an immediate outage, while the August 28 announcement established the broader agreement.
Current status
As of August 18, 2026, the public record supplied for this article documents a resolved 2025 dispute, not a new Fox blackout threat. Fox’s full portfolio was renewed for YouTube TV, with financial terms undisclosed. Subscribers who are deciding whether to stay should confirm the current channel list and price directly with YouTube TV, and anyone considering a switch should verify local and sports coverage in their own market.
