Starting with the 2026 season, MLB.TV is sold and distributed in the U.S. through ESPN’s digital platforms as a separate subscription. If you rely on it to watch out-of-market teams, YouTube TV’s ESPN benefit is not a replacement.
What YouTube TV’s ESPN agreement gives subscribers
After a carriage dispute in October and November 2025, Disney and YouTube TV reached an agreement and Disney channels—including ABC, ESPN and FX—returned to YouTube TV. YouTube’s announcement confirmed the channels’ return, but did not spell out every operational detail of ESPN Unlimited access for every subscriber.

ESPN Unlimited is ESPN’s broad streaming service, not another name for MLB.TV. YouTube’s newer plan announcements also distinguish the traditional YouTube TV base plan from a Sports Plan that includes ESPN networks and ESPN Unlimited. In February 2026, YouTube listed the Sports Plan at $64.99 per month, or $54.99 per month for new users, and described ESPN Unlimited as coming in fall 2026. Those figures and terms apply to that announced plan; check YouTube TV’s current plan and activation terms before changing subscriptions. YouTube’s plan announcement
Do not assume that every existing base-plan subscriber receives ESPN Unlimited automatically or that ESPN networks, ESPN+ and ESPN Unlimited are interchangeable. The available announcements do not establish identical access or activation terms for every YouTube TV customer.

MLB.TV is a separate subscription
YouTube TV’s ESPN access does not automatically include MLB.TV. A YouTube TV customer can still buy MLB.TV separately, but needs that separate subscription to follow the broad slate of out-of-market regular-season games. MLB’s ESPN partner guide describes how to purchase and access the package.
That distinction matters because ESPN Unlimited provides ESPN programming and selected baseball coverage, while MLB.TV is MLB’s out-of-market package. YouTube TV is a live-TV service that may carry national and local channels; it is not a substitute for MLB.TV when the goal is to stream games outside the viewer’s home territory.
Why MLB.TV is now distributed through ESPN
On November 19, 2025, MLB announced three-year media agreements with ESPN, NBCUniversal and Netflix covering the 2026–2028 seasons. Beginning in 2026, ESPN became the U.S. platform for selling and distributing MLB.TV. The agreement also gives ESPN a 30-game national package and more than 150 out-of-market games distributed through the ESPN app. Those rights do not make the MLB.TV subscription part of YouTube TV. MLB’s announcement
MLB remains the league and the owner of the MLB.TV product; ESPN is its U.S. distribution partner under this agreement. MLB.TV subscribers can link their MLB and ESPN accounts and watch in either the MLB or ESPN app, according to MLB’s account and access instructions.

What MLB.TV includes—and what it costs
MLB.TV is designed for games outside the subscriber’s local market. MLB lists live out-of-market regular-season games, home and away feeds, on-demand and archived games, MLB Big Inning, and MLB Network access in the 2026 offering. Associated MLB access can also include live Minor League Baseball games and live audio, depending on the package and platform. Check the package details at purchase for the exact inclusions. ESPN’s MLB.TV purchase page
Official pages list a $29.99 monthly option and seasonal prices that have varied with promotions and eligibility. MLB’s partner page has listed $149.99 as the regular seasonal price and a $134.99 discount for existing ESPN Unlimited subscribers; ESPN’s page has displayed other promotional figures, including $139.99, $124.99 and limited-time lower offers. Because those displays conflict and offers can change, use the price and renewal terms shown at checkout rather than treating any promotion as a universal rate. MLB’s subscription information · ESPN’s checkout page
New MLB.TV purchasers may be offered a one-month ESPN Unlimited trial. ESPN Unlimited can then renew separately at $29.99 per month unless canceled. MLB says subscribers can cancel ESPN Unlimited and keep MLB.TV, so check both subscriptions and their renewal dates instead of assuming one cancellation ends the other. MLB.TV seasonal subscriptions renew around March 1 at the then-current price, according to MLB’s subscription terms.
Blackouts and national exclusives still limit coverage
“Out of market” does not mean every game is available everywhere. MLB.TV remains subject to local blackouts: a viewer who lives in a team’s home territory may be unable to watch that team live through the package. It is primarily an out-of-market solution, not a universal way around local broadcast restrictions.

Nationally exclusive games create a separate limitation. Some games assigned to a national media partner may not be available on MLB.TV, even for out-of-market subscribers. The 2026 schedule is spread across services and channels, including ESPN, NBC/Peacock, Netflix and other rights holders; no single subscription should be assumed to carry every game. See MLB’s 2026 MLB.TV guidance and its guide to watching MLB games.

Casual or national-game viewer
YouTube TV may be enough if you mainly watch nationally televised games, occasional ESPN coverage, or a local team carried by channels available in your package. Check the specific channel and schedule rather than assuming every game appears on ESPN Unlimited.
Out-of-market fan
If you follow a team outside your home market or want a broad selection of non-national regular-season games, plan on buying MLB.TV separately in addition to whichever TV service gives you the national channels you want. MLB.TV’s blackouts and national exclusives still apply.
Local-team die-hard
First check whether your team’s games are blacked out where you live, whether its local network is included in YouTube TV, and whether a team-specific streaming package is available in your market. MLB says some local-team streaming packages can be paired with MLB.TV, but club availability and prices vary. Start with MLB’s package selector.
Quick Recap
Check the subscriptions before you cancel
- Confirm your YouTube TV plan. Check whether you have the base plan or Sports Plan and whether ESPN Unlimited is included and activated for your account.
- Decide which games you need. National ESPN coverage, local games and out-of-market MLB.TV games are different buckets.
- Check blackout and national-rights limits. Use MLB’s viewing guide and package details for your team and market.
- Review each renewal separately. MLB.TV and ESPN Unlimited may have different billing dates; a trial can roll into a paid monthly ESPN Unlimited subscription.
- Link accounts if using both apps. Follow MLB’s instructions to link your MLB account with your ESPN/MyDisney account so the MLB.TV subscription works in the MLB app as well.
