The outage affected sports, local broadcast television, news, children’s programming, entertainment, and regional college-sports networks. It also affected some related YouTube TV add-ons, including 4K Plus and Spanish Plus.
This is the complete list of services identified during the blackout, why the dispute mattered, what the November agreement changed, how YouTube TV’s 2026 genre plans fit into the story, and what affected subscribers should know about a separate proposed settlement.
What happened between YouTube TV and Disney?
YouTube TV and Disney failed to renew their carriage agreement before it expired on October 30, 2025. A carriage agreement is the contract that allows a live-TV provider to distribute a programmer’s channels to subscribers.
YouTube characterized the dispute as a disagreement over expensive economic terms. Google said Disney’s demands could eventually force higher subscription prices and reduce the flexibility of YouTube TV’s packages. Disney presented the dispute differently, saying Google was refusing to pay fair rates for ESPN, ABC, and its other networks.

Neither company announced a permanent withdrawal. The channels were suspended while negotiations continued. That distinction matters because headlines describing Disney as having permanently pulled its channels are now inaccurate.
The suspension took effect at the end of October 30. During the disruption, YouTube said it would provide a $20 credit if Disney programming remained unavailable for an extended period. That was a blackout-era offer, not a standing discount that subscribers should assume is still available.
Every channel and feed that disappeared
Contemporary channel lists identified 21 services and feeds when the Spanish-plan channels are counted. Reports sometimes described the outage as affecting “more than 20 channels” because related feeds and regional services were grouped differently. The exact lineup could also vary by plan and market.

- National Geographic, commonly listed as Nat Geo

ABC requires a specific qualification. The national ABC network was part of the dispute, but the availability of a local ABC affiliate has always depended on the subscriber’s market and the station’s carriage arrangements. A subscriber should check availability by ZIP code rather than assume that every local ABC station is available everywhere.

What viewers actually lost during the blackout
Sports subscribers lost the largest block of high-demand programming
The outage removed ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ACC Network, and SEC Network. That meant losing much of the live coverage that makes a traditional cable replacement valuable: national games and studio programming on ESPN, conference coverage on ACC Network and SEC Network, college-sports programming on ESPNU, and Spanish-language sports on ESPN Deportes.
The practical effect depended on the sports calendar and the viewer’s plan. A household that mainly watched scripted entertainment could have continued using most of its other channels. A household relying on YouTube TV for college football, conference sports, or ESPN’s daily programming lost access to a central part of its subscription.
Broadcast and news viewers lost ABC services
ABC and ABC News Live were also listed among the affected services. Losing ABC could affect local news, network news, entertainment shows, specials, and live events carried by a local affiliate. Again, local availability was market-specific, so the impact was not identical for every subscriber.

Family households lost Disney’s children’s networks
Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD disappeared from the affected lineup. On the Spanish Plan, Baby TV Español was also listed as unavailable. These losses were especially noticeable in homes using YouTube TV as a replacement for a traditional family cable package.
Entertainment, documentary, and lifestyle viewers lost several networks
Freeform, FX, FXX, FXM, Localish, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, and Nat Geo Mundo were also affected. The result was broader than an ESPN dispute: viewers lost scripted series, films, factual programming, wildlife and science content, local-interest programming, and Spanish-language National Geographic content.
Associated Press reporting also identified effects on some related YouTube TV products, including the 4K Plus and Spanish Plus add-ons. The add-on impact did not mean that every feature of those products worked in exactly the same way for every subscriber; it meant the Disney channels tied to those packages were unavailable during the suspension.
Timeline of the Disney–YouTube TV dispute
- Before October 30, 2025: YouTube TV and Disney negotiated a renewal of their distribution agreement but did not reach a deal before expiration.
- October 30, 2025: The agreement expired, and Disney-owned services were removed from YouTube TV at the end of the day.
- During the blackout: YouTube described the economic disagreement and said subscribers could receive a $20 credit if the outage continued for an extended period.
- November 14, 2025: Disney and YouTube announced a multi-year distribution agreement. Restoration began that day.
- February 2026: YouTube TV announced more than 10 lower-priced genre plans, changing how some subscribers could think about sports, entertainment, and family-channel costs.
- September 8, 2026: The published deadline to submit or postmark a claim in the separate proposed Disney subscriber settlement.
- January 14, 2027: The scheduled final-approval hearing for that settlement.
How the channels came back
On November 14, Disney announced a multi-year distribution agreement covering its full linear portfolio on YouTube TV. Disney said the agreement restored all ESPN networks, ABC, Disney-branded channels, Freeform, FX Networks, and National Geographic channels.
YouTube’s update said ABC, ESPN, and FX would return over the course of November 14. It also said recordings that had previously been stored in subscribers’ libraries would return. The precise timing of restoration could vary during the day, so a channel not appearing immediately did not necessarily mean the new agreement had failed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe agreement also included a significant ESPN-related provision. Disney said ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer Unlimited Plan would be made available to YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost, with selected live and on-demand ESPN Unlimited programming integrated inside YouTube TV. The wording is important: it described selected programming and an arrangement tied to the new service, not an assertion that every ESPN Unlimited feature was already available in the YouTube TV app.
Disney also said the agreement contemplated genre-specific packages and the ability to include a Disney+, Hulu bundle in selected YouTube TV offerings. Those provisions should not be read as a promise that every subscriber automatically receives every Disney streaming service or that every proposed package is available in every market.

What YouTube TV changed in 2026
In February 2026, YouTube TV announced more than 10 lower-priced genre plans. The published structure included the following examples:
| Published plan | Price listed in the February 2026 announcement | What the announcement said |
|---|---|---|
| Main YouTube TV plan | $82.99 per month | More than 100 networks |
| Sports Plan | $64.99 per month | Included ESPN networks; ESPN Unlimited was described as coming in fall 2026 |
| News + Entertainment + Family Plan | $69.99 per month | Included family-oriented services such as Disney Channel and National Geographic |
These figures describe the plan structure published in February 2026, not a guarantee that pricing or lineups will remain unchanged. YouTube TV’s channel availability can vary by plan, ZIP code, local market, and later product changes. Check the provider’s current plan page before changing subscriptions.
The ESPN Unlimited timing also needs careful treatment. Disney’s November agreement described selected live and on-demand ESPN Unlimited programming inside YouTube TV, while YouTube’s February plan announcement described ESPN Unlimited as coming in fall 2026. Unless YouTube and ESPN have since confirmed a complete launch and feature list, it is safer to treat full integration as a staged product change rather than claim that every ESPN Unlimited function is already included.
The new genre plans may give subscribers more choice, but they do not erase the underlying carriage issue. A cheaper plan with fewer channels is not automatically equivalent to the old main plan, and a sports-focused plan may not include every entertainment or family network a household used before.
What should subscribers do if Disney channels are missing now?
Because the 2025 blackout ended in November, a Disney channel missing in August 2026 should not automatically be blamed on that dispute. Use this quick check:
- Confirm the plan. YouTube TV’s 2026 genre plans have different channel mixes. Verify that the service is included in the plan attached to the account.
- Check the ZIP-code lineup. This is particularly important for ABC, because local affiliate availability varies by market.
- Refresh the guide and app. If multiple Disney-owned channels are absent even though the plan includes them, sign out and back in, update the app, and check the provider’s service-status information.
- Separate a rights problem from a device problem. If the same channel is missing across devices, the issue is more likely account, plan, market, or provider availability. Replacing a streaming device cannot restore a channel that a provider has not licensed.
Legitimate alternatives to YouTube TV during a blackout
Viewers had several legal alternatives in late 2025, but none should be described as a guaranteed one-for-one replacement without checking the current lineup. Live-TV rights, prices, regional stations, and bundle terms change.

Hulu + Live TV and Disney bundles
A Hulu + Live TV alternative was one of the most direct options for viewers seeking a combination of Disney programming, ABC access, and sports-related coverage. Disney-controlled bundles could also provide Disney+ or Hulu on-demand content. However, package contents and promotional pricing change, and a streaming bundle is not automatically identical to a YouTube TV plan. Verify ESPN networks, the local ABC affiliate, DVR terms, and the exact Disney services included before switching.

Fubo
Fubo was identified in blackout-era reporting as a like-for-like live-TV alternative, particularly for sports-focused households. Its current Disney-related lineup and pricing should be checked before publication or purchase. A service may carry major sports networks without carrying every Disney entertainment, children’s, news, or National Geographic feed listed above.
Direct Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN subscriptions
Direct subscriptions can replace selected on-demand programs or provide access to programming distributed through Disney’s own streaming services. They are not automatically substitutes for every linear channel. A Disney+ subscription does not by itself recreate ESPN, FX, a local ABC affiliate, or the complete live-TV guide. ESPN’s direct-to-consumer products likewise require a careful check of the specific games, networks, live channels, and on-demand features included.
Over-the-air antenna
An indoor HDTV antenna can help a household receive a local ABC affiliate when that station broadcasts over the air and the home has adequate signal conditions. It cannot replace ESPN, ACC Network, SEC Network, FX, Disney Channel, National Geographic, or the other cable and sports networks involved in the blackout. An antenna is therefore a limited workaround for local broadcast television, not a full YouTube TV replacement.
Separate $50 million Disney subscriber settlement
The blackout and the settlement are related from a consumer-interest perspective but are not the same event. In Biddle v. The Walt Disney Company, Disney has agreed to a preliminary $50 million partial settlement involving eligible YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers. Disney denies wrongdoing, and the court has not finally decided liability.
The official settlement materials describe the YouTube TV settlement class as people who purchased a YouTube TV subscription from April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2026. Meeting that date range alone does not guarantee eligibility or payment; subscribers must review the official notice and settlement terms.
Important settlement dates
- Claim deadline: Submit a claim online or ensure it is postmarked by September 8, 2026.
- Final-approval hearing: Scheduled for January 14, 2027.
- Potential payments: If the settlement receives final approval and appeals are resolved, payments are expected to be distributed pro rata, based primarily on qualifying subscription duration and the number of valid claims.
Use the official settlement website—not an unsolicited third-party form—to read the notice and submit a claim. The settlement is preliminary, so no payment is guaranteed at this stage.
The proposed settlement also includes non-monetary relief related to greater flexibility for packages that exclude ESPN or contain fewer Disney-owned channels. That is a settlement term or proposal, not proof that a particular reduced-Disney package is already available to every YouTube TV customer.

Why this blackout mattered
Most carriage disputes affect viewers in recognizable but limited ways: one sports network disappears, a local station goes dark, or a handful of entertainment channels are temporarily unavailable. This dispute reached across nearly every major category of live television.

One household could lose ESPN and SEC Network for sports, ABC for local broadcast programming, Disney Channel for children, FX for scripted entertainment, and National Geographic for factual programming—all from the same contract dispute. That breadth explains why the event generated more than a routine channel-removal notice and why subscribers looked for a replacement service immediately.
It also illustrates the trade-off behind live-TV streaming. Providers advertise flexibility and lower commitment than traditional cable, but they still depend on negotiated rights. When a programmer and distributor disagree, subscribers can lose access quickly regardless of which app or device they use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Disney channels still missing from YouTube TV?
No. Disney and YouTube announced a multi-year agreement on November 14, 2025, and Disney’s channels—including ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX, and National Geographic—were restored. Current availability can still vary by YouTube TV plan and local market.
How many channels were removed during the 2025 YouTube TV blackout?
The complete contemporary list contains 21 channels and feeds when the three Spanish Plan services—ESPN Deportes, Baby TV Español, and Nat Geo Mundo—are included. Some reports used the broader wording “more than 20 channels” because they grouped feeds differently.
Can an antenna replace the Disney channels that disappeared?
Only partly. An antenna may receive a local ABC affiliate over the air if the station and signal conditions support it. It cannot replace ESPN, FX, Disney Channel, ACC Network, SEC Network, National Geographic, or other cable networks.
Who may qualify for the proposed Disney streaming settlement?
The official settlement materials describe a YouTube TV class covering people who purchased a YouTube TV subscription from April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2026. The settlement remains preliminary, and potential claimants should review the official notice. The stated claim deadline is September 8, 2026, and final approval is scheduled for January 14, 2027.
The Bottom Line
The YouTube TV–Disney blackout was real, but it was temporary. Twenty-one listed channels and feeds disappeared after the October 30, 2025 agreement expiration, then returned under a multi-year deal announced November 14. In 2026, the more relevant questions are which YouTube TV plan includes the channels you need, whether your local ABC affiliate is available, how ESPN Unlimited integration has progressed, and whether you qualify for the separate proposed settlement before its September 8, 2026 claim deadline.
