The next major YouTube Partner Program terms update is announced for February 1, 2027. If you earn through affected YPP features, YouTube says you should review and accept the applicable updated module or modules in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027. Missing that deadline pauses earnings from the associated features from February 1, but YouTube says it does not by itself remove your channel from YPP; accepting later restores access to those features.
These are not the same as a change to YouTube’s general Terms of Service. General service terms, feature-specific monetization contracts, and other creator policies are separate layers. The announced 2027 changes are future rules as of October 3, 2026, so confirm what applies to your account in Studio.
What creators need to do before February 1, 2027
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and look for YouTube’s terms notification in the dashboard or the Earn tab.
- Review the applicable module or modules. YouTube identifies the Watch Page Monetization Module, Shorts Monetization Module, and, where applicable, Commerce Product Module.
- Accept the modules you want to use by January 31, 2027. You may accept some or all; check the terms presented for your own account rather than assuming every channel has the same modules.
- To look up previously accepted online agreements, open YouTube Studio → Settings → Agreements.
For owned-and-operated channels in a multi-channel network (MCN), YouTube says the managing MCN must accept the updated terms by the deadline. Affiliate channels must accept their applicable modules themselves.
If you miss the deadline
YouTube says earnings from the features associated with unaccepted modules stop on February 1. Accepting later restores access to those features. The missed acceptance, by itself, does not change the channel’s YPP status.

Which rules are changing, and who they affect
YouTube’s announced update covers monetization modules and program rules. Its major thresholds do different jobs: one governs entry into YPP for new applicants, another governs monthly Shorts Creator Pool earnings, and a third defines activity for existing YPP channels. They should not be treated as one universal monetization requirement.

Premium Lite
YouTube says it plans to expand Premium Lite to all countries where Premium is available. Its announcement describes a pool representing 60% of net subscription revenue for Premium Lite and 30% for Premium views. These are pool percentages, not a promise that an individual creator will receive that share of a subscriber’s payment. YouTube says Premium Lite earnings will appear within standard YouTube Premium metrics in Analytics.

Other Shorts opportunities
The update describes possible YouTube Shopping bonuses, production credits for brand deals, and cultural-trend activations. It also says eligible creators may receive a direct 45% share from ad placements when an advertiser targets a group of five or fewer channels, in addition to standard Shorts Creator Pool earnings. These are program descriptions, not guaranteed eligibility or offers for every creator.
Creators on older fan-funding terms
If you enabled features such as memberships or Super Chat before 2023, you may still be on the Commerce Product Addendum. YouTube says affected creators must accept the current Commerce Product Module by January 31, 2027 to keep earning from the associated features after February 1. YouTube says this migration does not change eligibility thresholds, feature operation, or revenue share.

What is—and is not—a general Terms of Service change
YouTube’s earlier general Terms update addressed facial-recognition restrictions, YouTube’s right to serve ads in additional areas such as videos, the homepage masthead, and search results, and treatment of YouTube payments as royalties for U.S. tax purposes, with withholding as required by law. YouTube’s FAQ said those terms took effect in the United States in November 2020 and outside the United States on June 1, 2021. That is historical context, not the announced 2027 YPP module update.
YouTube explained the purpose of its periodic revisions this way: “At YouTube, we periodically update our Terms of Service to make sure they are clear, easy to understand and meet the needs of our partners, advertisers and viewers.”

Other creator policies still apply
Accepting a monetization module does not replace the other rules that govern a channel. YouTube identifies its Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, Platform Policies, and, where relevant, feature-specific requirements for monetization, live streaming, or Shopping. Paid promotions are also subject to advertiser policies. Monetization rules separately include AdSense Program Policies, YouTube monetization policies, and advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
Originality and “inauthentic content”
On July 10, 2025, TeamYouTube said it was renaming the “repetitious content” monetization policy to “inauthentic content” to clarify that mass-produced or repetitive material was covered. TeamYouTube described this as a clarification of the existing requirement for original and authentic YPP content, regardless of how the content was made. It was a monetization-policy clarification, not a change to the general Terms of Service.

AI disclosure
A May 27, 2026 TeamYouTube post described an updated creator-led disclosure model for content made with or meaningfully altered using AI, and said creators who consistently fail to disclose may face penalties. An August 3, 2026 update described how to find automatically labeled videos in Studio and correct some labels; some automatic labels cannot be removed. This is disclosure-policy and tooling guidance, not an established general Terms revision.

If you received a separate-contract transition notice
A transition notice is account-specific; it does not apply to every creator. YouTube says some partners may be moved from a separate contract to its general Terms of Service after low activity over the preceding year or infrequent use of Content Manager tools.
For accounts covered by such a notice, YouTube says the transition happens automatically. Existing channels and videos remain on YouTube, but Content Manager access and some Analytics or Content Manager reports may be lost. Download reports you want to retain before the transition. Eligible partners can apply to YPP after the transition if YPP is available in their country.
Keeping a YouTube stream running is separate from accepting terms
